Why Study the Koine Greek Language with Peter Watts
All the documents of Christianity - such as those that are found in the collection known as 'the New Testament' - were written in the common Koine Greek language of the Mediterranean world. In this video, Dr Peter Watts argues that learning to read that language, as part of a study of theology or of the Bible, is an important way not only to get a deeper appreciation of those texts but of gaining access to the mental worlds of the writers of those early texts which are still valued by Christians today.

Lesson 24 - John 1:7 and the Subjunctive Mood in Koine Greek
A short, user-friendly video teaching the names of the Greek letters (Koine and Modern) and their sounds (using the Restored Koine pronunication). The Restored Koine pronunciation is, for all intensive purposes, simply the Koine pronunciation that was used during the era of the New Testament. Research has allowed us to recover and restore the proper pronunciation used in antiquity. This pronunciation is a little different than the pronunciation used in Modern Greek. It is also very different than the Erasmian pronunciation, which was developed by Erasmus in the late 1400s- mid 1500s.

The Gospel of John (Τὸ κατὰ Ἰωάννην εὐαγγέλιον) is most pertinent to the interests of The Modern Hermeticist in so far as it is far more philosophically and mystically-oriented than the other ‘synoptic’ canonical evangels. In regards to its content and style, it is the most highly Platonised (and arguably the most ‘Gnostic’) of the gospels, which means it is also the least Jewish (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_John#Gnostic_elements).

Here is a full reading of the Gospel of John in Ancient Greek (with Koiné Pronunciation). This recording works through the text at a relatively slow pace, and is a great study aid for seminary students or simply for those who have a working knowledge of Koiné and wish to listen to while commuting.
Elsewhere on YouTube there already exists another recording of this text, but I sincerely believe this recording is far more accessible to non-Greeks, as its reader is working with something more akin to a Koiné pronunciation than a Modern Greek one.

A demon, daemon (from Koine Greek δαιμόνιον daimonion), or fiend is a supernatural, often malevolent being prevalent in religion, occultism, literature, fiction, mythology and folklore. The original Greek word daimon does not carry the negative connotation initially understood by implementation of the Koine δαιμόνιον (daimonion), and later ascribed to any cognate words sharing the root.
In Ancient Near Eastern religions as well as in the Abrahamic traditions, including ancient and medieval Christian demonology, a demon is considered an unclean spirit, a fallen angel, or a spirit of unknown type which may cause demonic possession, calling for

Ancient Greeks | Spartan Invasion | Ancient Discoveries
Ancient Greek is the form of Greek used during the periods of time spanning around the ninth – sixth centuries BC (known as Archaic), around the fifth – fourth centuries BC (Classical), and around the 3rd century BC – sixth century AD (Hellenistic) in ancient Greece and the ancient world. It was antedated in the second millennium BC by Mycenaean Greek. The language of the Hellenistic phase is known as Koine (common) or Biblical Greek, while the language from the late period onward features no considerable differences from Medieval Greek. Koine is regarded as a separate historical stage of its own, although in its earlier form, it closely resembled the Classical. Prior to the Koine period, Greek of the classic and earlier periods included several regional dialects.
Ancient Greek was the language of Homer and of classical Athenian historians, playwrights, and philosophers. It has contributed many words to English vocabulary and has been a standard subject of study in educational institutions of the West since the Renaissance. This article primarily contains information about the Epic and Classical phases of the language.

Hale's "Let's Study Greek" Lesson 5, Doctor Lazarus -- In Living Koine Greek
A demon, daemon (from Koine Greek δαιμόνιον daimonion), or fiend is a supernatural, often malevolent being prevalent in religion, occultism, literature, fiction, mythology and folklore. The original Greek word daimon does not carry the negative connotation initially understood by implementation of the Koine δαιμόνιον (daimonion), and later ascribed to any cognate words sharing the root.
In Ancient Near Eastern religions as well as in the Abrahamic traditions, including ancient and medieval Christian demonology, a demon is considered an unclean spirit, a fallen angel, or a spirit of unknown type which may cause demonic possession, calling for an exorcism. In Western occultism and Renaissance magic, which grew out of an amalgamation of Greco-Roman magic, Jewish Aggadah and Christian demonology, a demon is believed to be a spiritual entity that may be conjured and controlled.

Why Study the Koine Greek Language with Peter Watts
Why Study the Koine Greek Language with Peter Watts
All the documents of Christianity - such as those that are found in the collection known as 'the New Testament' - were written in the common Koine Greek language of the Mediterranean world. In this video, Dr Peter Watts argues that learning to read that language, as part of a study of theology or of the Bible, is an important way not only to get a deeper appreciation of those texts but of gaining access to the mental worlds of the writers of those early texts which are still valued by Christians today.

Koine Greek Alphabet - New Testament Greek
A short, user-friendly video teaching the names of the Greek letters (Koine and Modern) and their sounds (using the Restored Koine pronunication). The Restored Koine pronunciation is, for all intensive purposes, simply the Koine pronunciation that was used during the era of the New Testament. Research has allowed us to recover and restore the proper pronunciation used in antiquity. This pronunciation is a little different than the pronunciation used in Modern Greek. It is also very different than the Erasmian pronunciation, which was developed by Erasmus in the late 1400s- mid 1500s.

The Greek Alphabet: Pronunciation and a Brief History, Part 1
In part one of this video, I go through the first thirteen letters of the Greek alphabet. Along the way I share three historical ways to pronounce each letter, and compare each letter to the Phoenician letters they likely came from. Before we start going through the alphabet, I give a simple introduction to the history of the Greek language in order to explain how the Modern Greek alphabet came about. I know that many Greeks don't like hearing us foreigners "mispronounce" their words and letters, so besides giving the Classical and (historical) Koine Greek pronunciation for each letter, I've also given the Modern Greek pronunciation.
I really hope you enjoy it, Greek or ξένος.

The Greek Alphabet: Pronunciation and a Brief History, Part 2
In part two of this video, I go through the last eleven letters of the Greek alphabet (and five extra letters/characters). As we go, I share three historical ways to pronounce each letter, and compare each letter to the Phoenician letters they likely came from.
Note: The Koine Greek pronunciation used in this video is based off of Randall Buth's pronunciation suggestions (you can find out more about Koine pronunciation and his suggestions here: http://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/koine-greek-pronunciation/). Because there were differences of pronunciation when Koine was being spoken, think of it as a generalized Koine.

This in-depth yet student-friendly introduction to Koine Greek provides a full grounding in Greek grammar, while starting to build skill in the use of exegetical tools. The approach, informed by twenty-five years of classroom teaching, emphasizes reading Greek for comprehension as opposed to merely translating it. The workbook is integrated into the textbook, with exercises appearing within each chapter rather than pushed to the end or located in a separate book. This enables students to practice concepts as they encounter them in the chapter--ideal for distance learning or studying beyond the traditional classroom. The book covers not only New Testament Greek but also the wider range of Bible-related Greek (LXX and other Koine texts). It introduces students to reference tools for biblical Greek, includes tips on learning, and is supplemented by robust web-based resources through Baker Academic's Textbook eSources. Resources for students include flash cards and audio files. Resources for professors include a test bank and an instructor's manual.
