Genotypic Ratios and Phenotypic Ratios for Punnett Squares
In this video I will discuss setting up the ratios and percents of a punnett square.
Once you have set up the Punnett square you can begin writing out the genotype ratios and the phenotype ratios
When writing the ratios use, homozygous dominant heterozygous, homozygous recessive.
You can write the genotype ratios and the phenotype ratios
Remember when calculating percents each box equals 25%
Example 1
Tall is dominant to short
Both parents are heterozygous
We will first set up the ratios
We will set them up

1:2:1
The percents will be
25:50:25
Phenotype will be
3:1 remember a capital letter will be dominant and you only get a recessive trait when have two lower case letters

Punnett Squares - Basic Introduction
This biology video tutorial provides a basic introduction into punnett squares. It explains how to do a monohybrid cross and a dihybrid cross. It discusses the difference between the dominant allele and the recessive allele. It also covers terms such homozygous dominant, heterozygous, and homozygous recessive. It contains plenty of examples and practice problems that explains how to calculate the probability of an offspring with certain characteristics such as eye color. When you have a trait, that is, a pair of alleles, such as Bb or bb. We can refer to them in two different ways.
The first is the Genotype, which refers to the exact pairing of alleles. For example, if we are dealing with eye color and there are two alleles, “B” for blue eyes and “b” for green eyes, then there are three possible genotypes, BB, Bb, or bb, these are the genotypes. The genotype isn’t concerned with the expression of the trait, only the pairing of the alleles.
The other way to refer to a trait is by the Phenotype, which is its expression. Using our previous example, there are only two phenotypes, blue eyes or green eyes. The phenotype isn’t concerned with the pairing of the alleles, the genotypes BB and Bb both give the same phenotype, blue eyes.
So to recap the genotype refers to the pair of alleles for a trait, in this case, the specific letters, and the phenotype refers to the expression of the trait, how it looks or functions.

International development agencies believe that breeding new crops is important for ensuring food security by developing new varieties that are higher-yielding, resistant to pests and diseases, drought-resistant or regionally adapted to different environments and growing conditions.
