Phaseolus vulgaris, the common bean (also known as the string bean, field bean, flageolet bean, French bean, garden bean, green bean, haricot bean, pop bean, or snap bean), is a herbaceous annual plant grown worldwide for its edible dry seed (known as just "beans") or unripe fruit (green beans). Its leaf is also occasionally used as a vegetable and the straw as fodder. Its botanical classification, along with other Phaseolus species, is as a member of the legume family Fabaceae, most of whose members acquire the nitrogen they require through an association with rhizobia, a species of nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
The common bean is a highly variable species that has a long history of cultivation. All wild members of the species have a climbing habit, but many cultivars are classified as "bush beans" or "pole beans", depending on their style of growth. These include the kidney bean, the navy bean, the pinto bean, and the wax bean. The other major types of commercially grown bean are the runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus) and the broad bean (Vicia faba).

This film under the e- warehouse project has incorporated various simple steps that farmers can follow to enable them benefit from their harvest. This is only achievable when they keenly follow the advice narrated to them. The new harvesting steps to follow so as to get quality beans and maize have been formulated so as to improve and increase the sale of these crops in their respective areas.
Planting dwarf and climbing beans: In warmer climates beans can be sown continuously right through to the beginning of February in the Southern Hemisphere and August in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a good idea not to leave a bed empty for too long in the summertime as the soil can become compacted and baked. Any rain we get has difficulty being absorbed and with the lack of oxygen and water, fungi and bacteria struggle to survive. Beans don’t require a lot of nutrients in the soil so are a good crop to follow one that’s just finished. And all members of the legume family are nitrogen-fixing which benefits the soil. Rake your garden bed into one or two mounded rows. Beans like good drainage which the mounds provide. They also like friable soil. If you don’t have any support structures, pl...

A nice kitchen work: cutting the common beans in a special mill. This mill is in use in my family for about 60 years. Cook the beans appr. 15 minutes. Served with bacon and potatoes. Are we measuring what we think we are measuring? Results of two pilot studies using DNA fingerprinting for varietal identification Dr Mywish K Maredia , Professor, Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics Michigan State University USA Varietal adoption based on household surveys has mostly relied on farmers’ response to varietal identification. This method can give biased estimates if farmers are unable to identify improved varieties as a group or by name, or give names that do not match with the improved variety list. In this presentation, the author will report the results of two pilot studies conducted in Ghana (for cassava) and Zambia (for common beans).

A couple of things: 1. Please forgive the tardiness of this video. As you may know, I am in the middle of a move and it's throwing my schedule a little out of whack. My apologies! 2. I apologize for this and sincerely hope you don't find it disruptive to your tingles! Well, you voted for it so here it is: Jellies!! Now let's go back to the 80's, when Jellies first hit the map!
