The Round Tower
King Frederik II and Tycho Brahe
King Frederik II (1534-1588 -- ruled Denmark and Norway 1559 - 1588) was the first Danish King, who became interested in astronomy due to the scientific work of Tycho Brahe (1546-1601) - a famous Danish nobleman and astronomer, who developed the "Tychonian" system - which was a complicated astrological model of the solar system. King Frederik II was very impressed with the many important observations and results conducted by Tycho Brahe - that he granted the funding to establish two observatories on the island of Hven - which was situated in the Sound between Sweden and Denmark. The new observatories was built around 1576-1580 and named Uraniborg and Stjerneborg - and the first of its type in Denmark. The new astrological research institute was equipped with a laboratory for astrological experiments and many expensive astronomical instruments for precise measurements of the universal system.
Kong Christian 4. opførte det højst originale bygningskompleks bestående af Trinitatis Kirke og Rundetårn. Byggeriet af tårnet blev påbegyndt i 1637, og i 1642 stod det færdigt, mens kirken først byggedes færdig i 1656
I århundredernes løb er der sket ændringer i bygningernes brug. Kirken blev sognekirke (og den husede i en årrække Vor Frue menighed, som blev hjemløs efter ødelæggelsen i 1807). I 1861 flyttedes bibliotek og observatorium til nye, mere tidssvarende bygninger på arealet på Øster Vold.
Rundetårn har (bortset fra allerøverst) ikke trapper, men en bred, spiralformet gang belagt med mursten på højkant, der fører helt op til en udsigtsplatform. Konstruktionen er formentlig valgt for at en hest med vogn kan køre op til biblioteket og næsten op til observatoriet og dermed lette transporten af både de mange bøger og de tunge astronomiske instrumenter. Tsar Peter den store af Rusland og hans hustru benyttede sig af muligheden for at komme op på denne alternative vis under deres besøg hos Frederik 4. i 1716, da de to fyrster aftalte at gøre landgang i Skåne ved hjælp af 20.000 russiske soldater, der gik i land nord for København. Felttoget blev ikke til noget, men tsaren fik redet til tops i Rundetårn på sin ganger, mens tsarinaen kom bagefter i karet. [3] En senere myte vil vide at tårnet blev bygget med trapper og først ombygget ved tsarens besøg. Det har dog intet på sig, tårnet er bygget med spiralgangen. Rundt om udsigtsplatformen på toppen står et smedejernsgitter fra 1643 lavet af Christian d. 4.s hofsmed Caspar Fincke. Det er i nyere tid blevet suppleret af et indvendigt ca. to meter højt gitter til at forhindre at folk falder eller kaster sig ud.
Fra begyndelsen var det astronomiske observatorium en vigtig del af tårnets funktion. Så berømte videnskabsmænd som Ole Rømer og Horrebow har arbejdet i observatoriet. Den forskningsmæssige brug af stedet er opgivet, men siden 1929 har der været folkeobservatorium under kuplen på tårnets top.
Tårnet er udelukkende bygget til astronomiske observatorium og fungerer ikke som "kirketårn" idet klokkerne hænger i en tagrytter i kirkens modsatte ende.

We are at The Round Tower (Rundetårn) located on the Købmagergade walking street in the Old Town part of Copenhagen in Denmark. Rundetårn (or The Round Tower as it is called in English) is one of Copenhagen´s top tourist attractions and one of the best places to get a breathtaking 360 degree view of the City of Copenhagen (one of Copenhagen´s best, if not the best viewpoint of the city). If you continue walking down Købmagergade you will eventually reach Copenhagen´s most famous walking Street , Strøget (Stroget).

Spiral Walk
The Spiral walk leading to the top of the Round Tower is a unique piece of European architecture. This 209 meter long spiral walk winds 7 1/2 times around Rundtårns hollow core right up to the final stone stairs that lead the visitor ono the 360 degree viewing platform. This spiral walk is the buildings only connection between the tower and the library room (exhibition hall nowadays) ringer ceiling, tower and church.
Library Room
About halfway up the tower you will arrive at the Library room. The Library room is a huge 900 square meter hall which nowadays is used for exhibitions and other cultural events throughout the year. This is also where Rundetårn´s shop and café are located. Your admission ticket to the Round Tower also gives you (the visitor) access to the exhibition hall.
Bell Loft
The Ringer Ceiling or Bell Loft is located toward the top of The Round Tower.
The impressive original timber structure is still intact and visible on Ringer Ceiling of the Library Hall, where among other things you can see the big clock from 1731, and other things from the tower and church history.
The View
Rundetårn (The Round Tower) provides a spectacular 360 degree view of the City of Copenhagen. The viewing platform of the tower lies 34.8 meters above street level and from there
you can among other things look out over the old Latin Quarter and spot the city's most famous buildings.
Observatory
The Observatory which lies at the top of Rundetårn (The Round Tower) is Europe´s oldest functioning observatory. It was used by the University of Copenhagen until 1861, but today anyone can visit the observatory and study the stars in the sky and planets through the telescope.

Many national observatories were therefore established, the first in 1632 at Leiden in the Dutch Republic. Only five years later the Round Tower Observatory, first referred to as STELLÆBURGI REGII HAUNIENSIS, would follow.

Kong Christian 4. opførte det højst originale bygningskompleks bestående af Trinitatis Kirke og Rundetårn. Byggeriet af tårnet blev påbegyndt i 1637, og i 1642 stod det færdigt, mens kirken først byggedes færdig i 1656 I århundredernes løb er der sket ændringer i bygningernes brug. Kirken blev sognekirke (og den husede i en årrække Vor Frue menighed, som blev hjemløs efter ødelæggelsen i 1807). I 1861 flyttedes bibliotek og observatorium til nye, mere tidssvarende bygninger på arealet på Øster Vold. Rundetårn har (bortset fra allerøverst) ikke trapper, men en bred, spiralformet gang belagt med mursten på højkant, der fører helt op til en udsigtsplatform. It is most noted for its equestrian staircase, a 7.5-turn helical corridor leading to the top, and for the expansive views it affords over Copenhagen.
The tower is part of the Trinitatis Complex which also provided the scholars of the time with a university chapel, the Trinitatis Church, and an academic library which was the first purpose-built facilities of the Copenhagen University Library which had been founded in 1482.
Spiral Walk
The Spiral walk leading to the top of the Round Tower is a unique piece of European architecture. This 209 meter long spiral walk winds 7 1/2 times around Rundtårns hollow core right up to the final stone stairs that lead the visitor ono the 360 degree viewing platform. This spiral walk is the buildings only connection between the tower and the library room (exhibition hall nowadays) ringer ceiling, tower and church.
Library Room
About halfway up the tower you will arrive at the Library room. The Library room is a huge 900 square meter hall which nowadays is used for exhibitions and other cultural events throughout the year. This is also where Rundetårn´s shop and café are located. Your admission ticket to the Round Tower also gives you (the visitor) access to the exhibition hall.
Bell Loft
The Ringer Ceiling or Bell Loft is located toward the top of The Round Tower.

We are at The Round Tower (Rundetårn) located on the Købmagergade walking street in the Old Town part of Copenhagen in Denmark. The tower is part of the Trinitatis Complex which also provided the scholars of the time with a university chapel, the Trinitatis Church, and an academic library which was the first purpose-built facilities of the Copenhagen University Library which had been founded in 1482.
Spiral Walk
The Spiral walk leading to the top of the Round Tower is a unique piece of European architecture. This 209 meter long spiral walk winds 7 1/2 times around Rundtårns hollow core right up to the final stone stairs that lead the visitor ono the 360 degree viewing platform. This spiral walk is the buildings only connection between the tower and the library room (exhibition hall nowadays) ringer ceiling, tower and church.
Library Room
About halfway up the tower you will arrive at the Library room. The Library room is a huge 900 square meter hall which nowadays is used for exhibitions and other cultural events throughout the year. This is also where Rundetårn´s shop and café are located. Your admission ticket to the Round Tower also gives you (the visitor) access to the exhibition hall.
Bell Loft
The Ringer Ceiling or Bell Loft is located toward the top of The Round Tower.

The Trinitatis Church is built together with The Round Tower and completed in 1656, which were several years after the Round Tower was inaugurated by King Christian IV in 1642. Copenhagen is the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and is situated on the east coast of Sæland Island on the Öresund, the link between the North Sea and the Baltic. I had an awesome time, and was SO glad to see them Again. :) We went to 'Rundetårn' and saw the view, walked through 'Strøget' to see New Haven and get some ice-cream.
This is my first actual 'vlog', and I don't know if it's something I should keep doing or not, but I really enjoyed doing it today! :)

The Trinitatis Church is built together with The Round Tower and completed in 1656, which were several years after the Round Tower was inaugurated by King Christian IV in 1642. The loft was used as a library for the University until 1861. Trinitatis Church altarpiece and pulpit originates from 1756-67. In 1728 the church was damaged by a fire and was rebuilt again in 1731. Under the Choir there is a tomb where many prominent persons buried.

From 34.8m above the street a viewing platform runs around the observatory, overlooking Copenhagen's old Latin Quarter. A unique, whitewashed helical corridor leads to the top of the tower, and also provides access to the Biblioteksai (library), where exhibitions and concerts are held throughout the year.

Copenhagen Walking Streets - This is a walk from Nørreport Station (Norreport Station) down Frederiksborggade over Kultorvet and down Købmagergade (Kobmagergade) to one of Copenhagen's main attractions the Round Tower or Rundetårn as it is called in Danish. Tourists visiting Copenhagen will be interested in watching our video of the walk up Rundetårn which will be uploaded to YouTube after this video.
This is Copenhagen footage from a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Action Camera mounted on a GoPole. We are on one of Copenhagen´s main walking streets filming with a GoPro action camera held above my head with the help of the Go Pole (telescopic fold away waterproof pole). Copenhagen is a magnificent place to visit for a city weekend holiday and any tourist visiting this city will surely notice and enjoy walking on the car free walking shopping streets of Copenhagen.
Our walk starts just over the road from Nørreport Station on Frederiksborggade (please excuse the big building scaffolding at the beginning of this walking street. This is where one of the future Copenhagen Metro Stations is being built. These building sites are currently visible in many areas of the city. The Metro will be completed in 2018 and will be a gift to all visitors and residents of the Danish capital so the construcyion work is a necessary ill.).
From Frederiksborggade we reach a large open pedestrian square which is called Kultorvet (This area is a popular spot for sitting and watching people passing by during the summer).

From Kultorvet our walk continues on Købmagergade and we follow this beautiful walking street all the way down to the Round Tower (Rundetårn). If you continue down Købmagergage you will reach Strøget (Stroget) which is Copenhagens main and most famous walking street. Walking down Strøget is a Copenhagen tourist attraction in itself!
The Round Tower one of Copenhagen's Top Tourist Attractions or at least one of the Must See Sights when sightseeing in the city, called Rundetårn in Danish (watch a separate video of that / to be uploaded) .

Copenhagen Walking Streets - This is a walk from Nørreport Station (Norreport Station) down Frederiksborggade over Kultorvet and down Købmagergade (Kobmagergade) to one of Copenhagen's main attractions the Round Tower or Rundetårn as it is called in Danish. Tourists visiting Copenhagen will be interested in watching our video of the walk up Rundetårn which will be uploaded to YouTube after this video.
This is Copenhagen footage from a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Action Camera mounted on a GoPole. We are on one of Copenhagen´s main walking streets filming with a GoPro action camera held above my head with the help of the Go Pole (telescopic fold away waterproof pole). Copenhagen is a magnificent place to visit for a city weekend holiday and any tourist visiting this city will surely notice and enjoy walking on the car free walking shopping streets of Copenhagen.
Our walk starts just over the road from Nørreport Station on Frederiksborggade (please excuse the big building scaffolding at the beginning of this walking street. This is where one of the future Copenhagen Metro Stations is being built. These building sites are currently visible in many areas of the city. The Metro will be completed in 2018 and will be a gift to all visitors and residents of the Danish capital so the construcyion work is a necessary ill.).
From Frederiksborggade we reach a large open pedestrian square which is called Kultorvet (This area is a popular spot for sitting and watching people passing by during the summer).

From Kultorvet our walk continues on Købmagergade and we follow this beautiful walking street all the way down to the Round Tower (Rundetårn). If you continue down Købmagergage you will reach Strøget (Stroget) which is Copenhagens main and most famous walking street. Walking down Strøget is a Copenhagen tourist attraction in itself!
The Round Tower one of Copenhagen's Top Tourist Attractions or at least one of the Must See Sights when sightseeing in the city, called Rundetårn in Danish (watch a separate video of that / to be uploaded) .

10 reasons to hit Finnish Lapland
1. Gold

There's gold in them there Lapland river valleys. It was first discovered in the Ivalojoki river valley in 1868, prompting a mini-gold rush.
But there's still a little to be found by lucky and/or determined prospectors.
When the rivers thaw, locals and tourists alike get panning, hoping to come upon a life-changing nugget.
A 251-gram nugget was once found in the Miessijoki river, but many tourists head for the museum at the Tankavaara Gold Village, where the Finnish Open Goldpanning competition takes place every July and visitors can pan for gold all year round.
2. Lip-licking Lappish food

Fans of Rudolph look away now -- reindeer features heavily in the local cuisine.
It's fat free, healthy and wonderfully gamey, but if eating one of Santa's beloved sleigh-pullers is a step too far, there are plenty of other Lappish delicacies to explore.
There's reindeer food (lichen), which, when dried, makes a light, crisp garnish for all kinds of arctic fish, baby root vegetables, herbs, berries and even licorice.
For a full expression of local flavors with a modern twist there's Lapland Hotel Sky Ounasvaara's restaurant in Rovaniemi, where TV chef Tero Mantykangas pushes the boundaries of an ancient cuisine.
3. Gorgeous lakes filled with fish
=================
Lapland is home to hundreds of lakes, the biggest of which is Lake Inari, in the far north, which covers more than 1,000 square kilometers.
Even when the lakes are frozen, Lappish fishermen can be found with their ice fishing augers drilling through the ice by hand to catch pike, perch, rainbow trout and whitefish.
Ice fishing safaris are available to tourists, which often include scooting off to a frozen lake by snowmobile.
There's often more chance of catching a cold than a fish, though, so warm clothes are recommended.
Grayling Land offers ice fishing safaris from October to May.
4. Wildlife (and the not-so-wild life)
========================
There are wolves, wolverines and brown bears roaming around the wilderness of Finnish Lapland. So it's a good idea to whistle while you're exploring to let them know you're coming.
Locals have the right to hunt small numbers of these beasts without a special permit. Many keep herds of reindeer, which often fall prey to such predators.
Luckily, there are some 200,000 reindeer in Lapland -- and only 180,000 people.
Huskies and white Samoyed were brought in from Siberia too, as working dogs to pull sleds. These days they pull tourists, but it gets them out of their kennels.
Nordic Visitor provide dogsled tours and other activities in Finnish Lapland.

Three people were shot outside a synagogue in Copenhagen early Sunday morning, hours after a gunman fatally shot a man and wounded three police officers at a free speech event in the same city. Danish police said one person was shot in the head, and two police officers were injured by gunfire at a synagogue in the Krystalgade area of Copehagen, broadcaster DK reported.
