Les Misérables: The Dream Cast in Concert aka Les Misérables in Concert is a concert version of the musical Les Misérables, produced to celebrate its 10th anniversary. It was filmed in October 1995 at the Royal Albert Hall and released on DVD and VHS in 1998 and re-released on DVD in North America in 2008. It stars Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, Philip Quast as Inspector Javert, Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy, Lea Salonga as Éponine, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, and several others, and was directed by John Caird. The performers were chosen from London, Broadway and Australian productions of the show. Ruthie Henshall: She made her mark in London's West End in the late 1980s and early 1990s, appearing in Cats, Miss Saigon (graduating from the chorus to the second female lead), Children of Eden and Les Misérables as Fantine. Her first starring role came in the 1993 trans-Atlantic transfer of the Broadway smash Crazy for You, with a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, opening at the Prince Edward Theatre. Her performance earned her the first of four Olivier Award nominations. In 1994, Henshall starred in She Loves Me, winning the Olivier as Best Actress in a Musical. That same year, she performed a concert of Gershwin songs at London's Royal Festival Hall. More than 500 members of the GW community teamed up on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to spruce up five public schools in Southeast DC Sporting t-shirts bearing the message "A Day On, Not a Day Off," students, faculty and staff painted playgrounds and walls, created murals, organized classrooms and cleaned desks at Ballou Senior High School, Ballou STAY High School, MC Terrell/McGogney Elementary School, Stanton Elementary School and Moten Elementary School at Wilkinson. According to District of Columbia Public Schools data, Ward 8 is the poorest area in DC In addition to having the highest poverty rate, it has the highest rate of unemployment and of residents without a high school diploma. All five schools involved in Monday's day of service are Title 1 schools -- a federal designation that provides extra funding to underachieving schools. Since 2001, GW has participated in the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and Monday's event marked the third time GW students served at Ballou. "We are a university known for the engagement of our students and our faculty and staff. So many of our students come here to the nation's capital because they want to make a difference in people's lives," said Dr. Knapp. At the end of the day, the GW community gathered in Ballou's gym for a closing ceremony. The Patriot is a 2000 epic[2] war film directed by Roland Emmerich, written by Robert Rodat, and starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger. It was produced by the Mutual Film Company and Centropolis Entertainment and was distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film mainly takes place in South Carolina (and was entirely filmed there) and depicts the story of a war hero swept into the American Revolutionary War when his family is threatened. The protagonist, Benjamin Martin, is loosely based on real Continental Army officer Francis Marion and other Revolutionary War figures. The Patriot was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Sound, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music Score. At the beginning of the American Revolution, Benjamin Martin (Gibson) is a South Carolina veteran of the French and Indian War and a widower raising his seven children on his farm. Gabriel (Ledger), the eldest, is anxious to join the American forces fighting the British in the Revolutionary War. Knowing war from personal experience, Ben tries to discourage his son's ambitions, but his son enlists anyway. Gabriel returns home two years later, stumbling wounded into the family home and carrying military dispatches. The next day, a military skirmish have the Martins caring for the wounded from both sides.
