Kurds
The Kurds (Kurdish: کورد Kurd) are an ethnic group in the Middle East, mostly inhabiting a contiguous area spanning adjacent parts of eastern and southeastern Turkey (Northern Kurdistan), western Iran (Eastern or Iranian Kurdistan), northern Iraq (Southern or Iraqi Kurdistan), and northern Syria (Western Kurdistan or Rojava). The Kurds have ethnically diverse origins. They are culturally and linguistically closely related to the Iranian peoples and, as a result, are often themselves classified as an Iranian people.Kurdish nationalists claim that the Kurds are descended from the Hurrians and the Medes, (the latter being another Iranian people) and the claimed Median descent is reflected in the words of the Kurdish national anthem: "we are the children of the Medes and Kai Khosrow". The Kurdish languages form a subgroup of the Northwestern Iranian languages.
The Kurds are estimated to number, worldwide, around 30–32 million, possibly as high as 37 million, with the majority living in West Asia; however there are significant Kurdish diaspora communities in the cities of western Turkey, in particular Istanbul. A recent Kurdish diaspora has also developed in Western countries, primarily in Germany. The Kurds are the majority population in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan and in the autonomous region of Rojava, and are a significant minority group in the neighboring countries Turkey and Iran, where Kurdish nationalist movements continue to pursue greater autonomy and cultural rights.

Kurdish Peshmerga and Kurdish PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) Forces, together with American Special Operation Forces, battle ISIS South of Kirkuk in South-Kurdistan (Kurdistan Regional Government). Date: 18-01-2016 (January, 18th, 2016).
The PKK is arguably the most effective force battling ISIS. The YPG is the Syrian branch of the PKK in Rojava (West-Kurdistan, Northern-Syria).
In this video, we see Peshmerga, PKK and American forces. The fighters in traditional Kurdish military clothing are members of the PKK. The other soldiers in normal military uniforms are Peshmerga and American Special Operation Forces.

"Fire of Anatolia", a dance group composed by 120 dancers whose director is the kurd Mustafa Erdogan (from Colemerg - Hakkari). The video shows all the elements that identify the kurdish classic culture and identity, a people before known as the "Adorers of the fire and the Sun", a people more than 3.000 years old. The group holds two Guinness records, one for fastest dance performance with 241 steps per minute and another for largest audience, 400 000 people in Ereğli, in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. Elements in this particular show are inspired in The Zoroastrians and Yezidi Kurds, and folkdances from Kurdistan, while the group also performs other shows inspired in the Shaman Turks of Central Asia, different regions of Turkey and Alevi Moslem dances (in this case, search on Youtube...

Uploaded by kind permission from its author, Florence Gavage. According to ancient legend, in the beginning God created a white pearl and a bird. He then created seven angels including Melek Taus, the peacock angel whom he made the greatest of them all. To make land, He threw Lalish into the water which made it solid. And so the seven Angels went ashore at Lalish. These people, the Yezidis, believe that they were the very first inhabitants on earth when the world was created. Yezidism is one of the most unusual and unknown religions on earth. It has survived during the centuries despite its status as an unrecognized religion under Islamic rule, and through many onslaughts against its Kurdish followers.
