Classical logic
Classical logic identifies a class of formal logics that have been most intensively studied and most widely used. The class is sometimes called standard logic as well. They are characterised by a number of properties:
While not entailed by the preceding conditions, contemporary discussions of classical logic normally only include propositional and first-order logics.
The intended semantics of classical logic is bivalent. With the advent of algebraic logic it became apparent however that classical propositional calculus admits other semantics. In Boolean-valued semantics (for classical propositional logic), the truth values are the elements of an arbitrary Boolean algebra; "true" corresponds to the maximal element of the algebra, and "false" corresponds to the minimal element. Intermediate elements of the algebra correspond to truth values other than "true" and "false". The principle of bivalence holds only when the Boolean algebra is taken to be the two-element algebra, which has no intermediate elements.

In the lecture "Do We Need any Paraconsistent Logic in Theology?" prof. Lambert, outlined several situations when non-classical logics may be useful in theological thinking and remarked that paraconsistent logic should be used carefully. His belief was that paraconsistent logic can be applied only to describe singularities and discontinuities. Otherwise, contradictions would invade whole system of ideas and make it useless. But recent decades have seen growing interest in "deviant," paraconsistent systems that include non-explosive relations of logical consequence. Further, some deviant logicians, such as Priest, assert the existence of dialetheias (true contradictions). In this conversation, Eckert and Priest discuss whether and how deviant logic should be studied in the undergraduate classroom. The philosophical discussion of this lesson is the problem of vagueness and the sorites paradox. We will read the first chapter of Rosanna Keefe's Theories of Vagueness.
The philosophical discussion motivates two alternative weakenings of classical logic: K3 and LP. These logics can be defined with the aid of a three-valued semantics. We show how to extend the tableaux introduced in section 1 to deal with these logics. We evaluate the solutions to the paradox provided by these logics and introduce a third alternative logic, the logic of tolerance ST.

In the lecture "Do We Need any Paraconsistent Logic in Theology?" prof. Lambert, outlined several situations when non-classical logics may be useful in theological thinking and remarked that paraconsistent logic should be used carefully. His belief was that paraconsistent logic can be applied only to describe singularities and discontinuities. Otherwise, contradictions would invade whole system of ideas and make it useless. Prof. Lambert underlined the fact that there are two possible interpretations of paraconsistency: the epistemological interpretation (contradiction is in our language and not in reality) and the ontological interpretation (contradictions exist in reality). Prof. Lambert mentioned two main theological issues which can be fruitfully addressed by paraconsistent logic: solving paradoxes coming from God's attributes and reconciliating some contradictory attributes "in our scale" to show that in fact some contradictions are the clue of higher order reality.
The goal of the seminar was to analyze the language and logic of theological discourse. On typical accounts, only selected linguistic and logical aspects of theology are discussed, such as the problem of analogical terms or the so-called 'proofs' of God's existence. However, as any discourse, the theological one may be subject to more thorough formal scrutiny: it seems potentially fruitful to engage in the analysis of the structure of theological theories, the relationship between theology as a theory and other theories (e.g., science or philosophy), the problem of what kind of logic is suitable to reconstruct theological discourse, the question of the semantic values in theology, etc. In addressing such problems the seminar's participants followed the footsteps of the members of the Kraków Circle (J. Bocheński, J. Salamucha, J.F. Drewnowski), who in the 1930s initiated the research in the formal reconstruction of religious discourse.
The "Language - Logic - Theology" seminar was funded from the research grant The Limits of Scientific Explanation, awarded by The John Templeton Foundation.

Further, some deviant logicians, such as Priest, assert the existence of dialetheias (true contradictions). In this conversation, Eckert and Priest discuss whether and how deviant logic should be studied in the undergraduate classroom. Then (starting at 29:40) they look for dialetheias in the areas of emotions, legal norms, and contradictory fictions.

Bastille Day revelers were targeted in what is being called a terrorist attack by a truck carrying hand grenades and other weapons drove onto a sidewalk for more than a mile, killing 77 people before police were able to shoot and kill the driver according to The Associated Press. Turkey’s leaders said they have largely quelled an attempted military coup, after army officers claimed to have seized power in the country on Friday night. The coup appeared to crumble in the early hours of Saturday after crowds answered president Tayyip Erdogan’s earlier call to take to the streets to support him ...
