Sir Geoffrey Robert Rowland, QC, was the Bailiff of Guernsey from 2005 to 2012.
Rowland was called to the English Bar at Gray's Inn in 1970 and admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court, Guernsey, in 1971. He was in practice as an Advocate of the Royal Court in the firm of Collas, Day & Rowland 1971 - 1992. He was Vice Chairman of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission 1997 - 2002. He was then recommended for Crown Office and left private practice when Senior Partner.
He successively held office as H M Comptroller (Solicitor General) 1992 - 1999, and H M Procureur (Attorney General) 1999 - 2002. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1993. He also held office as H M Receiver General 1999 - 2002.
Elevated to the Judiciary, he held the office of Deputy Bailiff 2002 - 2005 and was installed as Bailiff of Guernsey in June 2005. The Bailiff of Guernsey is ex-officio President of the Guernsey Court of Appeal. Geoffrey has also been a Judge of the Jersey Court of Appeal since 2005.
The X Factor is a television music competition franchise created by Simon Cowell. It originated in the United Kingdom, where it was devised as a replacement for Pop Idol (2001–2003). It is held in various countries. The programmes are produced by executive producer Simon Cowell and his company SYCOtv. The "X Factor" of the title refers to the undefinable "something" that makes for star quality. The prize is usually a recording contract, in addition to the publicity that appearance in the later stages of the show itself generates, not only for the winner but also for other highly ranked contestants.
The similarities between The X Factor and Idols prompted Idol creator Simon Fuller, along with 19 Entertainment, to file a lawsuit against Cowell, SYCOtv, and FremantleMedia in 2004. An out-of-court settlement was reached in 2005 allowing Fuller to gain a 10% share in The X Factor format, and preventing an American version until 2010. Fuller later filed another lawsuit in 2011, claiming that he had also been promised that he would be credited as an executive producer of The X Factor USA, but that Syco, FremantleMedia, and Fox Broadcasting Company had failed to fulfill that promise; that lawsuit is pending.
Jeffrey Adam "Jeff" Gutt (born May 2, 1976) is a musician and vocalist originating from the Metro Detroit area, known as the former lead vocalist of the nu metal band Dry Cell.
Gutt has appeared in two seasons of the American reality television series The X Factor. He first appeared in Season 2 (2012) when he drew international acclaim for his heartfelt rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," before being eliminated in the following "Boot Camp" episode. Gutt competed in Season 3 (2013) of The X Factor USA, finishing in second place. In 2014, Gutt was dubbed as one of the most 'influential' X Factor USA contestants of all-time by FoxWeekly.
Gutt's family resided in St. Clair County, located in southeast Michigan, throughout most of his childhood years. He attended schools in both Algonac and Marine City, graduating from Marine City High School in 1994.
Gutt's prominent band during his high school years was Innerfaith. He was the frontman of Innerfaith, which he formed with friends Matt Brooks on bass, Jeff Sankuer on drums, and guitarist Patrick Sankuer. Innerfaith wrote and performed original songs, ultimately winning the "Blue Water Area Battle of the Bands" in Marysville, Michigan.
Roland "Tiny" Rowland (27 November 1917 – 25 July 1998) was a British businessman and chief executive of the Lonrho conglomerate from 1962 to 1994. He gained fame from a number of high-profile takeover bids, in particular his bid to take control of Harrods.
Roland was born Roland Walter Fuhrhop on 27 November 1917 during World War I in a British internment camp for aliens in India. His mother was Anglo-Dutch and his father was a German trader. As the Fuhrhops were refused entry in to the United Kingdom following the end of the First World War, that family settled in Hamburg, Germany. He was said to have been nicknamed "Tiny" by his mother because of his large size. In the 1930s, he was briefly in the Hitler Youth.
His father, who despised Adolf Hitler, moved the family to the United Kingdom in 1937, where his son attended Churcher's College, Hampshire.
Rowland then worked for his uncle's shipping business in the City of London. He took his uncle's surname, 'Rowland' on his 22nd birthday. On the outbreak of World War II, he was conscripted into the British Army, where he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. As enemy aliens, his parents were interned on the Isle of Man, where his mother died. He himself was interned as an enemy alien after trying to arrange for the release of his father.
Dieter Bock (1938/39 – 12 May 2010) was a German lawyer and tax consultant turned businessman. At the time of his death he was one of the wealthiest Germans, with a fortune of £500 million. He choked to death in the Atlantic Kempinski luxury hotel in Hamburg at the age of 71.
He was born in the German city of Dessau. In 1953, his family fled from East Germany and settled in Munich. He was part of the supervisory board of Advanta Management, a key investor in the construction group Philipp Holzmann and the largest investor in the Kempinski hotel chain.

This is a rare interview with the charismatic Tiny Rowland, CEO of Lonrho, and Dieter Bock co-CEO. The interview discusses the rivalry between the two tycoons for control of the Lonrho conglomerate. It also looks into the business background of Dieter Bock, a German property developer who took a major stake in Lonrho during the early 1990's which was when this report was filmed for the BBC's "Money Programme" series. Apologies for the poor video and sound quality, the source was a dusty old VHS recording from about 20 years ago. I thought I would upload it anyway as this may be the only copy in existance. It's very rare to see any video material of Tiny Rowland and I know there are plenty of people out there interested in him. Tiny Rowland was a remarkable but sometimes ruthless Brit...

Continuing in the Fitness Factory tradition of taking on major physical challenges for charity, 12 members of the Guernsey Rowing Club undertook a gruelling indoor row of 100km each on 4th December 2011 to raise money for the Guernsey MS Society and Guernsey Cheshire Home charities. A Guernsey Rowing Club women's team of rowers also undertook the 100km row in relay. Throughout the day supplementary 2k relay races took place on the hour, every hour, with teams of four individuals each rowing 500 metres to make up the 2k distance. Competition in the relays was both fun and intense and created excitement and footfall throughout the day to provide support to the main event. A couple of celebrity rows were also lined up, most notably Sir Geoffrey Rowland taking his part in a relay team.
Alexandra Meadors conducts this roundtable discussion with four other healers who have gathered at Galactic Connection: Jerry Yusko, Geoffrey Rosenberg, David Rowland-Zaher, and Jeff Godfrey. Our extraordinary healers discuss their individual specialties and skill sets, and the larger paradigms that undergird their common service-to-others of healing here at Galactic Connection. The conversation focuses principally on the new hopes, insights, and challenges of the current energetic environment. Our group commonly agrees that there is an increased need for individual disentanglement and that these pre-Ascension times call for all of us to stand in our own authority, if only eventually to re-align with others from a purer and more streamlined state of consciousness. http://www.iBiology.org Talk overview: Berg begins his lecture with a brief history of observations of bacterial motion. He then uses physics to describe the many hurdles that E. coli must overcome as it tries to swim up or down a chemical gradient. For instance, an entity as tiny as E. coli is constantly buffeted by Brownian motion and can neither stay still nor swim in a straight line. Then there is the question of how E. coli senses a gradient and translates that information into a change in its direction of movement. And finally, how does E. coli use its flagella to generate thrust at all? In Part 2, Berg explains that E. coli travels using a series of runs, when it moves in a straight line, and tumbles, when it changes direction. During a run, all of the flagella are moving co...

In this conversation with Mark Van Steenwyk we consider the themes of his book "That Holy Anarchist" , which explores the intersection of Christianity and Anarchism. Despite the seeming distance between these traditions in the popular imagination, we examine many deep points of contact, from their mutual rejection of established power structures, through to imagining different modes of human relationship and society more conducive to intimacy and freedom.
