Living Coasts is a coastal zoo owned by Paignton Zoo as part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, which includes Newquay Zoo. It is a registered charity, and is based around seabirds and other coastal wildlife. The site is covered by a giant aviary which includes several animal enclosures and habitats including an artificial tidal estuary, a penguin beach, a tropical mangrove swamp, and underwater viewing areas.
Living Coasts is Britain's only coastal zoo. It is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA), the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
Living Coasts opened to the public on 14 July 2003, and is now visited by over 100,000 visitors a year.
The aviary, which cost £7 million to build, is 19 metres (62 ft) at its highest point and has a total volume of 1.8 million cubic feet (51,000 m3). This free flying enclosure is home to mammals and birds including South American fur seals, African penguins, macaroni penguins, sea ducks, pied avocet, redshanks, black-necked stilts, ruffs, and terns.
Living may refer to:
A coastline or a seashore is the area where land meets the sea or ocean, or a line that forms the boundary between the land and the ocean or a lake. A precise line that can be called a coastline cannot be determined due to the Coastline paradox.
The term coastal zone is a region where interaction of the sea and land processes occurs. Both the terms coast and coastal are often used to describe a geographic location or region; for example, New Zealand's West Coast, or the East and West Coasts of the United States. Edinburgh for example is a city on the coast of Scotland.
A pelagic coast refers to a coast which fronts the open ocean, as opposed to a more sheltered coast in a gulf or Headlands and bays/bay. A shore, on the other hand, can refer to parts of the land which adjoin any large body of water, including oceans (sea shore) and lakes (lake shore). Similarly, the somewhat related term "[Stream bed/bank]" refers to the land alongside or sloping down to a river (riverbank) or to a body of water smaller than a lake. "Bank" is also used in some parts of the world to refer to an artificial ridge of earth intended to retain the water of a river or pond; in other places this may be called a levee.
Day out at Living Coasts Torquay. Music by: Kevin MacLeod
This video is to be continued... For more information please visit http://www.livingcoasts.org.uk This footage was filmed during March 2013 and features Living Coast's macaroni penguins travelling from their usual home of Penguin Beach - which they share with our African penguins - to their breeding area. As you can see from the footage they have left behind the golden sand of Penguin Beach and are more at home amongst the rocks and pebbles of their breeding area. Eggs should hopefully be laid in April with the first chicks appearing in May. Watch this space for more footage. Living Coasts in South Devon is Torquay's coastal zoo and aquarium. It is open every day, all year round, apart from Christmas Day.

A few clips from a trip to Living Coasts in Torquay, Devon, UK. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. http://www.livingcoasts.org.uk/ The music is Ask The Mountains by Vangelis.
This video shows a number of sequences starting with the macaroni penguins being allowed onto their breeding area (filmed back in March). Once they establish their nest area they call out to their mate which also is a sound to mark their territory. To help the macaronis build their nests, which are mainly made up of pebbles, two volunteers from Paignton Zoo regularly collect sticks from an area close to Clennon Gorge (at Paignton Zoo). The sticks are then delivered to the macaroni breeding area. The scene filmed that shows the macaroni penguins carefully selecting sticks from the pile and taking them to their nests was filmed at the beginning of May. In the last scene you can see Millie, one of the mac penguins, sat on her egg (laid early/mid May), with a few of the sticks sticking out...

The skyline of Gold Coast practically dips its toes in the ocean, and much of the area is rich in lush greenery and waterfalls. The north coast of this city began as a vacation retreat in the 1850’s, and maintains its position as the Gold Coast’s heart and soul of entertainment and surfing. Many Gold Coast tours begin in the north and work their way south. The atmosphere in the north is quite bustling, while the south coast has a slower vibe and is a bit more relaxed. In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...
The Costa Brava, the ‘wild coast’ is the coast of Catalonia, which, with its yearly 50 million visitors, is one of Europe’s largest holiday paradises. The mild, Mediterranean climate, the crystal clear water, the mysterious, rocky bays, the long, sandy beaches, the southern flora, the wonders of the Spanish and Catalonian cuisine, the historical monuments and artistic values invite more and more visitors each year. Such artists were living and creating here as Salvador Dali, Anton Gaudi, Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Joan Miro. Cadeques is a city of arts, an untouched fishing village, which also has one of Europe’s largest artistic collections. Figueras is mostly known for its Dali museum. They say that once they kept the Holy Grail in the fort above the picturesque San Pere de Rodes monaster...

I don't know how long I've been here
the days all run together
You're gone but you won't disappear
Traces of you will last forever
It feels like...
If I hold my breath you'll walk in any second
and tell me it was all a mistake, cant believe that you left and
It haunts me to hold you this close
but hurts me more to let go
That's why I'm still loving ghosts
They say I should get on with my life
but I can't even get up
I'd rather believe in this beautiful lie
than admit you're really gone forever
Every sense is screaming
every hair stands on my skin
every room I feel it. You are here!
Baby I'm not seeing, but I'm still believing
My heartbreak a chance worth taking
so on this floor I'll still be waiting
and OH...I feel you this close now
