2010–11 Taça da Liga
The 2010–11 Taça da Liga was the fourth edition of the Portuguese Taça da Liga. The first matches were played on August 8, 2010. The final was scheduled on April 23, 2011 at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra. Benfica beat Paços de Ferreira 2-1, and won their third title.
Format
This seasons' format consists of 3 rounds, plus knockout stages. In the first round only second division teams play. All 16 teams are allocated into four groups of four teams each. Each team plays 3 matches and top two of each group advances. In the second round, teams that qualified from previous round are joined by the two Primeira Liga promoted teams and also the six-worst in the top league in the previous season. There will be two-legged fixtures in which the winners will advance. The third round is where the remaining top eight teams from previous season first division enter the competition. Again, as in the first round, the 16 teams are divided into four groups and each team will play three matches. However this time, only group winners advance. Both semi-finals and finals are one-legged fixtures.
Taça da Liga
The Taça da Liga (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈtasɐ dɐ ˈliɣɐ]), known outside Portugal as the Portuguese League Cup, is a football cup competition organized by the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP) that is contested by the clubs competing in the Primeira Liga and Segunda Liga, the top two tiers of Portuguese football. Unlike the French and English league cups, the winners do not qualify for European competitions.
The competition was established in the 2007–08 season, after a proposal by Sporting CP and Boavista was approved by LPFP member clubs at a meeting in Porto, on 28 November 2006. Due to sponsorship reasons, it was known as Carlsberg Cup during the first three seasons, and as bwin Cup in 2010–11. From the 2015–16 season, it will be known as Taça CTT. Most of the participating clubs take the chance to rotate their main squad and give opportunities to youngsters.
The current holders are Benfica who defeated Marítimo 2–1 in the 2015 Taça da Liga Final to secure a record sixth title in the competition.
