Rafael Cruz was born in Cuba in 1939. He says he joined Fidel Castro’s Cuban revolution at age 14 but didn't know at the time Castro was a Communist. He fled Cuba at age 18 in 1957 after allegedly suffering beatings and imprisonment for protesting the Batista regime. He studied mathematics at the University of Texas but continually claims to be a scientist when spouting his belief that the theory of evolution is a diabolical plot mounted by Marxists to impose communism on the world. Rafael Cruz admits he was drinking heavily before coming to Christ, which he says happened on Tuesday April 15th 1975 at the age 36. The story he tells is that when Ted was 3 years old he left his wife and traveled to Houston staying there for 4 months. During this time he got involved with a bible study group and had an epiphany. He then drove back to Calgary to ask his wife for forgiveness but also gave her an ultimatum forcing her to choose between following him back to Houston or raising Ted on her own. Once back in Houston with his wife and Ted he spent the next several years attending every meeting at the church to the point where his own wife tells him “you traded the bar for the church”. Rafael Cruz is an advocate of Christian dominionism, which says that fundamentalist Christians should take over every aspect of american lives. In fact Cruz is quoted as saying "It's time we stop being politically correct and start being biblically correct.” Dominionists believe that God not only anoints priests to lead the faithful, but also anoints kings to take dominion of nations. They feel Genesis is a mandate that 'men of faith' seize control of public institutions and govern by biblical principle. In the beginning of 2016 Rafael Cruz made a speech at the Kenneth Copeland Ministries Ministers' Conference where he said quote “separation of church and state is not in the constitution and it’s not in the declaration of independence and the word of God tells us the exact opposite. That religion should have an influence on the arts and entertainment, upon the media, upon sports, upon education, upon government. Every area of life.” Cruz’s enemy is secular humanism and points to prayer being removed from school in 1962 and the bible being removed from school in 1963 directly correlating to teen pregnancy and violent crime skyrocketing to over 500%. He’s even angry that churches remained silent during these changes to the school room. He has repeatedly said same-sex marriage is a satanic scheme and said it was "appalling" to have a gay mayor in Houston. Rafael Cruz demonstrates hyper-paranoia believing the United States government is trying to take God and our guns away from us to impose a dictatorship claiming Obama is an "outright Marxist" who "seeks to destroy all concept of God" and urges Americans to send him "back to Kenya”. He claims Obama is trying to bring America down to a Third World country and subjugate us to the United Nations. It’s an interesting claim considering Ted Cruz’s wife Heidi Cruz is affiliated with organizations that are publicly trying to build a borderless North America. And yet in August 2012, Rafael Cruz delivered a sermon at the New Beginnings Church in Irving, Texas, where he described Ted’s senatorial campaign as taking place within a context where Christian "Kings" were anointed to preside over an "end-time transfer of wealth" from wicked people to the righteous. In a time when we are at war against Islamic religious fundamentalism in groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda can we really risk putting a Christian religious fundamentalist into the office of President of the United States?
