My Albino Children: Black Brazilian Family Have Three White-Skinned Children

When Rosamere Fernanda de Andrade first held her newborn baby she assumed there had been a mix up. Rosamere and ex-husband, Joao, are both black - but their daughter, Ruth, had white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. But it was no mistake - Ruth, suffers from a rare generic condition called albinism and has no skin pigment. Since then Rosamere, 31, has had two more albino children as well as three black kids. So stark is the difference between Rosamere and three of her children, she is often mistaken for their nanny. The condition is characterised by the absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes - which leaves sufferers exposed to a range of afflictions. The youngsters are so sensitive to sunlight that they need factor 100 sun block every two hours - and only allowed to play outdoors at night.
The Andrade family's story appears in Body Bizarre on Thursday November 6, 9pm on TLC

AN AMBITIOUS mum is pushing her albino children to become star actors and Paralympians - vowing never to let them become 'undateables'. Self-confessed pushy-mum Lisa Needham has two albino children, Jessica, 11, and Ben, seven. She and husband James know no relatives with the condition and were shocked when doctors diagnosed their daughter four weeks after leaving hospital. The lively schoolgirl has very poor eyesight and must wear high-factor sunscreen in the sun but is determined to have a career on stage. Undeterred by the complications, both physical and sociological, the family decided to have another child, knowing that as carriers of the albino gene, they had a one in four chance of having an albino child again. With his bright white hair and pale skin, it was obvious Ben was also an albino. However, they have made it their mission to ensure both children mix in general society and do not become 'undateables' like Damian, the albino 25-year-old who appeared on the TV documentary of the same name. Ben - whose older brother Matt, 14, was born without albinism - has ambitions to compete at the Paralympics.

This is so ironic and sad! Chameleons are known for their ability to change colors but like almost every other animal species some of them are born as albino's. We wonder if these unlucky chameleons still think they are working their magic, when they are really not changing colors. The albino gets picked up by a hawk for instance and while he is being eaten the last thing going through his mind is: WTF, why didn't that work?!

It's no white lie: Two lobstermen in Maine caught a pair of rare albino lobsters within a week recently. The Portland Press Herald reports Bret Philbrick caught the curious crustacean off of Owls Head and Joe Bates caught one off the Rockland breakwater days within a week from one another. Albino lobsters are believed to be about one in 100 million.
3. Snowflake the gorilla
Snowflake the gorilla arrived at the Barcelona Zoo in the mid '60s to great fanfare, including an official reception thrown by the mayor of the city. Snowflake was captured by a farmer in Equatorial Guinea. Snowflake found his way to the Barcelona zoo where he settled into a comfortable life. He went on to father 22 babies, none of which were albino. Snowflake died of skin cancer in 2003.

Claude is an 18 year old 9.5 foot albino alligator and is the main attraction at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

They have also inspired some of the world’s most treasured works of literature, and have been kept as pets as well. With the dangers of living in the wild, it seems that captivity is the best chance that these albino animals have to survive past their infancy.
From land creatures to sea animals, the congenital disorder doesn’t discriminate between mammals and reptiles. It seems that humans have finally found a way to relate to the animal kingdom with similar paths of life as well as health issues. Hopefully, the life of albino animals will continue to progress to a life of safety and luxury, because they are truly special with a uniqueness that only comes once in a while.

When Rosamere Fernanda de Andrade first held her newborn baby she assumed there had been a mix up. Rosamere and ex-husband, Joao, are both black - but their daughter, Ruth, had white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. But it was no mistake - Ruth, suffers from a rare generic condition called albinism and has no skin pigment. Since then Rosamere, 31, has had two more albino children as well as three black kids. So stark is the difference between Rosamere and three of her children, she is often mistaken for their nanny. The condition is characterised by the absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes - which leaves sufferers exposed to a range of afflictions. The youngsters are so sensitive to sunlight that they need factor 100 sun block every two hours - and only allowed to play outdoors at night.
The Andrade family's story appears in Body Bizarre on Thursday November 6, 9pm on TLC

AN AMBITIOUS mum is pushing her albino children to become star actors and Paralympians - vowing never to let them become 'undateables'. Self-confessed pushy-mum Lisa Needham has two albino children, Jessica, 11, and Ben, seven. She and husband James know no relatives with the condition and were shocked when doctors diagnosed their daughter four weeks after leaving hospital. The lively schoolgirl has very poor eyesight and must wear high-factor sunscreen in the sun but is determined to have a career on stage. Undeterred by the complications, both physical and sociological, the family decided to have another child, knowing that as carriers of the albino gene, they had a one in four chance of having an albino child again. With his bright white hair and pale skin, it was obvious Ben was also an albino. However, they have made it their mission to ensure both children mix in general society and do not become 'undateables' like Damian, the albino 25-year-old who appeared on the TV documentary of the same name. Ben - whose older brother Matt, 14, was born without albinism - has ambitions to compete at the Paralympics.

This is so ironic and sad! Chameleons are known for their ability to change colors but like almost every other animal species some of them are born as albino's. We wonder if these unlucky chameleons still think they are working their magic, when they are really not changing colors. The albino gets picked up by a hawk for instance and while he is being eaten the last thing going through his mind is: WTF, why didn't that work?!

The Portland Press Herald reports Bret Philbrick caught the curious crustacean off of Owls Head and Joe Bates caught one off the Rockland breakwater days within a week from one another. Albino lobsters are believed to be about one in 100 million.
3. Snowflake the gorilla
Snowflake the gorilla arrived at the Barcelona Zoo in the mid '60s to great fanfare, including an official reception thrown by the mayor of the city. Snowflake was captured by a farmer in Equatorial Guinea. Snowflake found his way to the Barcelona zoo where he settled into a comfortable life. He went on to father 22 babies, none of which were albino. Snowflake died of skin cancer in 2003.
2. Claude the alligator
Claude is an 18 year old 9.5 foot albino alligator and is the main attraction at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

Migaloo the albino humpback is well-known in Australia where he regularly travels along the country's east coast during migration season. He was first spotted in 1991. Migaloo is the world’s only known albino humpback. He has been seen nearly every year since his discovery!

Also, if these animals are kept in a zoo, studies on them can be conducted and the public can be made more aware of albino animals. These animals used to be the product of myth and legend and are now confirmed to be real.
This video contains some of the most incredible cases of albino animals around the world. These are animals that defy the laws of nature, and are still surviving and living. However, albino animals can be difficult to capture, and often times, intense sacrifices need to be made for the sake of the animal’s detainment. From monkeys to koalas, it seems that nearly any animal species is vulnerable to the congenital disorder. Besides being different on the outside, they are just normal animals trying to exist in this world, and simply need some more support. Humans are incredibly fascinated by albino animals, and want to learn as much about them as possible. Zoos today are even trying to breed more albino animals for the sake of keeping this unique species alive. While it may seem impossible to save all albino animals, education is definitely the next step.
The animals in this video certainly prove that you don’t need to have any color to be beautiful. With celebrations, welcomes, parades, and even public funerals, albino animals are the newest mainstream celebrity. They have also inspired some of the world’s most treasured works of literature, and have been kept as pets as well. With the dangers of living in the wild, it seems that captivity is the best chance that these albino animals have to survive past their infancy.
From land creatures to sea animals, the congenital disorder doesn’t discriminate between mammals and reptiles. It seems that humans have finally found a way to relate to the animal kingdom with similar paths of life as well as health issues. Hopefully, the life of albino animals will continue to progress to a life of safety and luxury, because they are truly special with a uniqueness that only comes once in a while.

While it may seem impossible to save all albino animals, education is definitely the next step.

With celebrations, welcomes, parades, and even public funerals, albino animals are the newest mainstream celebrity. They have also inspired some of the world’s most treasured works of literature, and have been kept as pets as well. With the dangers of living in the wild, it seems that captivity is the best chance that these albino animals have to survive past their infancy.
From land creatures to sea animals, the congenital disorder doesn’t discriminate between mammals and reptiles. It seems that humans have finally found a way to relate to the animal kingdom with similar paths of life as well as health issues. Hopefully, the life of albino animals will continue to progress to a life of safety and luxury, because they are truly special with a uniqueness that only comes once in a while.
