‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’: Viral Spoof Video Shows ‘How It Should Have Ended’

When the seventh episode of the Star Wars franchise first premiered back in December, millions of fans and critics around the world applauded the film for so many different reasons. A vast number of longtime Star Wars fans were eager to find their way back to the theater in order to see the film again and again.

Most people that may have been a little reluctant or skeptical to see what J.J Abrams did to the film (and overall franchise) as the director and co-writer of the film had their doubts washed away within the first few minutes of the epic movie.

In addition to critical success, the film seemed to blow the box-office away around the world. Box Office Mojo reports that Star Wars: The Force Awakens generated over $2 billion worldwide. Over $909.8 million of that came from U.S. box office sales alone — an accomplishment that not very many movies have achieved in the history of cinema.

However, as is the case with any movie, this particular Star Wars film did have a few things that quite a few fans and critics had problems with when they saw it. Even though most of those issues quickly got swept under the “Who cares?” rug due to the overall success of the film, those little thorns were still there to prick the sides of many moviegoers — especially when you pay close attention to how the movie ended.

* WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD *

The popular YouTube channel, How It Should Have Ended (HISHE), did not hesitate to embrace quite a few of those annoying thorns in a brand new animated spoof video that focuses on how Star Wars: The Force Awakens should have ended.

Here are just some of the “changes” that HISHE made to the Star Wars film within this hilarious spoof video.

  • In the fight scene between the armed Stormtrooper and Finn, the Stormtrooper realizes that he has a weapon and doesn’t need to fight the “traitor” with hand-to-hand combat.
  • The BB-8 droid simply reboots R2-D2 and the droid comes on without any dramatic delay or complications.
  • Rey still uses the Force to manipulate the Stormtrooper, but makes better choices with her newly discovered ability.
  • The name of Star Killer Base is revised.
  • Finn’s intimidation technique simply does not work.

Perhaps the biggest highlight that is brought out in the How It Should Have Ended spoof is that Han Solo does not die in the movie — a change that would have undoubtedly pleased numerous fans that were disappointed by the decision to kill him off in such a graphic way.

Instead of dying at the hands of his only child, Luke Skywalker — the Jedi Master that most moviegoers wish would have appeared in the movie much sooner or at least had a speaking line — appeared to save the day right in time. It is true that he killed Kylo Ren in the process, which may cause a problematic ripple effect in future films since a brand new villain would need to be added into the equation. However, Han Solo would still have walked away from the seventh Star Wars film alive.
