Watch as Allyn explains how to calculate the voltage needed in order to match an amplifier's gain perfectly to subwoofers which have a lower wattage than the amplifier. He also explains how to use a digital multimeter to set your amp's gain to properly match your subwoofers.
In addition, he used our SMD amplifier dyno to test the amp to make sure that it is doing the needed RMS power.

In this video we'll be making a wireless bluetooth-enabled amplifier so that we can put old bookshelf speakers to good use!
Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously!

Oh, by the way, here's the note about the little switches:
These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.

The concepts of negative feedback, open loop gain, virtual grounds and opamp action. Cabinet is made from Puriri wood/Carbon fibre shell. 1 Bright switch that changes a cathode cap (from 25uf electrolytic cap to .1uf film cap) and incorporates a bright cap on the first gain stage. No tone stack. Clean channel and gain channel is switchable. Jupiter Vintage Tone caps, PRP metal film resistors. Chassis and PT are from an old NZ made tube radio. OT is Mercury Magnetics.

Small Tube Amp Build, Start To Finish
Original circuit all tube amp build. About 10 watts, 2x 12AX7 preamp tubes, 1 EL84 output tube. Cabinet is made from Puriri wood/Carbon fibre shell. 1 Bright switch that changes a cathode cap (from 25uf electrolytic cap to .1uf film cap) and incorporates a bright cap on the first gain stage. No tone stack. Clean channel and gain channel is switchable. Jupiter Vintage Tone caps, PRP metal film resistors. Chassis and PT are from an old NZ made tube radio. OT is Mercury Magnetics. -

Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously!

These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.

Guitars used are Robs heavily modded ESP LTD TE202, one of Robs Chapman Ghost Frets and the Capts very own Chapman CAP10.
BTW - apologies that the quality of audio while we were talking in this video isn't great - the main vocal mic failed so we're just using the camera mic audio for a lot of this video! We fixed the problem after this video, so all the other videos we shot that day are fine.

Cabinet is made from Puriri wood/Carbon fibre shell. 1 Bright switch that changes a cathode cap (from 25uf electrolytic cap to .1uf film cap) and incorporates a bright cap on the first gain stage. No tone stack. Clean channel and gain channel is switchable. Jupiter Vintage Tone caps, PRP metal film resistors. Chassis and PT are from an old NZ made tube radio. OT is Mercury Magnetics.

Those clever guys at Matrix have been making power amps, speakers & powered speakers for several years & and are the company of choice for many Axe Fx & Kemper owners. Matrix are famous for making amps that are light weight & reliable (& when I say reliable, I mean RELIABLE).
This little amp (called a VB800) is their first foray into making an amp that can be used stand alone, and along with the little 12" cab we used its about the smallest amp we've ever heard that you could genuinely gig with.

Today's test subject, the Rockford Fosgate Prime 750.1. This is RF's budget series amplifier. There is Prime, Punch and then Power series so this is the more "affordable" of the bunch. I have tested a few "cheap" brands in the past video's that claimed about 10x the power they really made so now i figured i would test the Prime amp, since it is RF's most basic model. Let's see if RF is telling the truth when they say 750 on the box...and i am a customer who doesn't know any better.
the SMD D'Amore Engineering Amp Dyno AD-1 is about to set the standard in car audio for amplifier ratings. Does your 5000 watt amp really do 5000 watts? Whether it is car, pro, or home audio, the AD-1 AKA the Honey Badger, does not care.
Remember, the amp dyno isn't so much about your amplifier not making the power as it is WHY the amp isn't making its power. If your electrical system, or some other link in the chain is not working to its full potential, the amplifier will not either. The dyno shows any small change you make in REAL TIME.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) engaged the help of professional hackers to find at least one software flaw to break into an iPhone used by one of the terrorists responsible for the Dec. 2 San Bernardino terrorist attacks, the Washington Post reported. The hackers were paid a one-time flat fee for their help, the Post said, quoting people familiar with the case....
