As Philly soul became more popular throughout the 1970’s, it would be notable for its orchestral instrumentation (which Gamble and Huff titled “sweetening”), heavy bass and driving percussion, courtesy of house band, MFSB (who themselves would record a number one hit, which would later become the theme song for Soul Train) ...
