We spent 5 days hiking through Colombian jungles searching for Ciudad Perdida, also known as The Lost City.
The Lost City dates back 600 years earlier then Machu Picchu. The site is also called "The Machu Picchu of the Caribbean"
Throughout the hike we swam in river pools, crossed rivers and walked alongside mountain edges. We booked our tour with the WiiWa Tour agency and although our tour guide did not share much information during the trip, we still had the time of our lives.
At the site, we got caught in a thunder storm and we spent the afternoon dancing in the rain as we were the only tour group there.

Ciudad Perdida
Ciudad Perdida (Spanish for "Lost City") is the archaeological site of an ancient city in Colombia's Sierra Nevada. It is believed to have been founded about 800 CE, some 650 years earlier than Machu Picchu. This location is also known as Teyuna and Buritaca.
Ciudad Perdida was "found" in 1972, when a group of local treasure looters found a series of stone steps rising up the mountainside and followed them to an abandoned city which they named "Green Hell" or "Wide Set". When gold figurines and ceramic urns from this city began to appear in the local black market, archaeologists headed by the director of the Instituto Colombiano de Antropologia reached the site in 1976 and completed reconstruction between 1976-1982.
Members of local tribes—the Arhuaco, the Koguis and the Wiwas—have stated that they visited the site regularly before it was widely discovered, but had kept quiet about it. They call the city Teyuna and believe it was the heart of a network of villages inhabited by their forebears, the Tairona. Ciudad Perdida was probably the region's political and manufacturing center on the Buritaca River and may have housed 2,000 to 8,000 people. It was apparently abandoned during the Spanish conquest.

We spent 5 days hiking through Colombian jungles searching for Ciudad Perdida, also known as The Lost City.
The Lost City dates back 600 years earlier then Machu Picchu. The site is also called "The Machu Picchu of the Caribbean"
Throughout the hike we swam in river pools, crossed rivers and walked alongside mountain edges. We booked our tour with the WiiWa Tour agency and although our tour guide did not share much information during the trip, we still had the time of our lives.
At the site, we got caught in a thunder storm and we spent the afternoon dancing in the rain as we were the only tour group there.

Se trata de un asentamiento de la etnia tairona que se encuentra perdida en mitad de la selva. Estuvo abandonada durante 400 años hasta que fue redescubierta en los años 70 del siglo XX. La Ciudad Perdida de Sierra Nevada es algo así como el Machu Pichu de Colombia. Se trata de un asentamiento de la etnia tairona que se encuentra perdida en mitad de la selva. Estuvo abandonada durante 400 años hasta que fue redescubierta en los años 70 del siglo XX.
Para llegar hasta allí hay que emprender una travesía a pie de 4-5 días. ¡Siempre cuesta arriba! Así que este es un viaje sólo para aventureros de tomo y lomo.

Descubren que una 'ciudad perdida' no fue construida por humanos
Durante años, las ruinas encontradas en las profundidades marinas hicieron pensar a los investigadores que podía tratarse de una Atlantis creada por el hombre.
Especialistas en arqueología marina del Ministerio de Cultura griego examinaron el lugar, que está entre dos y cinco metros bajo el agua, y no hallaron ninguna evidencia humana. Por eso, la búsqueda siguió con otras pistas y así lograron llegar al origen de las que parecían ser columnas circulares, antiguos muros y anillos.
¿Qué fue lo que ocurrió? Se trató, en realidad, de un fenómeno que se dio hace unos cinco millones de años derivado de la mineralización de filtraciones de hidrocarburos. Entonces, los microbios se alimentaron del carbono, mientras que el sedimento resultante se convirtió en un hormigón natural. "El cemento fue un mineral llamado dolomita que rara vez se forma en el mar, pero puede ser bastante común en los sedimentos ricos en microbios", explicó el profesor de la Universidad de East Anglia, Julian Andrews, en un comunicado
