Being Countercultural
Group Bible Study by
Gabe Lyons -
Q Group Studies.
For many years, the discussion of relevance has overwhelmed the church. Certainly, the church's ability to connect truth with the lives of people is critical, but has the pursuit of relevance distorted an understanding of our truest calling in society? In this first session of five on the Q Group Studies Being Countercultural
DVD, Gabe Lyons describes what it means to be countercultural and how historically, the power of the church has been in our ability to live in the tension of existing "in, but not of."
In Being Countercultural: Our Posture in a
Changing Society, host Gabe Lyons and DVD presenters
Andy Crouch and
Mike Foster explore how Christians need to live in contrast to the ways of the world. In this Q Group Studies experience, each individual and the group as a whole are challenged to return to a biblical way of life. In a harsh, sinful world, you can live counter-culturally by practicing discernment, showing grace, and valuing responsibility.
Lyons and
Norton Herbst then help individuals and the group as a whole explore—through short articles by noted authors, transcripts from Q Talks (included in the Participant's
Guide), five meetings to discuss important topics related to the overall theme, and thought-provoking questions—a biblical perspective on living a countercultural life in an out-of-control world.
Meetings are divided among video, group reading, and group activity or project.
