Juan Carlos I of Spain

Juan Carlos (/ˌhwɑːŋˈkɑːrloʊs/, Spanish: [xwaŋˈkaɾlos]; Juan Carlos Alfonso Víctor María de Borbón y Borbón-Dos Sicilias, born 5 January 1938) reigned as King of Spain from 1975 to 2014, when he abdicated in favour of his son, Felipe VI.

Generalísimo Francisco Franco, the Spanish dictator, took over the government of Spain from the short-lived Second Spanish Republic by leading a successful rebellion in 1939, and ruled as "Regent to the [exiled] King of Spain". In 1969, he chose Prince Juan Carlos, grandson of King Alfonso XIII, to be the next head of state, bypassing his father Juan de Borbón and expecting him to continue Franco's own authoritarian regime. Juan Carlos became King on 22 November 1975, two days after Franco's death, the first reigning monarch since 1931. His father did not abdicate in favor of his son until 1977. Soon after enthronement, however, Juan Carlos introduced reforms to dismantle the Francoist regime and begin the Spanish transition to democracy. This led to the approval of the Spanish Constitution of 1978 in a referendum, which established a constitutional monarchy. In 1981, Juan Carlos played a major role in preventing a coup that attempted to revert Spain to Francoist government in the King's name.

Juan Carlos (footballer, born 1990)

Juan Carlos Pérez López (born 30 March 1990), known as Juan Carlos, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Málaga CF on loan from Portuguese club S.C. Braga mainly as a left winger but also as a left back.

He is known as El Galgo de Boadilla (Greyhound of Boadilla) for his runs and speed.

Club career

Born in Madrid, Juan Carlos started his football career at the EFMO Boadilla academy, playing there 11 years from the age of six. In 2007, Real Madrid signed him to his youth teams.

After two years, Juan Carlos was promoted to Real Madrid Castilla, going on to appear in two full Segunda División B seasons with the team. His first goal with the reserves came on 8 November 2009, in a 4–2 home win against Gimnástica de Torrelavega; on 28 September 2010 he was called up for a UEFA Champions League group stage match against AJ Auxerre, but eventually did not leave the bench in the 1–0 away victory.

On 3 October 2010, Juan Carlos finally made his first appearance for the Merengues' main squad, playing 11 minutes in place of Ángel di María in a 6–1 La Liga home win against Deportivo de La Coruña. He added 32 games and three goals for the B-side, which eventually fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Juan Carlos (footballer, born 1965)

Juan Carlos Rodríguez Moreno (born 19 January 1965 in Puente Castro, León), known as Juan Carlos, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a left back.

Club career

During his career, Juan Carlos played for Real Valladolid (two spells, to kickstart and end his 15-year spell as a professional), Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona and Valencia CF. With Barça, he started and finished in the club's 1991–92 European Cup final win against U.C. Sampdoria, and was relatively used in three consecutive La Liga titles by the Catalans. He played 297 league games as a professional, all in the top level, scoring two goals – both for Valladolid.

In 2008 Carlos returned to Valladolid, working with the club in directorial capacities.

International career

Juan Carlos earned one cap for the Spanish national team, on 17 April 1991. He played the entire match in a 0–2 friendly loss with Romania in Cáceres.
