Plot: It is only a gun - not a common gun but its mystery is not the unusual manufacture but the fact that it is a dead man's gun. Three stories follow the fate of successive holders of this haunted weapon. The Great McDonacle is a second-rate trick shot artist; in his hands the gun cannot miss even the most difficult shots, but doesn't make him quite fast enough. Jack Fleetwood steals the gun from its sleeping owner; he can salt a mine with it and cheat an honest farmer by convincing him to buy this worthless mine, but the con man can be conned. Cole finds the gun on a skeleton; a fast draw becomes a reality, but tragedy comes to his brother. At the end, the gun is returned to the skeleton, waiting for its next victim.

Quotes:
Norbert Datry: A kingsnake eats nothing but other snakes... preferably rattlesnakes. That is his sole diet. You see, it would go against my nature to cheat an honest man. But the other kind... I sleep like a baby!
Jack Fleetwood: Did you ever go fishing, Norbert?::Norbert Datry: Sure, lots of times. I'm good at fishing.::Jack Fleetwood: All right. If you want to catch a fish, you have to think like one. You have to think, where would I be hiding? Gold mining is like that. You have to think like what you want to find... and ask yourself, "If I was gold, where would I be hiding" - and look there!
Jack Fleetwood: Try to understand, Norbert, finding gold isn't the hard part.::Norbert Datry: It's not?::Jack Fleetwood: No, the hard part is keeping it.
Harry McDonacle: You don't know it, but you're about to witness a legend being made.::Brittany: You look the same to me.
Cole: Maybe I am different. But I beat those men. It's not the gun... it's me.
Narrator: In the American West, a gun touched by evil passed from hand to hand, changing the lives of all who possessed it. As its legend grew, it became known as... "the dead man's gun".
Willy: Like I said before, Cole, ain't no good can come from a dead man's gun. Get rid of it! Throw it away!::Cole: For him, not me!
Jack Fleetwood: I cannot in good conscience allow myself to be party to this deception.::Palmer Lewis: How much?::Jack Fleetwood: I beg your pardon?::Palmer Lewis: How much is your conscience going to cost me?
Brittany: Aren't you supposed to be married?::Harry McDonacle: Forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest.
Brittany: What about you wife?::Harry McDonacle: What about her? She stuck with me when I was nobody. She has faith in me. She's kind... loyal.::Brittany: If that's all you want, Harry, why not get a dog?
