The day before leaving Lahore for Karachi we visit the Lahore Fort which has its origins in the XII century but was restored by the Moghul Emperors Jehangir, Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb. We were guided by three local experts (my father's cousins)! So here's a little lesson in culture and history for those interested :)

Moti Masjid (Punjabi, Urdu: موتی مسجد), one of the "Pearl Mosques", is a 17th century religious building located inside the Lahore Fort. It is a small, white marble structure built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, and is among his prominent extensions (such as Sheesh Mahal and Naulakha pavilion) to the Lahore Fort Complex.[1] The mosque is located on the western side of Lahore Fort, closer to Alamgiri Gate, the main entrance.

Lahore (Punjabi: لہور, Urdu: لاہور) is the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab and the second largest city in the country. With a rich history dating back over a millennium, Lahore is a main cultural centre of Pakistan. One of the most densely populated cities in the world, Lahore remains an economic, political, transportation, entertainment, and educational hub.
Lahore successively served as regional capital of the empires of the Shahi kingdoms in the 11th century, the Ghaznavids in the 12th century, the Ghurid State in the 12th and 13th centuries the Mughal Empire in the 16th century, the Sikh expansion in the early 19th century, and it was the capital of the Punjab region under the British Raj in the mid 19th and early 20th century. The traditional capital of Punjab for a thousand years, Lahore was the cultural center of the northern Indian subcontinent which extends from the eastern banks of the Indus River to New Delhi. Mughal structures such as the Badshahi Mosque, the Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens, and the mausolea of Jehangir and Nur Jehan are tourist attractions. Lahore is also home to many British colonial structures built in the Indo-Saracenic style, such as the Lahore High Court, the General Post Office, Lahore Museum and many older universities including the University of the Punjab. The Lahore Zoo, thought to be the fourth oldest in the world, is also situated here.

The Lahore Fort, locally referred to as Shahi Qila (Punjabi, Urdu: شاہی قلعہ) is citadel of the city of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. It is located in the northwestern corner of the Walled City of Lahore. The trapezoidal composition is spread over 20 hectares.
Origins of the fort go as far back as antiquity, however, the existing base structure was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar between 1556–1605 and was regularly upgraded by subsequent Mughal, Sikh and British rulers.It has two gates one is known as Alamgiri Gate build by Emperor Aurangzeb which opens towards Badshahi Mosque and other older one known as Maseeti (Punjabi language word means of Masjid) or Masjidi Gate which open towards Masti Gate Area of Walled City and was built by Emperor Akbar. Currently Alamgiri Gate is used as the principal entrance while Masti Gate is permanently closed .The fort manifests the rich traditions of Mughal architecture. Some of the famous sites inside the fort include: Sheesh Mahal, Alamgiri Gate, Naulakha pavilion, and Moti Masjid. In 1981, the fort was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Shalimar Gardens (Lahore).

It is a small, white marble structure built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, and is among his prominent extensions (such as Sheesh Mahal and Naulakha pavilion) to the Lahore Fort Complex.[1] The mosque is located on the western side of Lahore Fort, closer to Alamgiri Gate, the main entrance.

Egyptian Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said a terrorist attack was more likely to have taken down the missing EgyptAir aircraft early Thursday morning rather than technical failure, Gulf News Egypt reported. There were no known security concerns about passengers aboard the missing plane, but further checks are underway ... The plane was due to arrive at 3.05 a.m. local time....

MUZAFFARABAD. Amanullah Khan, the leader of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) died on Tuesday at the age of 85, from a chronic pulmonary disease. Khan was admitted to a health facility in Rawalpindi a week ago, and died at 8.30am ... He was the head of the JKLF, which he had raised in 1977 in the United Kingdom ... Khan was brought from Gilgit to the Lahore Fort for two months, where he was among those who faced the ‘third degree’ ... ....
