Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in the Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Pookode is a natural fresh water lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level. It is 15 km away from Kalpetta.
Panamaram, the rivulet which ultimately becomes Kabani River, originates from the Pookode lake. It is spread across an area of 8.5 hectares and with a maximum depth of 6.5 metres. Lying 3 km south of Vythiri town, the lake is one of the most popular tourist spots in Wayanad.
The lake has the shape of India's map. This perennial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills, is only one of its kinds in Kerala. Pethia pookodensis, is a species of cyprinid fish known to occur only in Pookode Lake. The lake has abundance of blue lotus and fresh water fishes. The forests surrounding the lake hold many wild animals, birds and flies.There are groups of Blue water lily flowers scattered here and there in the lake.
The lake is under the South Wayanad forest division and run by District Tourism promotion council. Boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts and spices emporium and fresh water aquarium are among the tourist attractions here.

Pookode Lake assumed to be in the shape of Indian Map. Back 25 years, Pookode Lake has been promoted as a tourist place by D.T.P.C Wayanad which is a Department of Tourism Government of Kerala. The Lake located is 300 meters away from the Bangalore - Calicut Highway. Another interesting lake in Wayanad is Karlad Lake. Pookode
Pookode is a village in Vythiri Taluk in Wayanad district of Kerala state in India. Pookode is known for Pookode Lake and as the headquarters of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.
Geography
Pookode is situated in the south west region of Wayanad district, about 14 km away from district headquarters Kalpetta. It lies on the Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway NH 766 (Old NH 212) between Kozhikode and Kalpetta. Pookode is 58 km from Kozhikode and is adjacent to the gateway of Wayanad, Lakkidi. Next to Pookode on the NH766 is Vythiri town.
Transport
Pookode is well connected by road. Frequent buses are available from Kozhikode and Kalpetta.
Nearest railway station is Kozhikode at a distance of 58 km.
Calicut International Airport at Karipur is located 86 km away from Pookode.
Education
The main campus of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is located at Pookode. Apart from the administrative offices of the university, two constituent colleges of the university function inside of this campus:

Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in the Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Pookode is a natural fresh water lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level. It is 15 km away from Kalpetta.
Panamaram, the rivulet which ultimately becomes Kabani River, originates from the Pookode lake. It is spread across an area of 8.5 hectares and with a maximum depth of 6.5 metres. Lying 3 km south of Vythiri town, the lake is one of the most popular tourist spots in Wayanad.
The lake has the shape of India's map. This perennial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills, is only one of its kinds in Kerala. Pethia pookodensis, is a species of cyprinid fish known to occur only in Pookode Lake. The lake has abundance of blue lotus and fresh water fishes. The forests surrounding the lake hold many wild animals, birds and flies.There are groups of Blue water lily flowers scattered here and there in the lake.
The lake is under the South Wayanad forest division and run by District Tourism promotion council. Boating facilities, children's park, handicrafts and spices emporium and fresh water aquarium are among the tourist attractions here.

Edakkal Caves are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats.
3.Thirunelli Temple
Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu on the side of Brahmagiri hill in Kerala. The temple is at an altitude of about 900m in north Wayanad in a valley surrounded by mountains and beautiful forests.
4.Ambukuthi mala
Ambukuthi mala is a mountain in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It is 12 km from Sulthan Bathery and near Ambalavayal. Three pre-historic caves are located at a height of 1,000 metres on Ambukuthi mala.

Bandipur National Park, an 874-sq.-km forested reserve in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, is known for its small population of tigers. Wayanad has seen a recent tourism boom and is now one of the most popular tourist destinations of Kerala. It is the only district in Kerala that shares its borders with both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states. For this reason, it is often visited by tourists from these states. The only Earth Dam in India is Banasura Sagar Dam and the only pine forest of Kerala is Chandanathode. Pulpally in Wayanad boasts of the only Luv Kush Temple in Kerala and Vythiri has the only mirror temple in Kerala which is a Jain temple. The edicts and caves of Ambukuthimala and other evidences state that the place is as old as the beginning of the New Age Civilisation.
