The Royal Malaysian Navy successfully test-fired its missiles during a week-long military exercise conducted off Sabah waters.
Two missiles, an Exocet MM40 and a Sea Skua, were fired by navy vessel KD Lekir and a Super Lynx helicopter respectively on Sunday (07/24/11).
Both missiles managed to destroy a surface target barge in the sea training exercise, which was conducted by six ships, two submarines and four helicopters.

Kasturi-class corvette
The Kasturi-class corvettes are two ships of the Royal Malaysian Navy, KD Kasturi (F25) and KD Lekir (F26). They were acquired in the mid-1980s. The two ships constitute the Malaysian Navy's 22nd Corvette Squadron, their homeport being Lumut. After about 25 years of service, they underwent an extensive modernisation known as Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) starting in 2009, enabling them to be employed for another 10 to 15 years. They have since been returned to active duty.
The two ships of the class are named after Hang Kasturi and Hang Lekir, two heroic figures from the Malay 15th-century epic narrative Hikayat Hang Tuah. They share this characteristic with the two Lekiu-class frigates KD Lekiu and KD Jebat, as well as the old frigate-turned-trainingship KD Hang Tuah, all of which are named after figures from the epic as well.
Characteristics
The class was ordered in February 1981, and built by the German Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) shipyard. Both ships were simultaneously launched on 14 May 1983 and commissioned on 15 August 1984. Two more were planned, but were never ordered. The Kasturi class is based on HDW's FS 1500 design. The two ships constitute the Royal Malaysian Navy's 22nd Corvette Squadron. Their homeport is Lumut at the west coast of the Malayan Peninsula, facing the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean.

Lamington Eco Challenge 2016
The Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush and rainforest walking trails as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock. Today we visit Hon Kee Famous Porridge to sample their famous raw fish porridge and cheong fun. The raw fish porridge is incredible- so light, and full of flavour. The raw fish arrives on a plate with ginger, spring onion and coriander and you cook it in the hot porridge at the table. It's a must eat! Hon Kee's cheong fun are equally good. Slippery, thin and covered in a chilli sauce, shallot oil, roasted sesames and a secret sauce! Delicious!
Our second stop is Shin Kee Beef Noodles for their famous beef noodles. Thomas samples the Rat's Tail Noodles- a stubby rice noodle. We find the beef outstanding. It's so full of beefy flavour!
Our third stop is the Air Mata Kucing stall which sells a refreshing, cooling drink made up of winter melon, luo hon guo and longan.
And finally we visit Bunn Choon Egg Tarts, a family business which has been around since the 1800's!! The egg tarts (original, charcoal and green tea) are some of the best we've ever had. The egg custard is wobbly and almost savoury in flavour. The pastry is flaky and so 'buttery' (it's made with pork lard). A must visit!

Thai food markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food while you travel in Thailand. There are loads of Thai food markets and night market all over Thailand, you’re never far from one. At the markets you'll find so many Thai dishes on offer and the foods here are cheap, and so tasty! And in case you’re worried, eating Thai street food is perfectly safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it nearly daily for nearly 5 years in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. Rediscovering Petaling Street (Chinatown) Jalan Sultan/Jalan Hang Lekir - 7
Visiting Kuala Lumpur for the first time and you want to taste something great in a foreign place but you don’t know where or rather you have no clue what it is to try? Or maybe you have tried it before but just don’t know what it is that you tried? Maybe you have heard of Petaling Street or maybe you haven’t but regardless of it, take this opportunity to head on over to Petaling Street to experience the heritage food walk. Day or night, visitors continually come to Petaling Street to either eat within the celebrated street foods here or to acquire some fantastic deals on items marketed here. Petaling Street is definitely the shoppers’ heaven if you’d like to discount your path for some affordable items.
Evenings are when the surge of life is at its peak. Motor vehicles all beat a hasty retreat after 6pm as stalls take over the whole street. Strolling around pre-war shop houses within the street, you will end up spoiled for option with a wide selection of traditional Chinese food which has withstood the test of time. The (in)famous Chinatown night market springs to life and the crowd starts to swell with hundreds of sightseers, gawkers and bargain hunters. From the start of Jalan Sultan (from the Kotaraya building side) till the end of it which is near where the MRT construction is on-going, you’ll be spoilt for taste of the weave of aroma of roasted ducks, claypot chicken rice, roasted pork, steam boat (uncooked food…meat, veggies, fishballs , where you dip it all into a steaming hot container of water), baked/grilled fish, burgers, Hokkien fried noodles, Bak Kut Teh, and the list goes on… As for drinks, you name it they have it, from soft drinks, fruit juices to BEERS!!
As you walk along the street, stroll down Jalan Hang Lekir and soak up the food, snacks or tidbits. You will notice more rows of tables all filled with foreign tourists sipping on their beers and lapping up their food while some just sit with their drinks a watch the world go by. There are also quite a number of quaint budget hotels for back packers, providing sufficient tourist information, Wi-Fi and some of these even include breakfast. The atmosphere on these two streets is anything but quiet. Feel free to appreciate your food searching at Petaling Street from daybreak to dark; simply because several foods stalls are just open up in the morning while some only during the night. When you may go shopping for anything at all from gems and incense to toys and t-shirts, the real attraction of the evening market is in roaming all over coupled with taking pleasure in its scenery, noises and vitality. So, move on, get bold – run into Petaling Street while on an empty stomach and an adventurous energy.
One thing’s for sure and this applies to Malaysians as well…

The Lamington Eco Challenge is a trail running event featuring some tough terrain in the Scenic Rim Hinterland in South East Queensland, including four wheel drive tracks, grassy paddocks, bush and rainforest walking trails as well as having to negotiate creeks, gates, cattle grids and the potential wandering livestock.
These events start and finish at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, Villas and Lost World Spa located in the Lamington National Park. Competitors will have the option of 3 events. A 42 km Marathon or a 21 km Half Marathon distance or the FARA 8.5 km Fun Run on two consecutive days. To be in the running for age or category winnings you need to compete in the same event on both days. However there is a team option, where one person competes on one day and your team member competes on the other day. This will suit Mums and Dads with kids. There is also the option to compete in a single event, however this will not place you into a set category for overall placings.
You do not need to be an elite athlete or champion runner to compete in the Lamington Eco Challenge. There is a 9 hour cut off on each day for the 42 and 21 km events, so there is plenty of time for anyone who has trained to have a go.
The Lamington Eco Challenge have teamed up with First Aid Accident & Emergency to offer one of the safest trail running experiences to our competitors. We are also now offering specials on First Aid Training and Supplies to all of our competitors. Here are the specials for training.
- CPR $40
· First Aid ( inc CPR and Free first aid kit) $90
To book the courses and receive the special rates, you will need to call the FAAE office on 07 55205068 and mention this webpage.
What makes this event very different is that it plays out over two days; you get to sleep the night in a cozy warm bed. Will that make it easier to compete the second day or harder? O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, Villas and Lost World Spa known as a nature lover’s paradise would be the perfect place to stay. It will fill quickly so if you decide to stay at O'Reilly's you must book early. There is also the Green Mountains Camping Area and other various accommodations in the area. See accommodation page.
