Puri District is a coastal District on the eastern part of Odisha, India. This District needs no introduction, being the abode of Lord Vishnu, most popularly known as Lord Jagannath. This District derives its name from the heritage city of Puri, one of the four pilgrimage centres of India. Covering an area of 3051 sq/kms, the District may be divided into two dissimilar natural divisions-the Littoral tract and the Level alluvial tract. It is also located at 19’ 28 N Latitude 26’ 35 N, 84’ 29 E. Longitude 86’ 25 E. Its altitude is at sea level. The population of the District is 15, 02, 682 (as per 2001 Census) and the density of population is 431 people per sq. km. The rural population is 12, 98, 654 and the urban, 2, 04, 028. SC population is 2, 73, 917 and ST is 4, 482. The District is quite literate in the sense that its literates number 1, 024, 523 as against the illiterates numbering 4, 78, 159. Paddy, wheat, mung, biri, kulthi and groundnut are some of the major crops grown in the District.
The number of rivers flowing through the District helps in sustaining the agriculture. Being in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, this District has tropical climate. The summers are from March to June, monsoons from June to September and winters are from October to February. The minimum temperature of the District is approximately 16. 45 degrees Celsius and the maximum 33. 9 degrees Celsius.
Handicraft and cottage industries of this District is famous the world over, its original source being the temple craft of Lord Jagannath and the Sun Temple at Konark. The rich traditional culture and heritage of the District gives a boost to this industry. The important products of this industry are in applique, stone carving, patta chitra, wood carving, modern patch work, terracotta, bell metal, and sea shell items etc. The District Industries Centre, on its part has imparted training and upgraded the skill of the traditional artisan families and other economically weaker sections of the people, thus improving their per capita income. It has introduced many promotional schemes and also promotes handicraft training schools and coir training centers etc. There are also a number of small scale industries running in this District.
Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Rastriya Sanskrit Santhan Deemed University, Sadasiv Parishar, Gangadhar Mohapatra Law College and Biju Pattnaik National Steel Institute are some of the leading educational institutions of this District. Puri District has given birth to a number of eminent personalities-both past and present. The past personalities included Jayadeva, Gobardhan Acharya, Sridhara Swamy, Jagannath Das, Raya Ramananda Pattanayak, Kanhai Khuntia, Jayadeva-II, Kavi Chintamani Mishra, Balaram Das, Jagannath Das, Bhakta Kavi Salbeg, Dinakrushna Das and Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das. Noted present personality who has brought laurels for the District both in India and abroad is Padma Bhusan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. His contribution towards Odissi dance is remarkable.

The Ratha Yatra, or the Festival of the Chariots is perhaps the oldest continuously celebrated spiritual festival in the world. As far back as human records and memory extend, the splendidly decorated chariots of Jagannatha ('Master of the Universe' in Sanskrit) have rolled each summer in the town of Puri on the Bay of Bengal in India, to the delight of millions of joyous pilgrims. Their towering red-and-blue silken canopies rise into the sky as drums and cymbals resound in joyous celebrations. People young and old, their eyes bright with excitement sing and dance in the street, as if swimming in an ocean of overwhelming happiness.

Bay of Bengal
The Bay of Bengal, the largest bay in the world, forms the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean. Roughly triangular in shape, it is bordered mostly by India and Sri Lanka to the west, Bangladesh to the north, and Myanmar (Burma) and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the east.
The Bay of Bengal occupies an area of 2,172,000 square kilometres (839,000 sq mi). A number of large rivers – the Ganges and its tributaries such as the Padma and Hooghly, the Brahmaputra and its tributaries such as the Jamuna and Meghna, other rivers such as the Irrawaddy River, Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna and Kaveri flow into the Bay of Bengal. Among the important ports are Chennai, Chittagong, Kolkata, Mongla, Paradip, Tuticorin, Visakhapatnam and Yangon.

Etymology
In ancient Hindu scriptures, this water body is referred to as 'Mahodadhi' (Sanskrit: महोदधि, lit. great water receptacle) while it appears as Sinus Gangeticus or Gangeticus Sinus, meaning "Gulf of the Ganges", in ancient maps.

Jayadeva
Jayadeva (Sanskrit: [dʒəjəˈd̪eːʋə]) (odia:ଜୟଦେବ) a Sanskrit poet c. 1200. He is most known for his composition, the epic poem Gita Govinda, which depicts the divine love of Krishna, and his consort, Radha. This poem, which presents the view that Radha is greater than Hari, is considered an important text in the Bhakti movement of Hinduism.
Biography
A Brahmin by birth, the date and place of Jayadeva's birth are uncertain (see Jayadeva birth controversy). Based on a reading of the text of his work, either the village of the village of Kenduli Sasan in Odisha or the village of Jayadeva Kenduli in Bengal are likely candidates though another Kenduli in Mithila is also a possibility. Recent studies show scholars still disagree on the issue. Jayadeva, a wanderer, probably visited Puri at some point and there, according to tradition, he married a dancer named Padmavati though that is not supported by early commentators and modern scholars.
The poet's parents were named Bhojadeva and Ramadevi. From temple inscriptions it is now known that Jayadeva received his education in Sanskrit poetry from a place called Kurmapataka, possibly near Konark in Odisha.

Ratha-Yatra
Ratha Yatra is a festival that involves moving deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshana on a chariot (called a ratha or rotho). In Sanskrit, Ratha means "chariot", and Yatra means "journey"; the festival usually involves an annual procession (journey) of a deity's idols. Other names for the festival include ratha jatra or chariot festival.
Notable ratha yatras include the Ratha Yatra of Puri, the Dhamrai Ratha Yatra and the Ratha Yatra of Mahesh. The festival originated in Puri, Odisha. The English word juggernaut was originated from Jagannath that is related to the massive and unstoppable "ratha" carrying Jaggannath. Accidents involving people being crushed under the wheels of the chariot have also occurred a few times.

It is also located at 19’ 28 N Latitude 26’ 35 N, 84’ 29 E. Longitude 86’ 25 E. Its altitude is at sea level. The population of the District is 15, 02, 682 (as per 2001 Census) and the density of population is 431 people per sq. km. The rural population is 12, 98, 654 and the urban, 2, 04, 028. SC population is 2, 73, 917 and ST is 4, 482. The District is quite literate in the sense that its literates number 1, 024, 523 as against the illiterates numbering 4, 78, 159. Paddy, wheat, mung, biri, kulthi and groundnut are some of the major crops grown in the District.
The number of rivers flowing through the District helps in sustaining the agriculture. Being in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, this District has tropical climate. The summers are from March to June, monsoons from June to September and winters are from October to February. The minimum temperature of the District is approximately 16. 45 degrees Celsius and the maximum 33. 9 degrees Celsius.
Handicraft and cottage industries of this District is famous the world over, its original source being the temple craft of Lord Jagannath and the Sun Temple at Konark. The rich traditional culture and heritage of the District gives a boost to this industry. The important products of this industry are in applique, stone carving, patta chitra, wood carving, modern patch work, terracotta, bell metal, and sea shell items etc. The District Industries Centre, on its part has imparted training and upgraded the skill of the traditional artisan families and other economically weaker sections of the people, thus improving their per capita income. It has introduced many promotional schemes and also promotes handicraft training schools and coir training centers etc. There are also a number of small scale industries running in this District.
Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Rastriya Sanskrit Santhan Deemed University, Sadasiv Parishar, Gangadhar Mohapatra Law College and Biju Pattnaik National Steel Institute are some of the leading educational institutions of this District. Puri District has given birth to a number of eminent personalities-both past and present. As far back as human records and memory extend, the splendidly decorated chariots of Jagannatha ('Master of the Universe' in Sanskrit) have rolled each summer in the town of Puri on the Bay of Bengal in India, to the delight of millions of joyous pilgrims. Their towering red-and-blue silken canopies rise into the sky as drums and cymbals resound in joyous celebrations. People young and old, their eyes bright with excitement sing and dance in the street, as if swimming in an ocean of overwhelming happiness.
Over forty years ago, Hare Krishna devotees brought this tradition to the streets of over 100 big and small cities around the world, including Tokyo, Dublin, Belfast, Birmingham, London, Budapest, New York, Montreal, Paris, Moscow, Singapore, Toronto, Antwerp, Kuala Lumpur, Durban, Sydney, Mumbai, New Delhi, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Andaman Archipelago is an oceanic continuation of the Burmese Arakan Yoma range in the North and of the Indonesian Archipelago in the South. It has 325 islands which cover an area of 6,408 km2 (2,474 sq mi), with the Andaman Sea to the east between the islands and the coast of Burma. North Andaman Island is 285 kilometres (177 mi) south of Burma, although a few smaller Burmese islands are closer, including the three Coco Islands.
The climate is typical of tropical islands of similar latitude. It is always warm, but with sea-breezes. Rainfall is irregular, but usually dry during the north-east, and very wet during the south-west, monsoons.

Cox's Bazar Sea Beach is the longest unbroken golden sandy beach in the world. This area of the bay of bengal is free from shark, which make cox's bazar sea beach as one of the most safest sea bathing beach in the world.
Cox's Bazar is the tourism capital of Bangladesh, it is known for its wide sandy beach, which is the world's longest unbroken natural sandy sea beach, which is 120 km long with a gentle slope. This southernmost district city located 150 km south of Chittagong, adjacent to Myanmar border in southeastern side.
It is further characterized by the location in the coastal area. The annual average temperature in Cox's Bazar remains at about a maximum of 34.8 °C and a minimum of 16.1 °C. The average amount of rainfall at app.4,285 mm.
The main attraction of Cox's Bazar is the long sandy beach that stretches from the mouth of the Bakkhali River going all the way to Teknaf. Although commonly known as Cox's Bazar beach, it stretches far beyond the area designated as Cox's Bazar town.
Cox’s Bazar, mostly famous for its beautiful sea beach and the sunset, has several other attractions, including:
Laboni Beach: This is the main beach of Cox's Bazar and is considered the main beach due to the fact that it is closest to the town. Close to the beach, there are hundreds of small shops selling souvenirs and beach accessories to the tourists.
Himchari: Located about 18 km south of Cox’s Bazar along the sea beach, is a nice place for the picnic and film shooting. This picnic spot is famous for its waterfalls. The road to Himchari runs by the open sea on one side and hills on the other, which makes the journey to Himchari very attractive. It’s another attraction is the Christmas tree.
Enani Beach: Located 35 km south of Cox’s Bazar, this white sandy beach is located within Ukhia Thana. The beach is famous for golden sand and clean shark free water, which is ideal for sea bathing. Most tourists prefer to come down here for relaxing because it is free from the crowd of tourists that is usually seen at the Laboni beach.

SC population is 2, 73, 917 and ST is 4, 482. The District is quite literate in the sense that its literates number 1, 024, 523 as against the illiterates numbering 4, 78, 159. Paddy, wheat, mung, biri, kulthi and groundnut are some of the major crops grown in the District.
The number of rivers flowing through the District helps in sustaining the agriculture. Being in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, this District has tropical climate. The summers are from March to June, monsoons from June to September and winters are from October to February. The minimum temperature of the District is approximately 16. 45 degrees Celsius and the maximum 33. 9 degrees Celsius.
Handicraft and cottage industries of this District is famous the world over, its original source being the temple craft of Lord Jagannath and the Sun Temple at Konark. The rich traditional culture and heritage of the District gives a boost to this industry. The important products of this industry are in applique, stone carving, patta chitra, wood carving, modern patch work, terracotta, bell metal, and sea shell items etc. The District Industries Centre, on its part has imparted training and upgraded the skill of the traditional artisan families and other economically weaker sections of the people, thus improving their per capita income. It has introduced many promotional schemes and also promotes handicraft training schools and coir training centers etc. There are also a number of small scale industries running in this District.
Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Rastriya Sanskrit Santhan Deemed University, Sadasiv Parishar, Gangadhar Mohapatra Law College and Biju Pattnaik National Steel Institute are some of the leading educational institutions of this District. Puri District has given birth to a number of eminent personalities-both past and present. "Jaya Jagannatha" by Mantra Choir with Jayadev, in the Vedic Village for Ratha Yatra, Sunday the 12th of February 2012 at the Catani Gardens.
This Ratha Yatra was held as a part of the St Kilda Festival.
The Ratha Yatra, or the Festival of the Chariots is perhaps the oldest continuously celebrated spiritual festival in the world. As far back as human records and memory extend, the splendidly decorated chariots of Jagannatha ('Master of the Universe' in Sanskrit) have rolled each summer in the town of Puri on the Bay of Bengal in India, to the delight of millions of joyous pilgrims. Their towering red-and-blue silken canopies rise into the sky as drums and cymbals resound in joyous celebrations. People young and old, their eyes bright with excitement sing and dance in the street, as if swimming in an ocean of overwhelming happiness.
Over forty years ago, Hare Krishna devotees brought this tradition to the streets of over 100 big and small cities around the world, including Tokyo, Dublin, Belfast, Birmingham, London, Budapest, New York, Montreal, Paris, Moscow, Singapore, Toronto, Antwerp, Kuala Lumpur, Durban, Sydney, Mumbai, New Delhi, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Ever since the days of the Pandhari Bhajan group established by Swami among his friends when he was a small child, the Sai Bhajan movement has spread world over, transforming the lives of millions to follow more closely the paths of devotion and spirituality. In Prasanthi Nilayam, bhajans have and continue to be an integral part of the daily schedule, and Bhagavan Himself was extremely fond of listening to and even singing multiple bhajans. In the final part, Swami gives darshan to devotees in Sai Ramesh Hall, Brindavan, on February 14, 1993, while bhajans are sung by the Brindavan bhajan group. Swami is very much involved in each bhajan session and energizes all of the devotees present. All copyrights belong to Mr. James Redmond, who taped several films of and about our beloved Lord in the 1990s.
