The Machine: The Truth Behind Teachers Unions
America's public education system is failing. We're spending more money on education but not getting better results for our children. That's because the machine that runs the K-12 education system isn't designed to produce better schools. It's designed to produce more money for unions and more donations for politicians. For decades, teachers' unions have been among our nation's largest political donors. As Reason Foundation's Lisa Snell has noted, the National Education Association (NEA) alone spent $40 million on the 2010 election cycle (source: reason.org As the country's largest teachers union, the NEA is only one cog in the infernal machine that robs parents of their tax dollars and students of their futures. Students, teachers, parents, and hardworking Americans are all victims of this political machine--a system that takes money out of taxpayers' wallets and gives it to union bosses, who put it in the pockets of politicians. Our kids deserve better. "The Machine" is 4:17 minutes. Written and narrated by Evan Coyne Maloney. Produced by the Moving Picture Institute in partnership with Reason TV. MSNBC Host VS. Gun Advocate Over NRA's Ad Targeting Obama's Children Vs. Other GOP Presidents
Gun Owners of America spokesperson Erich Pratt joined MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell where they got into a HEATED DEBATE over a recent National Rifle Association advertisement which declared President Barack Obama was a hypocrite for pursuing new gun laws while his children were protected by armed guards. He says that the media is outraged when the children of American presidents are politicized when they are Democrats, and there is a double standard applied to the children of Republican presidents. Andrea Mitchell admitted : "Well, they can be infringed, because the First Amendment is infringed, I have to obey all sorts of regulations from the FCC, there are things we can't say in a crowded theater, so every right also carries with it responsibilities and obligations."

Teaching Creationism in Schools
Creationists all over the country are trying to push creationism into schools and package it as science under the guise of Intelligent Design. The National Center for Science Education is here to put out those fires and keep religion out of our public school science classrooms. We are here to call out Ben Stein and his ludicrous ideas that are the spotlight of his new movie Expelled, about Intelligent Design. Expelled is a manipulation of lies that repackages religious creationism as Intelligent Design and teaches it as science in public schools. We must stand up to keep religion out of our public schools' science education. Go to www.ExpelledExposed.com to find out more!

AMERICAN TEACHER: Official Trailer
AMERICAN TEACHER is the feature-length documentary produced and directed by Academy Award--winning filmmaker Vanessa Roth; produced by Nínive Calegari, co-founder of the literacy non-profit 826 National, and best-selling author Dave Eggers; and narrated by Academy Award-winner Matt Damon. AMERICAN TEACHER chronicles the stories of four teachers - Erik Benner, Jonathan Dearman, Jamie Fidler, and Rhena Jasey - who live and work in disparate urban and rural areas of the country. By following these teachers as they reach different milestones in their careers, the film tells the deeper story of the teaching profession in America today. The film shows us the experience of these four young teachers as they recognize the importance of what they do, and how much they love what they do, but ask: can I afford to continue to teach?

No National Standards: Strength or Weakness for Schools in US?
This is the VOA Special English Education Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http What American students are expected to learn has long been different from state to state. We talked last time about the tradition of local control of schools. To some people, the lack of national academic standards is an important limit on federal powers. But others say all it does is limit American competitiveness in a world that is becoming more educated. Now, state governors and chief school officers are leading a movement toward what are known as the "common core state standards." These list content in math and English language arts that students are expected to learn each year from kindergarten to high school. In the past year, most of the fifty states have adopted these standards. That speed is partly explained by President Obama's Race to the Top competition. Accepting the standards helped states that competed last year for federal money for school reform efforts. Patrick Murray has been an elected member of the school governing board in Bradford, Maine, for four years. The public school system is small, just one thousand two hundred students from five towns. In April, Maine became the forty-second state to approve the common core standards. Mr. Murray says he does not trust supporters of these standards. "They say this is a state-led effort," but he thinks the goal is national control of education. He says many states have adopted the common core standards only because they were ...
