Al Shorta 4-1 Al Quwa Al Jawiya - الشرطة 4-1 القوة الجوية
An hat-trick of headers from
Jean Michel N'Lend secured an emphatic 4-1 victory over fierce rivals
Al Quwa Al Jawiya.
The game almost started with a cracker of a goal, as former
Al Shorta defender Ayad Sadir crashed a long-range shot against the bar.
Hussein Abdul Wahid and Jean Michel N'Lend each had a long-range shot saved by the Jawiya 'keeper and Al Shorta scored an offside goal in a great start to the derby in
Al Shaab Stadium. The corner that was the result of Jean Michel N'Lend's shot was passed and then crossed in for the big Cameroonian to skillfully head the ball into the back of the net to send most of the stadium wild and put Al Shorta a goal up.
Jawiya equalised in controversial circumstances.
Innocent Awoa completed a sloppy pass to 'keeper Ali
Husain who, because of the on-rushing Jawiya forward ready to snatch the ball from him, had to push the ball away. However, the referee incorrectly saw this as a pass-back (and booked Ali Husain) and
Iraq national team hero
Hammadi Ahmed brilliantly converted the resulting free-kick to level the scores.
Amjad Kalaf and Muslem
Mubarak were very dangerous on the two wings and with the help of
Ahmed Fadhel's brilliant midfield skill, Al Shorta had the upper-hand. Their chances resulted in another goal for N'
Lend, as he converted a fantastic cross with his head and Al Shorta went 2-1 up just before half-time.
The second-half began just as the first did, with a long-range shot from Jawiya almost resulting in a goal. This time Bashar
Resen was the man who shot the ball, and Ali Husain brilliantly saved it. Then came number three for Al Shorta, with N'Lend finding
Muhammed Faisel
with a great ball, who found Amjad Kalaf and his cross was headed into the net by Muslem Mubarak.
Jawiya missed their chance to get back in the game when
Ali Saad's pass across goal was mis-hit by Hammadi Ahmed (in front of an open goal) and the resulting effort by Bashar Resen went just wide. Jean Michel N'Lend almost grabbed his hat-trick earlier than he did but his effort from 20 yards was saved by the Jawiya 'keeper.
The first of two red cards came in the 75th minute when
Muhammad Abdulzahra received a second yellow card for unnecessarily elbowing Jean Michel N'Lend. The resulting free-kick was accurately crossed in by Muhammed Faisel and for the third time in the game, Jean Michel N'Lend headed the ball into the goal to put Al Shorta 4-1 up. This goal wrote N'Lend's name into the history books as he became the first non-Iraqi to score an hat-trick in the
Iraqi League.
Jawiya had a penalty shout correctly ruled out before Ali Husain received a second yellow card for time-wasting and was sent off, causing
Mohammed Gassid to be subbed on. Hussein Kareem was also subbed on and almost scored but the full-time whistle blew to signal the end of an historic game in Iraqi League history, which was dersevedly won 4-1 by the
Police. This win sends Al Shorta into second place, behind
Duhok on goal
difference.
