Smriti Zubin Irani(Hindi: स्मृति ईरानी , Punjabi: ਸਮ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਇਰਾਨੀ, Bengali: স্মৃতি ইরানি; born 23 March 1976) is an Indian television actress, producer and politician, who has appeared in the Hindi television soap opera, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, in which she played the main character of Tulsi Mihir Virani.
Irani also runs People for Change, which an organization working to provide drinking water to the poor in India’s remote areas. She will soon be seen in director Tapan Saha's Bengali film Amrita along with veteran actor Victor Banerjee.
Smriti was born in Delhi, in a Punjabi – Bengali family, and was eldest amongst three sisters. Her father who owned courier company is a Punjabi and mother is a Bengali.
In January 2001, Smriti married her childhood friend Zubin Irani. In the year 2001, Smriti gave birth to their child Zohr. In September 2003 Smriti gave birth to their daughter Zoish. Also, Smriti is a stepmother to Shanelle who is Irani's daughter from his previous marriage.
On April 2007, Smriti decided to quit Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi due to a fall-out between her and producer, Ekta Kapoor. Many opined that conflicts between Smriti's commitment towards Kyunki and her ambitious drive to seek an independent identity via her home productions caused friction between herself and Ekta. The final nail in the coffin was thought to be over the issue of finances between Ekta and Smriti, where the latter demanded a raise and the former rejected. Last episode that feature Smriti was telecasted on 6 June 2007, where she dies in a truck accident. After a long hiatus of 11 months, amidst the decline of Kyunki's viewership, Ekta Kapoor got back Smriti into her role in a highly publicized affair, where they both buried their hatchet with each other in a public appearance. She re-appeared from 10 April 2008 in a special episode.
