A Dangerous Trip - Pattaya to Sihanoukville

In this episode i go from Pattaya to Sihanoukville again. I first visited Sihanoukville around 2008 and then again in 2010. It is one of my favourite holiday destinations and i am very excitied to be back in Sihanoukville Cambodia. Unfortunately the trip got off to a bad start. The mini van driver from Pattaya to Trat bus station was an absoloutley f***ing c**khead. The roads were very wet and it was raining, yet this a%%hole was driving like a maniac at high speed and overtaking cars, weaving in and out of traffic. I have feared for my life a few times in my existence but none more than on this trip. At those speeds in those driving conditions it does not take much for a crappy old van driving at high speed to lose control. My thought turned to my family back home and especially my 2 nephews who i am missing the most on this trip. Who is this low life scumbag to risk my life and cause so much pain to my family in the result of an accident due to his stupidity. This is the most angry and frustrated i have ever been whilst travelling. From Trat bus station to the Kat Lek Thai-Cambodia border i told the driver if he drives careflluy i will give him a good tip. He honoured my offer and i gave him 150 baht. I think he would of driven carefully anyway. He was an older guy and there was a thai family in the van with me including a small child. At the border i had to apy 1600 baht for my visa. If i had USD it wuld of cost $35 or $37 USD. One of the guys in the mini van negotiated a private taxi from the Cabodian border to Sihanoukville for $60 USD. I would of bargained alot harder, but there was 3 of us so it only cost $20USD each. This trip started out ok, until we got onto the main rain in Sihanoukville. This road is 2 lanes and is used by heavy load truch, buses and generaly public. This was another dangerous trip. It is a free for all. The drivers are so dumb that they overtake on corners. I am amazed the death toll on this road is not 100 times more considering the way they drive. Agagin, i was shitting myself on this journey. I was so happy to arrive in Sihanoukville alive. I will never accept that again. There must be a better way, even if i have to pay an extra $50-$100 for the security of safety i will pay it. It is better to arrive late than dead on time.
