Sequoia National Park's Giant Forest is home to five of the ten biggest trees on earth, including the General Sherman Tree, which at more than 36 feet wide at the base and a staggering 275 ft tall is an absolute titan.
But as incredible as it is to marvel at General Sherman's stature, it would be a huge mistake to pass up the opportunity to explore the more secluded and secretive giants hidden in the forest.
It's impossible to select only one trail to highlight: The Congress and Big Trees trails, as well as the trek to the summit of Moro Rock, are among the area's most popular hikes. Having a sense of where your compass is set, and then breaking it down into little steps – knowing they will change over time, but not losing sight – that’s what you need to build an organization.” Michael Moritz, partner at Sequoia Capital, visited campus for View From The Top and shared what he learned as a journalist covering Silicon Valley in the 1980’s and later as an investor within it.
During Moritz’s 33 years in venture capital, Sequoia Capital has provided early funding to tech companies now considered giants (LinkedIn, KAYAK, Google, and Zappos among them). Moritz also advised students on what he looks for in early companies. “To me, the best investments are always those that don’t fit into a convenient bucket,” he said. “What isn’t obvious becomes something really interesting. Look out for the unexpected.”

Johnny Sequoyah Friedenberg (born October 25, 2002) is an American child actress, best known for her role as Bo Adams on the NBC television series Believe.
Life and career
Sequoyah is from Boise, Idaho, where she was introduced to acting at age eight.She lived for a year in Tehran(Iran) In 2013 and early 2014, she filmed roles in Ass Backwards, Plastic Jesus, and Unicorns. She also appears in Wind Walkers and Among Ravens, both directed by her father, Russell Friedenberg, and produced by her mother, Heather Rae. She also starred on the NBC television series Believe. Sequoyah resides in Los Angeles with her family. 2014 starred in the American Native settled Thriller film Wind Walkers.

Sequoyah
Sequoyah (ᏍᏏᏉᏯ Ssiquoya, as he signed his name, or ᏎᏉᏯ Se-quo-ya, as his name is often spelled today in Cherokee) (c. 1770–1843), named in English George Gist or George Guess, was a Cherokee silversmith. In 1821 he completed his independent creation of a Cherokee syllabary, making reading and writing in Cherokee possible. This was one of the very few times in recorded history that a member of a pre-literate people independently created an effective writing system, (another example being Shong Lue Yang). After seeing its worth, the people of the Cherokee Nation rapidly began to use his syllabary and officially adopted it in 1825. Their literacy rate quickly surpassed that of surrounding European-American settlers.
Early life
Sequoyah's heroic status has led to several competing accounts of his life that are speculative, contradictory, or fabricated. As noted by John B. Davis, there were very few primary documents describing facts of Sequoyah's life. Some anecdotes were passed down orally, but these often conflict or are vague about times and places.

State of Sequoyah
The State of Sequoyah was a proposed state to be established from the Indian Territory in the eastern part of present-day Oklahoma. In 1905, faced by proposals to end their tribal governments, Native Americans of the Five Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory proposed to create a state as a means to retain control of their lands. Their intention was to have a state under Native American constitution and rule. The proposed state was to be named in honor of Sequoyah, the Cherokee who created a writing system in 1825 for the Cherokee language.
Background
From 1890, the land that now forms the State of Oklahoma was made up of the "Twin Territories:" Oklahoma Territory to the west, and the Indian Territory to the east. The Indian Territory, as its name suggests, had a large Native American population, but European-American settlers had also continued to arrive. The territory had been reduced by required land cessions after the Civil War; land runs; and through other treaties with the United States. In the 1900 US Census, Native Americans composed 13.4 percent of the population in the future state. In 1905, the Five Civilized Tribes had a total of about 60,000 persons in the Indian Territory out of a total population of 600,000.

But as incredible as it is to marvel at General Sherman's stature, it would be a huge mistake to pass up the opportunity to explore the more secluded and secretive giants hidden in the forest.
It's impossible to select only one trail to highlight: The Congress and Big Trees trails, as well as the trek to the summit of Moro Rock, are among the area's most popular hikes. But you'd be doing yourself a huge favor by taking a couple of days and exploring the lesser-known reaches of the Giant Forest.
Perhaps the best thing about the Giant Forest is its accessibility. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer, restricted to a wheelchair or somewhere in between, the Giant Forest has trails for you.
Stay on official trails and durable surfaces to help preserve vegetation, Do Not Climb Trees, take only pictures and leave no trace. These forests are priceless. Help preserve them for future generations.

Having a sense of where your compass is set, and then breaking it down into little steps – knowing they will change over time, but not losing sight – that’s what you need to build an organization.” Michael Moritz, partner at Sequoia Capital, visited campus for View From The Top and shared what he learned as a journalist covering Silicon Valley in the 1980’s and later as an investor within it.
During Moritz’s 33 years in venture capital, Sequoia Capital has provided early funding to tech companies now considered giants (LinkedIn, KAYAK, Google, and Zappos among them). Moritz also advised students on what he looks for in early companies. “To me, the best investments are always those that don’t fit into a convenient bucket,” he said. “What isn’t obvious becomes something really interesting. Look out for the unexpected.”

Sequoia National Park's Giant Forest is home to five of the ten biggest trees on earth, including the General Sherman Tree, which at more than 36 feet wide at the base and a staggering 275 ft tall is an absolute titan.
But as incredible as it is to marvel at General Sherman's stature, it would be a huge mistake to pass up the opportunity to explore the more secluded and secretive giants hidden in the forest.

“You can talk in a grand fashion about a 20-year plan, but you also have to work on what ‘this afternoon’ brings. Having a sense of where your compass is set, and then breaking it down into little steps – knowing they will change over time, but not losing sight – that’s what you need to build an organization.” Michael Moritz, partner at Sequoia Capital, visited campus for View From The Top and shared what he learned as a journalist covering Silicon Valley in the 1980’s and later as an investor within it.
During Moritz’s 33 years in venture capital, Sequoia Capital has provided early funding to tech companies now considered giants (LinkedIn, KAYAK, Google, and Zappos among them). Moritz also advised students on what he looks for in early companies. “To me, the best investments are always those that don’t fit into a convenient bucket,” he said. “What isn’t obvious becomes something really interesting. Look out for the unexpected.”

Johnny Sequoyah Friedenberg (born October 25, 2002) is an American child actress, best known for her role as Bo Adams on the NBC television series Believe.
Life and career
Sequoyah is from Boise, Idaho, where she was introduced to acting at age eight.She lived for a year in Tehran(Iran) In 2013 and early 2014, she filmed roles in Ass Backwards, Plastic Jesus, and Unicorns. She also appears in Wind Walkers and Among Ravens, both directed by her father, Russell Friedenberg, and produced by her mother, Heather Rae. She also starred on the NBC television series Believe. Sequoyah resides in Los Angeles with her family. 2014 starred in the American Native settled Thriller film Wind Walkers.
