Moonlight

Moonlight is the light that reaches Earth from the Moon, consisting mostly of sunlight, with some starlight and earthlight reflected from those portions of its surface which the Sun's light strikes.

Illumination

The intensity of moonlight varies greatly depending on the lunar cycle but even the full Moon typically provides only about 0.1 lux illumination. When the Moon is viewed at high altitude at tropical latitudes, the illuminance can reach 0.26 lux. The full Moon is about 1,000,000 times fainter than the Sun.

The color of moonlight, particularly near full Moon, appears bluish to the human eye compared to most artificial light sources. This is because of the Purkinje effect - the light is not actually tinted blue, and although moonlight is often referred to as "silvery" it has no inherent silvery quality. The Moon's albedo is 0.136, meaning only 13.6% of sunlight incident on the Moon is reflected. Moonlight generally hampers astronomical viewing, so astronomers usually avoid making observations near full Moon.

Moonlight for Two

Moonlight for Two is an American animated short film. It stars Goopy Geer, one of the few recurring main characters of the Harman-Ising-produced Merrie Melodies. It may have been released on June 11, 1932, but one source is unsure of its exact date (as well as of the dates of other Warner Bros. cartoons released between 1930 and 1932.) Like most Merrie Melodies of its time, it was directed by Rudolf Ising; its music was directed by Frank Marsales.

Summary

The iris opens to a night-time scene, perhaps in the Ozarks or Appalachia, and the music of "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain." Goopy Geer's nameless sweetheart comes out of a cabin scatting the music. Goopy himself stands by a tree unknowingly accompanying her on his harmonica before they meet. A songbird and her children trill a tune, "Moonlight for Two," which the happy couple pick up together, dancing about as the birds continue their accompaniment. The dancing ends when Goopy and the young lady hop onto a precarious wooden cart which, boarded, rolls down the hill at whose top it had been placed and through a cabin whose formation is confounded by the impact and whose logs, sent into the air, fall to earth again in a neat pile. The ungoverned cart crashes into a tree but reassembles into a perfect wheelbarrow, now bearing only the girl and pushed along by Goopy; across a plank bridge merrily they roll along, the bridge yielding to their weight not to the point of breaking but only bending enough that the happy couple are wetted by the shallow water beneath. We cut to a large cabin, where a square dance is taking place: amongst other partners, two donkeys dance, their tails joining to form a makeshift jump-rope for a kitten; a goat-like fiddler continually resins his bow between his toes.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande-Butera (born June 26, 1993), known professionally as Ariana Grande (/ˌɑːriːˈɑːnə ˈɡrɑːndeɪ/), is an American singer and actress. She began her career in the Broadway musical 13, before landing the role of Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon television series Victorious in 2009. After four seasons, the show ended, and Grande starred on the spinoff, Sam & Cat, which ended in 2014. She has also appeared in other theatre, television and film roles and lent her voice to animated television and films.

Grande's music career began with the soundtrack Music from Victorious (2011). She signed a recording contract with Republic Records and released her debut studio album Yours Truly in 2013, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "The Way", reached the top-ten of the Billboard Hot 100, with critics comparing her wide vocal range to Mariah Carey's.

Grande's second studio album, My Everything (2014), also reached number one in the United States and charted well in various other countries. With the singles "Problem", "Break Free", "Bang Bang" and "Love Me Harder" from that album, she spent 34 continuous weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and had the most top 10 singles of any artist in 2014. In 2015, Grande promoted My Everything with her first world tour, The Honeymoon Tour, and guest-starred in the Fox comedy-horror TV series Scream Queens. She also released the lead single "Focus" from her upcoming third album, released a holiday EP album, Christmas & Chill, and was heard on several collaborative projects.

Les Deux Amants

"Les Deux Amants" (Old French: "Les Deus Amanz", English: "The Two Lovers") is a Breton lai, a type of narrative poem, written by Marie de France sometime in the 12th century. The poem belongs to what is collectively known as The Lais of Marie de France. Like the other lais in the collection, "Les Deux Amants" is written in Old French, in rhyming octosyllabic couplets. This lai tells the tragic story of two lovers.

Plot summary

A widowed king takes comfort in raising his beautiful daughter, and he is reluctant to let go of her when she is of marriageable age. He challenges all her potential suitors to prove themselves by carrying her up a nearby mountain. Many men make the attempt and fail. When the king's daughter falls in love with a noble and handsome man, she tells the man of a magical potion that will renew his strength and allow him to carry her all the way up the mountain. He obtains the tonic from her aunt who has vast medical knowledge, but when he tries to carry her up the mountain, he stubbornly refuses to take the potion. He succeeds in bringing her to the summit, but he collapses from exhaustion and dies. She tries to give him some of the potion to revive him, but he is already dead. She then throws the vial to the side and dies from a broken heart. The site where the vial breaks becomes a fertile ground for various beneficial herbs. The people of the kingdom bury them on the mountain, and the mountain becomes known as "the Mountain of Two Lovers".
