Weather is the state of the atmosphere, to the degree that it is hot or cold, wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy. Most weather phenomena occur in the troposphere, just below the stratosphere. Weather refers, generally, to day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity, whereas climate is the term for the average atmospheric conditions over longer periods of time. When used without qualification, "weather" is understood to be the weather of Earth.
Weather is driven by density (temperature and moisture) differences between one place and another. These differences can occur due to the sun angle at any particular spot, which varies by latitude from the tropics. The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, such as extratropical cyclones, are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the Earth's axis is tilted relative to its orbital plane, sunlight is incident at different angles at different times of the year. On Earth's surface, temperatures usually range ±40 °C (100 °F to −40 °F) annually. Over thousands of years, changes in Earth's orbit affect the amount and distribution of solar energy received by the Earth and influence long-term climate and global climate change.

Thomas William "Tom" Hiddleston (born 9 February 1981) is an English film, television, radio, and stage actor. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and he rose to prominence through a number of TV roles and more recently major film roles. He played Loki in the 2011 Marvel Studios film Thor, Captain Nicholls in Steven Spielberg's World War I film War Horse (2011), and also Freddie Page in the British drama The Deep Blue Sea, alongside Rachel Weisz. He played author F. Scott Fitzgerald in the Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris (2011). He returned to his role as Loki in The Avengers (2012) and is set to reprise the character again for Thor 2 (2013).
Hiddleston was born in Westminster, London, to parents Diana Patricia (née Servaes), a former stage manager and arts administrator, and James Norman Hiddleston, a scientist in physical chemistry who was the managing director of a pharmaceutical company. His father is from Greenock, Scotland and his mother from Suffolk, England. He is the middle child with two sisters, Sarah (oldest), a journalist in India, and Emma (youngest), is also an actor. He was raised in Wimbledon, in his early years, and later in Oxford. When Hiddleston was 13, he boarded at Eton College, at the same time that his parents were going through a divorce. "I think I started acting because I found being away at school while my parents were divorcing really distressing." He went on to act at The Dragon School in Oxford, then continued on to the University of Cambridge, where he earned a double first. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2005.

Hey everyone! I'm sorry that this channel has been pretty inactive lately. This year has been incredibly rough which made it difficult to animate. Family health issues, forest fires near parent's property, just lots of life stuff going on that I'm still recovering from...but things are gettting back to normal again. Metinka Slater was just trying to inform the people of Des Moines, Iowa about the weather -- when suddenly a Windows 10 upgrade reminder appeared. Over 110 million people use Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system. Unfortunately, the fine folks of Des Moines, Iowa's KCCI 8 news and weather station aren't among them -- and on Wednesday they paid for it. Metinka Slater, the station's resident meteorologist, was giving her standard weather update when the PC that was projecting the weather map prompted her to upgrade to Windows 10, awkwardly obscuring much of the screen. Hey everyone! I'm sorry that this channel has been pretty inactive lately. This year has been incredibly rough which made it difficult to animate. Family health issues, forest fires near parent's property, just lots of life stuff going on that I'm still recovering from...but things are gettting back to normal again.
I saw how long it was since my last upload and decided to spend a week creating this short. It's very simple in story and style. It's suppose to mimic a video game from dave's gameboy in a way which is why it looks a bit choppy. If you guys like it I could continue these in between the main shorts. If not then I'll go back to working on the main stuff haha
Also another reason uploads haven't been as frequent compared to a few years ago is because I've been taking up more projects outside the channel (plus with school this past year). But I'm doing my best to build up some more stuff for the channel (hopefully some original stuff!)
That's my update haha, I'm also about 80% done with another short like this which you might see in a week or so (depending if you guys want more stuff like this). Anyways, I hope you're all having a good year! Sorry again about things being so slow. I'll keep doing my best to get animations finished for the channel during these busy times. Thanks for sticking around and for all your support over the years! :)

Metinka Slater was just trying to inform the people of Des Moines, Iowa about the weather -- when suddenly a Windows 10 upgrade reminder appeared.
Over 110 million people use Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system. Unfortunately, the fine folks of Des Moines, Iowa's KCCI 8 news and weather station aren't among them -- and on Wednesday they paid for it.
Metinka Slater, the station's resident meteorologist, was giving her standard weather update when the PC that was projecting the weather map prompted her to upgrade to Windows 10, awkwardly obscuring much of the screen.
"Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10, what should I do? Don't you love when that pops up!" she joked. You can see the full video here.
The American electronics giant has been bullish on getting Windows 8 users to upgrade to Windows 10 since the operating system's July 2015 release. It's a great OS, though it likely won't be gracing KCCI 8's good books any time soon.

The weather is unpredictable, and there are numerous variables that can change a forecast at the drop of a hat. Hot and cold air can create terrifying tornadoes that wipe out entire towns, simple conditions can create hurricanes that turn oceans into vortexes.
From rain to snow, the weather dictates the course of our regular lives. Snow days prevent us from going to school and work. Rain can evolve and escalate into flooding and cause our greatest assets to float away. There are different parts around the world that are exposed to different levels of sunlight and makes the weather different all over the world. There is no one set stagnant weather condition. For example, the far north and far south are the coldest parts of the world, while places by the equator are some of the hottest.
Blame it on global warming or the evolution of our environment, but the weather seems to be getting stranger with each passing year. Here are some of the strangest weather occurrences that have happened throughout history. From snow in Southern California to hot conditions in Arctic cities, these occurrences are grim reminders that nothing is set in stone, not even the weather.

I am waiting for Jen to arrive in the studio, but she's outside and she's in a really bad mood, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to teach you some weather idioms. What do you think? Jen: (Screaming and shouting)
Li: She has a face like thunder. If you have a face like thunder, it means that you are very angry indeed. And Jen definitely seems angry!
Jen: (In the background) It's so unfair. When things go wrong for me, they always go badly wrong. It never rains but it pours!
Li: There's another weather idiom. Did you hear it? Jen said "it never rains but it pours." That's something that people say when they think they have very big problems. I wonder what Jen's problem is? Oh, here she comes!
Jen: Hi Li. Sorry I'm late. I'm so upset. The boss said that I would get a promotion if I finished all of my work by midday. I finished everything by 12 o'clock and now the boss is ignoring my emails about the promotion and won't talk to me.
Li: I think you're just chasing rainbows, Jen. If you chase rainbows, it means you are trying to do something that will never happen.
Jen: So you don't think I'll get a promotion?
Li: No, I don't think so. I think the boss was probably just trying to get you to finish your work more quickly.
Jen: He tricked me! There he is! I'm going to go and talk to him!
(Door closes)
Li: Well, that all sounds like a storm in a teacup to me. If something is described as 'a storm in a teacup', it means that a person is exaggerating their problems and making their problems sound worse than they actually are. Here's Jen coming back in! (To Jen) Well? What did he say?
Jen: He said that he was pleased with my work and that we'll talk about the promotion next week. He also said that I can have the rest of the afternoon off!
Li: You see, Jen? Every cloud has a silver lining! The idiom means that you can always find something positive, even in a bad situation.
Jen: You're absolutely right. What do you think I should do with my free afternoon, then?
Li: Well, I'd go and sit in the park, the weather's lovely today! Join us again for another edition of The English We Speak from BBC Learning English.

The Weather Channel's Local on the 8's Throughout The Years
The Weather Channel has been on people's cable and satellite services since May of 1982, and continues on, despite DirecTV dropping it because of price negotiations in 2014 for a while. One of it's staples was the Local Forecasts, later known as the Local on the 8s, which either sends you the short term forecasts for the major US cities or a personal local area forecasts with additional information, depending on the cable or satellite's systems. This video contains a local forecast from each year, from the earliest archived to the most recent this year, covering several systems used by cable and satellite providers and TWC. Review:
Weather Report are captured live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1976 in this made for Swiss TV video recording. Sound and image quality (full stereo, full colour) is exemplary.
Jaco Pastorius had been in the bass slot just a few months but harnessing his great potential had already led to the replacement of drummer Chester Thompson with Alex Acuña (who had been playing percussion) and the introduction of Manolo Badrena (joining in the vacant percussion slot). As Joe Zawinul recalled: "As great a drummer as Chester was, he and Jaco didn't flow. Jaco was more of an upbeat player - more driving...... We had Alex Acuña move over to the drums and then Badrena came in. All of a sudden we had some smokin' stuff again."
Most of the material performed is from the "Black Market" album from earlier that year which had marked Jaco Pastorius' first recording in the band. Only "Scarlet Woman" (from "Mysterious Traveller"), "Badia (from "Tale Spinnin'") and the medley "Dr Honoris Causa / Directions" are from elsewhere - although there is a long and involving drum duet between Alex Acuña and Manolo Badrena that would appear again in shortened form as "Rumba Mama" on "Heavy Weather" and a riveting improvised piano/ soprano sax duet between Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter that is one of the highlights of the concert. Jaco Pastorius contributes an early version his bass solo "Portrait Of Tracy".
The full synergy and interplay between long term members (and band founders) Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter and the new dynamic introduced by Jaco Pastorius that emerged fully on "Heavy Weather" and "Night Passage" is a work in progress here but is nearing completion. Jaco Pastorious is so "unquestionably the Charlie Parker of electric bass", as Christian McBride has said. He has that effortless flow and mastery of his instrument that is given to the very few. You can sense the breath of fresh air that he is blowing through the Weather Report concept. This concert captures this, as it is happening.
Wayne Shorter's playing gives the lie to the claim that he had 'disappeared' as 'Mr Gone' under Joe Zawinul's dominating influence; his playing on these extended pieces is creative and inspiring, noting however that this is within the communal Weather Report ethos in which egoistical soloing is essentially alien. Wayne Shorter's almost minimalist patience and perception in music, still in evidence in his concerts today, should never be misconstrued as lack of involvement.
And of course, Joe Zawinul, perched behind his bank of keyboards, is nearing his creative peak, conducting the band with his eyes. What this concert shows is the importance of his Fender Rhodes playing, learned from the work with Miles Davis. Balanced against bass, drums and saxophone, it is one of the signature sounds of jazz, as is being rediscovered by so many musicians today.
Overall, a very fine documenting of one of the great bands in jazz approaching its peak. Essential viewing and listening.
