Algeria, Vietnam for Peaceful Settlement of Conflicts, Peoples' Right to Self-Determination

Algiers — Algeria and Vietnam underlined their commitment to the peaceful settlement of conflicts and respect of the States' sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as to the peoples' right to self-determination, according to a joint statement released Wednesday, following the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyên Tan Dung to Algeria.

The two sides underlined "their commitment to the peaceful settlement of conflicts and disagreements, without resorting to thereat or use of force, respect of the States' sovereignty and national integrity as well as peoples' right to self-determination in accordance with the principles of the international law, the United Nations' Charter and the spirit of the Non-Aligned Movement, to which belong Algeria and Vietnam," said the communiqué.

The two sides supported "any initiative that allow achieving these objectives in all the regions of the world as well as the efforts aimed at ensuring stability, security and maintaining peace at the international level," added the source.

Tan Dung paid a three-day official visit (From Sunday to Tuesday) to Algeria, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
