Emir

Emir (/əˈmɪər, eɪˈmɪər, ˈeɪmɪər/; Arabic: أمير‎ ʾAmīr [ʔæˈmiːr]), sometimes transliterated (olowan, Datu in Meranau common version) Amir, Amier or Ameer, is an aristocratic or noble title of high office used in a variety of places in the Arab countries and Afghanistan. It means commander, general, or prince. The feminine form is Emira (أميرة ʾAmīrah). When translated as prince, the word "emirate" is analogous to a sovereign principality.

Origins

Amir, meaning "Lord" or "commander-in-chief", is derived from the Arabic root a-m-r, "command". Originally simply meaning commander-in-chief or leader, usually in reference to a group of people, it came to be used as a title for governors or rulers, usually in smaller states, and in modern Arabic is analogous to the English word "prince". The word entered English in 1593, from the French émir. It was one of the titles or names of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

Weed

A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, "a plant in the wrong place". Examples commonly are plants unwanted in human-controlled settings, such as farm fields, gardens, lawns, and parks. Taxonomically, the term "weed" has no botanical significance, because a plant that is a weed in one context is not a weed when growing in a situation where it is in fact wanted, and where one species of plant is a valuable crop plant, another species in the same genus might be a serious weed, such as a wild bramble growing among cultivated loganberries. Many plants that people widely regard as weeds also are intentionally grown in gardens and other cultivated settings. The term also is applied to any plant that grows or reproduces aggressively, or is invasive outside its native habitat. More broadly "weed" occasionally is applied pejoratively to species outside the plant kingdom, species that can survive in diverse environments and reproduce quickly; in this sense it has even been applied to humans.

Max Amini

Max Amini (Persian: مکس امینی) born in Tucson, Arizona is an American Iranian comedian. He is bilingual in English and Persian. Max Amini was born in Tucson Arizona, to Iranian parents who immigrated to Arizona. He was raised on the West Coast and graduated from UCLA's school of Theater, Film and Television in 2004. As an actor, Max has numerous film and television credits including NBC's Heroes, regular appearances on Comedy Central's Mind of Mencia, and a leading role in the film "How Beer Pong Saved my Life".

Early life and education

Max began his stand-up comedy career in 2002 at the LA Improv. The show was part of a comedy workshop class final and despite his own inhibitions as the "worst kid in class" by the end of his set the audience was thoroughly enthused with the performance they'd just seen. Since then he hasn't stopped. For nine years Max has performed across the globe, expressing his views on family and cultural topics through his spectacular theatrics and energetic humor. He was chosen as one of the finalists for NBC's Diversity Showcase in 2009, and he developed a stand-up comedy tour, named "Exotic Imports" featuring second-generation Americans coming from diverse cultural backgrounds.
