A severe landslide has damaged large parts of a major highway in southwest China on Wednesday (27 April). The landslide is said to have been caused by continous torrential rain.
The potential landslide was brought to local police officers attention when a patrol unit noticed that the cliff along the Cengong-Shiqian highway was beginning to collapse.They quickly sealed off the area and directed vehicles onto alternative roads.
Not long after the area was sealed off, thousands of meters of earth collapsed onto the road forming a severe landslide.
Fortunately, no casulties were reported and the local government is currently repairing the road with hopes to resume normal traffic flow as soon as possible.

5 Creatures found below Antarctic Ice. These 5 somewhat scary creatures can all be found under Antarctic ice. They might look like scary monsters but they are mostly harmless.
5. Comb Jelly
Jellies like this can be very abundant in Southern Ocean surface waters and it is widely suggested that they will be amongst the big winners in the more acidic, warmer ocean that results from high levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
4. Sea Pig
This was one of the most common and abundant animals caught off the coast of Antarctica by the international research team aboard the BAS Royal Research Ship James Clark Ross. Mostly found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, some related species can be found in the Antarctic...
3. Hoff crab
The Hoff crab is an undescribed species of deep-sea squat lobster which lives on hydrothermal vents near Antarctica. The crustacean was given its nickname in 2010 by UK deep-sea scientists aboard the RRS James Cook, owing to resemblance between its dense covering of setae on the ventral surface of the exoskeleton and the hairy chest of the actor David Hasselhoff.

Sea creatures can get huge in Antarctica, thanks to the high amounts of oxygen in the water. Gillless creatures such as sea spiders breathe through holes in their bodies, which allows more oxygen to be absorbed into their bodies—thus allowing them to grow bigger over time. That second picture is from a hoax by the way, someone claimed it was an Antarctic seaspider but it was actually a prop from Alien3... The other picture is real.
1. Blackfin icefish
These fish are highly adapted to life in the cold waters of Antarctica's continental shelf. Their blood is filled with anti-freeze, but no red blood cells. They are among the many creatures recently photographed by the British Antarctic Survey in the Southern Ocean.

Below is a 2002 World War II horror film directed by David Twohy. It was written by Lucas Sussman, Darren Aronofsky and David Twohy, and stars Bruce Greenwood, Olivia Williams, Matthew Davis, Holt McCallany, Scott Foley, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Flemyng and Dexter Fletcher.
It was filmed on location in Lake Michigan (for exteriors, using the World War II-era U.S. Navy submarine, USS Silversides) and at Pinewood Studios.
The USS Tiger Shark is a submarine on patrol in the Atlantic Ocean in 1943. The submarine is ordered to pick up survivors spotted adrift by a British PBY Catalina patrol plane. At the wreck site, they retrieve three survivors — a British nurse and two sailors, one wounded — from a British hospital ship that was torpedoed several days earlier. As they pick up the survivors the Tiger Shark spots a German warship bearing down on them. The submarine has several encounters with the German warship and suffers heavy damage from depth charges in the process.
Immediately after the first attack the commanding officer of the Tiger Shark, Lieutenant Brice (Bruce Greenwood), discovers that the wounded sailor is actually a German POW, Luftwaffe pilot and family man Ben Archerlift. Brice confronts him because he thinks Archerlift has been making strange noises to betray their position to the German warship. Brice believes it was an act of sabotage, and shoots Archerlift dead when the German panics and grabs a scalpel to defend himself. The crew experiences eerie phenomena seemingly related to the recent death of the previous captain, Lieutenant Commander Winters. According to Brice, Winters was killed trying to obtain a souvenir from a torpedoed German ship; he fell and hit his head while reaching for his souvenir, then drowned before he could be rescued.

Moment huge landslide crashes down onto road below
A severe landslide has damaged large parts of a major highway in southwest China on Wednesday (27 April). The landslide is said to have been caused by continous torrential rain. The potential landslide was brought to local police officers attention when a patrol unit noticed that the cliff along the Cengong-Shiqian highway was beginning to collapse.They quickly sealed off the area and directed vehicles onto alternative roads. Not long after the area was sealed off, thousands of meters of earth collapsed onto the road forming a severe landslide. Fortunately, no casulties were reported and the local government is currently repairing the road with hopes to resume normal traffic flow as soon as possible. What are the top stories today? A severe landslide has damaged large parts of a major highway in southwest China on Wednesday (27 April). The landslide is said to have been caused by continous torrential rain.
The potential landslide was brought to local police officers attention when a patrol unit noticed that the cliff along the Cengong-Shiqian highway was beginning to collapse.They quickly sealed off the area and directed vehicles onto alternative roads.
Not long after the area was sealed off, thousands of meters of earth collapsed onto the road forming a severe landslide.
Fortunately, no casulties were reported and the local government is currently repairing the road with hopes to resume normal traffic flow as soon as possible.

A severe landslide has damaged large parts of a major highway in southwest China on Wednesday (27 April). The landslide is said to have been caused by continous torrential rain.

This was one of the most common and abundant animals caught off the coast of Antarctica by the international research team aboard the BAS Royal Research Ship James Clark Ross. Mostly found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, some related species can be found in the Antarctic...

The Hoff crab is an undescribed species of deep-sea squat lobster which lives on hydrothermal vents near Antarctica. The crustacean was given its nickname in 2010 by UK deep-sea scientists aboard the RRS James Cook, owing to resemblance between its dense covering of setae on the ventral surface of the exoskeleton and the hairy chest of the actor David Hasselhoff.

Sea creatures can get huge in Antarctica, thanks to the high amounts of oxygen in the water. Gillless creatures such as sea spiders breathe through holes in their bodies, which allows more oxygen to be absorbed into their bodies—thus allowing them to grow bigger over time. That second picture is from a hoax by the way, someone claimed it was an Antarctic seaspider but it was actually a prop from Alien3... The other picture is real.

These fish are highly adapted to life in the cold waters of Antarctica's continental shelf. Their blood is filled with anti-freeze, but no red blood cells. They are among the many creatures recently photographed by the British Antarctic Survey in the Southern Ocean.

Over the years, scientists and explorers have learned a great deal about the planet’s landmasses, but many of them still hold surprises.
A team of researchers has gathered compelling evidence of yet another massive lake resting beneath Antarctica’s frozen surface, reports New Scientist.
Though the suspected subterranean body of water is not likely as large as Lake Vostok, it is estimated to be rather sizeable.
Martin Steigert from the Imperial College of London, who was involved in the research, told New Scientist, “We’ve seen these strange, linear channels on the surface, and are inferring these are above massive, 1000-kilometre-long channels, and there’s a relatively large subglacial lake there too.”
Confirmation of that theory is anticipated to be coming soon, as researchers from both China and the US recently employed ground-penetrating radar to gather additional data.
Antarctic underground lakes are of great interest to science, as they can house organisms that have lived in isolation for millions of years.
