【ニューヨーク＝黒沢潤】米東部ニュージャージー州下院は２６日までに、日韓で問題になっている慰安婦問題を非難する決議案を全会一致で採択した。
決議は日本政府に対し、「歴史の責任」を受け入れるよう要求。「将来の世代に（この問題を伝えていく）教育を施す」ことも求めている。採択は２１日付。上院にも同様の決議案が提出されている。
東部ニューヨーク州上院でも今年１月下旬、同様の決議が採択された。今月８日には、ニュージャージー州バーゲン郡の裁判所近くに慰安婦碑が建立されるなど、韓国系団体が主導する日本批判の動きが活発化している。

STORYLINE:
New Jersey will become the first US state in four decades to abolish the death penalty under a measure lawmakers approved and the governor intends to sign within days.
New Jersey Assembly members voted on Thursday 44-36 to replace the death sentence with life in prison without parole.
The state Senate approved the bill on Monday, and Governor Jon S. Corzine, a Democrat, has said he will sign the bill within a week.
A special state commission found in January that the death penalty was a more expensive sentence than life in prison, did not deter people from committing murder, and carries the risk of executing an innocent person.
A judge spared Robert O. Marshall the death penalty in 2004 after he had spent 18 years on the state's death row.
Upon hearing Thursday's agreement to abolish the death penalty, Marshall said it was time the death sentence was abolished.
"It's about time that they got rid of it," Marshall said on Thursday, during an exclusive interview with The Associated Press at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, where he remains incarcerated.
Marshall, an insurance salesman convicted of hiring a hitman to kill his wife in 1984, said the death penalty wasn't likely to deter even horrific crimes and wasn't going to bring much solace to the families of the victims.
"Killing the one person, the person he killed is still dead, so it doesn't accomplish anything there either," he said.
Politicians, activists and families of murder victims weighed in on both sides of the issue in hearings prior to this week's votes by both houses of the New Jersey Legislature.
Upon passing the bill, Joseph Roberts Junior, a Democrat and Speaker of the New Jersey House said the new legislation would send a signal to all of America.

New Jersey
New Jersey is a state in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania, and on the southwest by Delaware. Jersey
Jersey (/ˈdʒɜːrzi/, French: [ʒɛʁzɛ]; Jèrriais: Jèrri [ʒɛri]), officially the Bailiwick of Jersey (French: Bailliage de Jersey; Jèrriais: Bailliage dé Jèrri), is a Crown dependency of the United Kingdom, a possession of the Crown in right of Jersey, off the coast of Normandy, France. The bailiwick consists of the island of Jersey, along with surrounding uninhabited islands and rocks collectively named Les Dirouilles, Les Écréhous, Les Minquiers, Les Pierres de Lecq, and other reefs. Jersey was part of the Duchy of Normandy, whose dukes went on to become kings of England from 1066. After Normandy was lost by the kings of England in the thirteenth century, and the ducal title surrendered to France, Jersey and the other Channel Islands remained attached to the English crown.
Jersey is a self-governing parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy, with its own financial, legal and judicial systems, and the power of self-determination.
The island of Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands. Although the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey are often referred to collectively as the Channel Islands, the "Channel Islands" are not a constitutional or political unit. Jersey has a separate relationship to its Crown from the other Crown dependencies of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, although all three Crowns are held by the monarch of the United Kingdom. It is not part of the United Kingdom, and has an international identity separate from that of the UK, but the United Kingdom is constitutionally responsible for the defence of Jersey. The Commission have confirmed in a written reply to the European Parliament in 2003 that Jersey is within the Union as a European Territory for whose external relationships the United Kingdom is responsible. Jersey is not fully part of the European Union but has a special relationship with it, notably being treated as within the European Community for the purposes of free trade in goods.

Robert O. Marshall
Robert Oakley Marshall (December 16, 1939 – February 21, 2015) was an American businessman who in 1984 was charged with (and later convicted of) the contract killing of his wife, Maria.
The case attracted the attention of true crime author Joe McGinniss, whose bestselling book on the Marshall case, Blind Faith, was published in 1989. The book was adapted into an Emmy-nominated 1990 TV miniseries of the same name starring Robert Urich and Joanna Kerns.
In 2002, Marshall wrote the book Tunnel Vision: Trial & Error, in which he challenged the conclusions McGinniss drew in Blind Faith. While pointing out flaws in the judicial process he believed failed him, Marshall also alleged that his trial was contaminated by police misconduct and compromised testimony and evidence.
Originally sentenced to the death penalty, in 2006 Marshall was resentenced to life in prison, with eligibility for parole in 2014. With a March 2015 parole hearing pending, Marshall died in South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton, New Jersey on February 21, 2015.

決議は日本政府に対し、「歴史の責任」を受け入れるよう要求。「将来の世代に（この問題を伝えていく）教育を施す」ことも求めている。採択は２１日付。上院にも同様の決議案が提出されている。

STORYLINE:
New Jersey will become the first US state in four decades to abolish the death penalty under a measure lawmakers approved and the governor intends to sign within days.
New Jersey Assembly members voted on Thursday 44-36 to replace the death sentence with life in prison without parole.
The state Senate approved the bill on Monday, and Governor Jon S. Corzine, a Democrat, has said he will sign the bill within a week.
A special state commission found in January that the death penalty was a more expensive sentence than life in prison, did not deter people from committing murder, and carries the risk of executing an innocent person.
A judge spared Robert O. Marshall the death penalty in 2004 after he had spent 18 years on the state's death row.
Upon hearing Thursday's agreement to abolish the death penalty, Marshall said it was time the death sentence was abolished.
"It's about time that they got rid of it," Marshall said on Thursday, during an exclusive interview with The Associated Press at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, where he remains incarcerated.
Marshall, an insurance salesman convicted of hiring a hitman to kill his wife in 1984, said the death penalty wasn't likely to deter even horrific crimes and wasn't going to bring much solace to the families of the victims.
"Killing the one person, the person he killed is still dead, so it doesn't accomplish anything there either," he said.
Politicians, activists and families of murder victims weighed in on both sides of the issue in hearings prior to this week's votes by both houses of the New Jersey Legislature.
Upon passing the bill, Joseph Roberts Junior, a Democrat and Speaker of the New Jersey House said the new legislation would send a signal to all of America.

When in New Jersey, we always visit New York. This time the boys watched the Broadway play Shrek while Emma and Rae watched the Broadway play Little Mermaid. After that we went to the M&M; store, stolled around Time Square, and ate at McD's while Rae did some sidewalk vendor shopping. We had a great time! After that we went to the M&M; store, stolled around Time Square, and ate at McD's while Rae did some sidewalk vendor shopping. We had a great time! NY was particularly very busy at this time with plenty of tourists like us because it was just the 4th of July holiday yesterday. As you can see parang piyesta kahit saan ka pumunta.

Thank you. Wow, what a warm welcome. It’s an amazing feeling to be up here and see this. When I was asked to give the sermon by our senior pastor, I realized as I thought about it that this will be the fifth sermon I’ve ever given in my life. Can you imagine? I’ve always been the kind of person who looks for the talents that people have, and I want to support other people in bringing out those talents. So it was quite a shock for me when I realized I’m going to be the one up at this podium this time.
Good morning and welcome to Lovin’Life Ministries at the beautiful Manhattan Center in New York City. I must say that things look a lot different from up here. I think all of you should try this sometime.
I want to thank everyone from around the world who has joined us today, and I want to say a special thank you to our senior pastor and all the families from New York and New Jersey that have been supporting the development of Lovin’ Life Ministries and this amazing broadcast. Thank you.
Our senior pastor, Rev. In Jin Moon, used to always sing a song for her parents called “The Wind Beneath My Wings.” I think she sang this for her mom, our True Mother, because her mother always lifted her up and encouraged her.
Our senior pastor has been the wind beneath our wings and allowed us to fly to places that we never thought we could go years ago, don’t you think? Sometimes when I’m watching the big screen in Ohio or Indiana or some of the other states, I have wondered if the families in New York and New Jersey realize what an amazing difference they’re making in communities across America. Each Sunday as you applaud and create this high spirit, we feel it everywhere. Thank you.
In Jin Nim has been the wind beneath my wings as a district pastor, allowing me to shine and lead, and encouraging me to be excellent in whatever I choose to embark on.
Following Our Senior Pastor
I must say that in the beginning of our ministry there were some things that I did not really understand. Was that correct for all of you, too? It was something different. I was more like a groupie following a rock star. As I grew in the ministry, however, I became a partner and an owner of my faith. Our ministry has become more than a Sunday event; it has become a lifestyle, a Lovin’ Life lifestyle.
Over the last three years attendance is up, tithing is up, new members are joining. New people are being called by God to be leaders, like the Rev. Gaines in Atlanta, Cliff and Tiff. Hey, Cliff and Tiff. And Reverend Herndon, now helping us out in Ohio.
When I was thinking about our live broadcasts and the different speakers we have enjoyed, the image of Forrest Gump came to my mind – when he’s sitting at the bus stop talking about what his mama used to say. “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.”
Listening to our national staff and our district pastors has been a wonderful experience. They are all the same on the outside, like pure chocolate, but when they shared with us on Sunday we were able to discover a lot of different flavors.
Our senior pastor is a hard act to follow, with her passion for a ministry that can change lives and her sermons filled with stories of True Parents and True Family.
I have always been encouraged by her faith and her belief that we could move mountains. Today I feel like I’m standing in front of a mountain and praying that God will help me move it, so I think I have a lot of growing still to do.
She won my heart in our first district pastors’ meeting when she shared with us that she did not have to tell us what to do, that we should watch what she does and do it. Little did I know that that would lead me to a podium with all of you today. What amazing lives we live!

First, however, I would like to share a little about myself.
My name is Michael Lamson, and I’m honored to be the district pastor of District 6. It’s a wonderful district comprising a group of the most interesting states. Some would consider them fly-over states until there’s an election, when everyone realizes how powerful we are. When I travel through Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky, I realize what amazing families we have in our ministry. And I have to give a big shout-out to all the families in my district. Hey, guys!
When our movement launched this new ministry, it was a really big step for some communities to switch to a live broadcast, but we did it. The communities in every state took that leap of faith, united with our senior pastor’s vision, and God rewarded us with happier, healthier communities, families, and children. And it’s amazing what we’ve done in three years.

On October 17, 2016, the Institute for Public Knowledge hosted a book launch for Rebecca Solnit and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro's Nonstop Metropolis: A New York City Atlas. The editors were in conversation with several contributors, including IPK Visiting Scholar Garnette Cadogan.
Nonstop Metropolis, the culminating volume in a trilogy of atlases, conveys innumerable unbound experiences of New York City through twenty-six imaginative maps and informative essays. Bringing together the insights of dozens of experts—from linguists to music historians, ethnographers, urbanists, and environmental journalists—amplified by cartographers, artists, and photographers, it explores all five boroughs of New York City and parts of nearby New Jersey. We are invited to travel through Manhattan’s playgrounds, from polyglot Queens to many-faceted Brooklyn, and from the resilient Bronx to the mystical kung fu hip-hop mecca of Staten Island. The contributors to this exquisitely designed and gorgeously illustrated volume celebrate New York City’s unique vitality, its incubation of the avant-garde, and its literary history, but they also critique its racial and economic inequality, environmental impact, and erasure of its past. Nonstop Metropolis allows us to excavate New York’s buried layers, to scrutinize its political heft, and to discover the unexpected in one of the most iconic cities in the world. Rebecca Solnit is a writer, historian, activist, and author of eighteen books about environment, landscape, community, art, politics, hope, and feminism, including two atlases, of San Francisco in 2010 and, New Orleans in 2013; Men Explain Things to Me; The Faraway Nearby; A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster; A Field Guide to Getting Lost; Wanderlust: A History of Walking; and River of Shadows, Eadweard Muybridge and the Technological Wild West (for which she received a Guggenheim, the National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism, and the Lannan Literary Award). A product of the California public education system from kindergarten to graduate school, she is a columnist at Harper's and frequent contributor to the political site Tomdispatch.com.
Joshua Jelly-Schapiro is a geographer and writer whose work has appeared in publications including The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, Harper's, Artforum, and Transition, among many others. His upcoming book Island People: The Caribbean and the World, will be published by Knopf in November.
Garnette Cadogan is an essayist and journalist who focuses on history, culture, and the arts. 決議は日本政府に対し、「歴史の責任」を受け入れるよう要求。「将来の世代に（この問題を伝えていく）教育を施す」ことも求めている。採択は２１日付。上院にも同様の決議案が提出されている。
東部ニューヨーク州上院でも今年１月下旬、同様の決議が採択された。今月８日には、ニュージャージー州バーゲン郡の裁判所近くに慰安婦碑が建立されるなど、韓国系団体が主導する日本批判の動きが活発化している。

New Jersey will become the first US state in four decades to abolish the death penalty under a measure lawmakers approved and the governor intends to sign within days.
New Jersey Assembly members voted on Thursday 44-36 to replace the death sentence with life in prison without parole.
The state Senate approved the bill on Monday, and Governor Jon S. Corzine, a Democrat, has said he will sign the bill within a week.
A special state commission found in January that the death penalty was a more expensive sentence than life in prison, did not deter people from committing murder, and carries the risk of executing an innocent person.
A judge spared Robert O. Marshall the death penalty in 2004 after he had spent 18 years on the state's death row.
Upon hearing Thursday's agreement to abolish the death penalty, Marshall said it was time the death sentence was abolished.
"It's about time that they got rid of it," Marshall said on Thursday, during an exclusive interview with The Associated Press at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, where he remains incarcerated.
Marshall, an insurance salesman convicted of hiring a hitman to kill his wife in 1984, said the death penalty wasn't likely to deter even horrific crimes and wasn't going to bring much solace to the families of the victims.
"Killing the one person, the person he killed is still dead, so it doesn't accomplish anything there either," he said.
Politicians, activists and families of murder victims weighed in on both sides of the issue in hearings prior to this week's votes by both houses of the New Jersey Legislature.
Upon passing the bill, Joseph Roberts Junior, a Democrat and Speaker of the New Jersey House said the new legislation would send a signal to all of America.

Charter Day celebrates the founding of Seton Hall in 1856 and the granting of our charter by the New Jersey State legislature in 1861. It is a special annual opportunity to reflect on our history and purpose, our Catholic identity and mission. Charter Day took place on Thursday, April 23rd at 3:00 p.m. in Jubilee Hall Auditorium.
The afternoon’s commemoration included Thomas Rzeznik, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of History as keynote speaker. Also, there was a presentation of the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service, awarded annually to long-time employees for distinguished service and commitment to the University’s mission.

Dr. Patricia Reid-Merritt – author, educator, scholar and performing artist - is the Distinguished Professor of Social Work and Africana Studies (Program Coordinator) at the Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey. She is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Afro-One Dance, Drama and Drum Theatre, Inc., a community-based cultural and performing arts organization currently celebrating its 39th year of operation.
Dr. Reid-Merritt received the Doctorate of Social Work in Race, Law and Social Policy from the University of Pennsylvania; the Master of Social Work in Direct Practice from Temple University; and, the Bachelor of Arts in psychology and social science from Cabrini College. She received her arts training in the City of Philadelphia, having studied at the Sydney King School of Dance, The Eakins Arts Center and Cabrini College.
Dr. Reid-Merritt is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Cabrini College Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, the Temple University General Alumni Society Certificate of Honor, NAACP Freedom Award, the Richard Stockton College’s Council of Black Faculty and Staff Annual Achievement Award, and the National Council for Black Studies Presidential Award (2002). She has been honored by the New Jersey State Council of Black Social Workers as Social Worker of the Year, the New Jersey State Legislature, and in 1997, was named by City News as one of New Jerseys' 100 Most Influential Citizens. She is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who's Who Among Black Americans, Outstanding Young Women of America, and 2000 Notable American Women. She is married to William T. Merritt. They have four children.

Schaer (D-Bergen, Passaic) and Jay Webber (R-Morris, Essex, Passaic), and former Chief Counsel to the New Jersey Attorney General, Jeff Jacobson, Kelly Drye & Warren LLP. These current lawmakers and former law enforcer went into great depth talking about governing philosophies and how those sometimes clash with the realities of policymaking.

Lynne is a New Jersey-based lawyer, teacher, and minister. Her 2014 book, Integral Healing tells the story of how she healed herself of two forms of life-threatening cancer using a unique healing approach inspired by “integral philosophy,” a practical model that combines scientific and spiritual perspectives. Feldman has been a pioneer in the integral movement, serving as a founding member of the Integral Institute and the Vice Chancellor of Integral University. Feldman has also enjoyed two successful careers. As a practicing lawyer since 1986, she has handled both civil and criminal cases, including multiple appearances before the New Jersey Appellate and Supreme Courts. She has also served as a High School teacher for nearly 20 years, and was honored by the New Jersey State Legislature. Feldman is currently retired, and serves as an ordained minister helping victims of serious illness to cope with their disease.

Kevin Earle has been the executive director of the Arizona Dental Association since 2008. In that role, he serves as the principal lobbyist for dentistry and better oral health care at the State Legislature.
He is the former executive director of the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners. Before his move to Arizona, he spent twenty years regulating professionals in the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. He was the Executive Director of the New Jersey Board of Dentistry for many years, and in the past regulated several other categories of health care professionals, including the Board of Medical Examiners.
He holds a BA in Public Affairs from George Washington University, an MBA from Rutgers University and an MPH with a concentration in health policy from Columbia University.
