The Metropolitan line is a London Underground service that connects Aldgate in the City of London, the capital's financial heart, with Amersham and Chesham in Buckinghamshire, with branches to Watford and Uxbridge. Coloured purplish red on the tube map, the line serves 34 stations in 41.4 miles (66.7 km). The section between Aldgate and Baker Street is shared with the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge with the Piccadilly line, and between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham with Chiltern Railways. Just under 67 million passenger journeys were made on the line in 2011/12. The line is one of the only two London Underground lines to cross the Greater London boundary, the other being the Central line.
In 1863 the Metropolitan Railway began the world's first underground railway between Paddington and Farringdon Street with wooden carriages and steam locomotives, but its most important route became the line north into the Middlesex countryside, where it stimulated the development of new suburbs. Harrow was reached in 1880, and the line extended as far as Verney Junction in Buckinghamshire, more than 50 miles (80 km) from Baker Street. From the end of the 19th century, the railway shared tracks with the Great Central Railway route out of Marylebone. The central London lines were electrified by 1907, but electric locomotives were exchanged for steam locomotives on trains heading north of Harrow. After the railway was absorbed by the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933 the line was cut back to Aylesbury. Steam trains ran until 1961, when the line was electrified to and services curtailed at Amersham. The Hammersmith & City line was shown on the tube map as part of the Metropolitan line until 1990, when it appeared as a separate line. The current S Stock trains entered service between 2010 and 2012.

Wembley Park is an area of northwest London, England. It is part of Wembley, in the London Borough of Brent. It includes Wembley Stadium, England's primary football stadium and a major sports and entertainment venue, Wembley Arena, a concert venue, and the Chalkhill housing estate.
Wembley City is the name of a re-development project taking place in Wembley Park since 2008. New apartments were built, called Quadrant Court. A new civic centre is currently operational. A new college has been built called Ark Academy. A new shopping centre called London Designer Outlet and a new cinema have also opened.

Finchley Road, an inner city main road which runs for about 7 kilometres (4.3 miles), is one of the major thoroughfares of north London, England.
Originally named Finchley New Road, it was built as a turnpike road in the late 1820s/early 1830s to provide a by-pass to the existing route north from London through Hampstead. The Hampstead route (now the route Haverstock Hill, Rosslyn Hill and North End Road) contained two steep hills either side of Hampstead Village and was difficult for horses with carriages to negotiate when muddy.
The new turnpike was built at the same time as the improvements which created Regent's Park. It started from what was then called the 'New Road' (now Euston Road, Marylebone Road - the first London bypass) and ran north. As the road crossed the boundary of Finchley, its name became Regents Park Road, indicating the destination of the turnpike from Finchley. The turnpike ended when it joined the Great North Road as Ballards Lane.
There was a tollgate at Childs Hill. After construction, many grand houses were built along its length, especially near to what are now Fortune Green, Childs Hill and Golders Green. It was once served by Finchley Road railway station on the Midland Main Line, but that has long-since closed. It is still served by Finchley Road tube station and Finchley Road & Frognal railway station on the North London Line (London Overground).

While the previous two parts focused on the stretch between Finchley Road and Wembley Park, which the Metropolitan Line shares with the Jubilee Line, we are today in Metropolitan Line only territory. Between Baker Street and Wembley Park the Metropolitan Line runs “express” while the Jubilee Line runs “local.” After Wembley Park the Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines diverge. However, some Metropolitan Line services continue skipping stops all the way up to Moor Park. In fact, there are so-called “fast” and “semi-fast” services, which either run express ...

New 'S-Stock' trains are being rolled out to the Metropolitan Line, and so tubegeek extraordinaire Geoff Marshall with video camera in hand and Vicki Pipe go out on the network to track down the new train and compare the difference between old and new. [Recorded on 6th August 2010]

The Metropolitan and Jubilee lines share a stretch of their routes between Baker Street and Wembley Park in the north-west of London. At Wembley Park the two lines then diverge: The Jubilee Line heads to Stanmore while the Metropolitan Line is bound for either Amersham, Chesham, Watford, or Uxbridge. The Metropolitan has only one intermediate stop on this route (at Finchley Road), while the Jubilee Line stops eight times. This part of the film shows Finchley Road and Kilburn stations.
