Sharks are amazing creatures that have been around since the dinosaurs, meaning that there are over 500 diversified species in our oceans – some of which look nothing like the famous great white. Here's some of the strangest, lesser well-known sharks out there. 10. Goblin shark This shark definitely isn’t a looker, but then again it doesn’t need to be because it’s a bottom-dweller, lurking in the ocean depths. We know that it ranges between 10 and 13 ft (3 and 4 m) in length and has a pertruding mouth can extend in order to catch its prey, but because of where it lives it’s so hard to study that we know very little about it. 9.The Dwarf Lantern Shark Another dweller from the deep, this shark is especially strange because it is the world’s smallest known shark and is smaller than your average human hand. Unsurprisingly, It gets its name from that fact that it has tiny glowing bioluminescent spots which help it attract smaller prey in the pitch black deep sea. 8. Wobbegong Shark Wobbegong is the common name given to the 12 species of carpet sharks in the family. They are known as carpet sharks because theu are pretty reminiscent of a carpet. These well-camouflaged sharksare bottom-dwelling sharks and spend much of their time resting on the sea floor, waiting to snatch up any prey that comes too close. 7. Australian ghostshark Also more appropriately known as the Elephant Shark, this shark is only about 4 feet long. It is slow growing and easy to recognize because of its trunk like snout. They use their oddly-shaped snouts to probe the ocean bottom for invertebrates and small fishes. 6. Frilled shark This shark kinda looks like it’s already dead, thanks to its primitive look, which is why it has long been considered a “living fossil”. With looks taken straights out of a horror movie, it is much more reminiscent of an eel or a snake thanks to a long, thin body. It is highly unlikely that you will find one of these guys as they are extremely rare and prefer to live in the deep ocean. Those that have been found have had a maximum length of 6.6 ft (2 m). 5. Cookiecutter shark Don’t let its silly name fool you, this shark is one of the most vicious out there. This is because it preys on just about every large and medium-sized creature it shares an ocean with, from whales to seals and even other sharks. It does this by sinking its bizarre jaws deep into their skin and twisting its little body to carve out a perfect skin-biscuit. Besides its parasitic feeding strategy, the cookiecutter shark has a bizarre cigar-shaped body and it is also extremely bioluminescent in order to convince its prey to come to it. 4.Sawshark Like the Wobbegong, the sawshark is actually a group which is comprised out of several species of shark that share a very distinct appendage – an elongated snout with teeth on the sides that they use like a blade in order to capture and kill prey. The shark uses its saw-like snout to dig up sand to find food and can grow up to 5.5ft (1.7meters) in length. 3. Greenland shark Typically, we think of sharks of lightning-quick predators who attack in the blink of an eye. That is not the case with the Greenland shark. This guy swims around at a cruising speed of 1 mph (1.6 kmh) or slower and when he gets the need for speed he can get up to a blistering 1.6 mph (2 kmh). It comes as no surpise then to know that this shark is also refered to as a sleeper shark. They are found in the cold, deep waters surrounding Canada, Iceland and Greenland and we have very little information about them. 2. Hammerhead shark Yes, it’s quite well-known, but this doesn’t detract from the fact that it is definitely one of the weirdest groups of sharks. Again, its name is pretty suggestive and it refers to the incredibly bizarre shape of the shark’s head. It is generally agreed that they evolved that strange head shape as it allows them to see what is below and above them - giving them 360 degree vision. 1. Megamouth shark Needless to say, this species has a massive mouth. With thick rubbery lips it has an appearance unlike any other shark out there. In fact, it is so unique that it is classified in its own distinct family. It feeds mostly on plankton and is relatively small compared to other plankton feeding sharks such as the whale and basking shark. There isn’t much else to say about them because unfortunately, we know very little about them. They were only discovered around 40 years ago by chance and, since then, we’ve encountered less than 60 specimens.

Is a 60-foot prehistoric shark named Megalodon still out there? Sightings of massive sharks around the world suggest to some that it's possible. Megalodon Shark Sightings Reported Megalodon shark sightings have some people wondering if the most formidable predator the ocean has ever seen might still be alive today, even though science and common sense tell us it's impossible. At maximum lengths of up to 60 feet, Megalodon was the largest shark that ever lived and the apex predator of its day. This terrifying monster lived at a time when the ocean was a very different place, and it went extinct long ago. Why, then, are there reports of massive sharks thirty feet long or more from around the world? Is it possible mainstream science has it wrong, and the Megalodon shark is still out there somewhere? In this article we'll take a look at some compelling evidence and stories that suggest Megalodon is still with us. In the end, it's up to you to decide: Is the Megalodon Shark still alive? Could Megalodon Still Live? There are some truly huge sharks in the world today, but the idea of a living Megalodon is something else entirely. It's a chilling thought, and fun to ponder, but is it really possible? When you consider that some researchers claim we know more about the surface of the moon that we do of the deep ocean, perhaps it's not such a strange idea after all. The deep ocean has proven especially difficult to study, and almost anything could lurk in the depths. In fact, there is precedence for bizarre marine creatures turning up when the odds are stacked against them. Some of them, like the Megalodon shark, were once thought extinct, or be believed to only be myths. The Giant Squid The Giant Squid is a huge creature reaching up to 30 feet in length which dwells in the deepest part of the ocean. Though science eventually knew of its existence from bodies washed ashore and scars left on the bodies of whales, no live adult specimen was ever caught on film until 2004. Now we know much more about these creatures, and that there is an even larger monster squid out there. The Colossal Squid is an enormous real-life sea monster, with the largest specimens weighing over half a ton. Yet even though it was discovered in 1925 we still know little about this beast. Colossal and Giant squid sightings by ancient sailors are probably what led to legends of the Kraken sea monster. The Megamouth Shark The Megamouth Shark is another large creature that can grow up to 16 feet in length, but it was not discovered until 1976. This beast eluded researchers for so long because it lives in deep water, and comes closer to the surface only at night. This, some researchers speculate, could be the same behavior that makes Megalodon so tough to spot in modern times. The Coelacanth The Coelacanth is an even stranger case. This bizarre fish was thought to have gone extinct 65 million years ago, until they were discovered in 1938, live and well, off the coast of South Africa. The Coelacanth is a prehistoric fish, referred to as the Living Fossil. While not giants like Megalodon, the Megamouth or the Giant Squid, they do reach over six feet in length. Recent Megalodon Sightings Unfortunately, when it comes to more recent Megalodon sightings there isn't a whole lot to hang our hats on. Megalodon has firmly planted itself in the realm of cryptozoology, and few marine biologists and shark researchers take the creature seriously in the modern day. Occasionally a stray report will wash up of a larger-than-normal shark spotted somewhere, but given that Great Whites can theoretically grow in excess of 20 feet it's certainly possible that these are misidentified animals. Most marine biologists would be thrilled enough to discover a 20-foot Great White! But there are at least a few interesting tidbits for consideration. The Megalodon Monsterquest Episode Back in 2009 the History Channel show Monsterquest visited the Sea of Cortez where massive sharks have been reported for years. These beasts are allegedly three times larger than the biggest great white sharks in the area, and know for decimating the local marine mammal populations. The Monsterquest team failed to find Megalodon, but many still believe, if this giant shark is still around, this is a prime location for finding it. The Monster of Bird Island In 2012, on an episode of the show Shark Wranglers called Monster of Bird Island, shark researchers interviewed a group of South African fisherman who claimed there was a huge shark in the area as big as their boat. The boat appeared to be thirty or forty feet long. Was this a Megalodon shark these fisherman had witnessed? Later in the episode one of the researchers told a tale of a 30-foot shark he had seen when he was younger. With their large, flat bodies and big pectoral fins angel sharks look nothing like a member of its own species. Their unusual shape actually helps them to camouflage and get lunch every day. They hide under the sand and use their sensory organs to detect prey. When the prey comes close, this ambush predator shoots out of the hiding spot and catches its lunch. Angel sharks prefer the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean where they live solitary life. They mate during spring. Females hatch the eggs inside of their body and after 8- 10 months they deliver 8- 13 babies that can live for more than 30 years. #6 Caribbean Roughshark This frightening species of shark is so rare that literally nothing is known about its social life, behavior and breeding patterns. As the name suggest, Oxynotus caribbaeus lives in the Caribbean Sea, mainly in the waters off of Honduras and the Bahamas. Most likely it remains near the seafloor in deep waters where it feeds of invertebrates and small fish. Like other members of the Angular Roughshark family, the Caribbean Roughshark has unusually large fins for its chubby body covered with rough, greyish skin and spear-like and blade- like teeth that you definitely don’t want to feel on your skin. #5 Dwarf Lanternshark Sharks put fear into people. Mostly because they are dangerous human- eating predators. But, if there is one shark species that is almost adorable and not scary at all- that’s the Dwarf Lanternshark. Meet the world’s smallest shark, so small that can actually fit on your hand. And if that’s not good reason to like this dogfish, wait until you hear that it can actually glow. Of course, bioluminescence is not for esthetic reasons, but to attract pray. The Dwarf Lanternshark can be found off the coast of Venezuela and Columbia. #4 Australian Ghost Shark (Callorhinchus milii) The Australian Ghost Shark known also as the Elephant Shark is easy to recognize because of its snout- like trunk. It can be found off the coast of Australia and New Zealand. It has elongated body and shiny silvery white skin with a very sharp spine that is considered to be venomous. Ghost sharks feed on mollusks and shellfish. They mate in spring when adults migrate to bays to lay their eggs on sandy substrates. Females mature later than males and are usually bigger than them. The average lifespan of this marine fish is 15 years. #3 Frilled Shark Chlamydoselachus anguineus- that’s a hell of a hard- to- pronounce name for an odd looking shark than looks straight out of the Natural History museum. The truth is that the Frilled Shark is indeed a prehistoric shark that haven’t evolved much in the last 500 million years hence the ‘extinct animal look’. This living fossil is found in most of the Earth’s oceans but usually lives in Japan at depths of 1, 500 meters in the sea. Its snake like body can reach a length of four meters. Frilled sharks have strong flexible jaws and over 300 sharp teeth to devour other sharks and octopuses. #2 Angular Roughshark By now you’ve probably got an idea about how great shark’s diversity truly is. Yet, this mysterious, bizarre looking shark species manages to surprise us with its unusually big fins and rough scales known as denticles that cover its entire body. Their diet consists of worms and mollusks. Oxynotus centrina is truly a rare and vulnerable species that you can catch a glimpse of in the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic. #1 Goblin Shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) At first glance, Goblin sharks look pretty much like the common shark. When they go for a bite all that changes and they become a real deep- sea monsters with their protruding jaws that can extend to catch the prey similar to the way humans stick their tongue out. Although, Goblin sharks have been observed in parts of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean, they are extremely rare. They are also called Vampire Sharks due to their sensitivity to sunlight.

I go out to The Logan River where I get STABBED by the worlds DEADLIEST fish but still manage to catch some Bull sharks. The Story: Well over the past few weeks I've been searching for Bull Sharks and after traveling to a few different places, using different bait and I had NO LUCK. Then my Uncle Steven told me that one of the best places to catch BULL SHARKS is in the Logan River, and the 2 best baits to use is freshwater eel, or live mullet. So a week later I travelled up to Logan & went fishing with him to try and catch some Bull Sharks so we could show you how to catch and release a Shark. After heading out to the junction of the Logan & Albert Rivers, we threw the anchor down, chucked in the baits and started fishing, and in no time I was hooked up to a BULL SHARK!!
