Here are some Things to do in NYC :) This 1st of a "Things to do in NYC" is the BASICS. I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. I didn't "forget" to list anything. This is just the first video and trust their are a million things to do. Sorry for not including Brooklyn. I rarely go out there and didn't have footage to include in this video. But here goes!

Need to get around? Rent a bike! I have yet to try this but it seems fabulous! Save your feet and cover more ground. These bikes and bike spots are all over the city. A perfect way to burn calories and see more of the city faster.

Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

In this new video tour, New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ) presents you a great way to learn about Central Harlem and West Harlem, the historic neighborhood in New York City! You will learn many lesser-known aspects of the fabulous neighborhood just a short subway ride away from midtown and downtown Manhattan.

Harlem is a large, historical area in northern Manhattan. It's a major residential, cultural and business center. It stretches from the East River west to the Hudson River between 155th Street to the north and 110th Street to the south, which is the northern boundary of Central Park.
Harlem is so large, in fact, that it would be impossible to cover in just one video. So instead, our first stop in our Harlem series will be Central Harlem & West Harlem!
Harlem History:
Harlem was originally a Dutch village founded around 1658. It was named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. In the early 20th century many African Americans moved to this area and in the 1920s and 30s many famous artists, musicians and businessmen became well known in Harlem and took Black culture to a higher level, in a movement known as the Harlem Renaissance.
The Studio Museum of Harlem -- 124 West 125th Street
At The Studio Museum of Harlem, there is more about black history including guided tours, readings and exhibitions of African American art and culture. There is a suggested donation for entry.
The Apollo Theater - 253 West 125th Street
The Apollo Theater is one of the most famous and historic music hall in the U.S. This famous club is almost exclusively associated with African American music and performance. During the Harlem Renaissance and specifically in 1934, the Apollo Theater introduced its regular Amateur Night shows, during which many new stars were born and legends were made. In fact the Apollo launched the careers of famous artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey...just to name a few. During amateur night, the audience would clap to approve the performers they liked and "boo" the performers they weren't too excited about. At that point an "executioner", a man with a broom, would sweep the bad performers off the stage. Even today, every Wednesday is Amateur Night at the Apollo.

Shopping in Harlem -- 125th Street
125th Street runs from east to west and is considered the Main Street of Harlem. Since 2001 many sections of the street have been developed with new stores, such as Old Navy, H&M;, Starbucks Coffee and the famous Magic Johnson Theaters, a chain of movie theaters, developed by the famous African American basketball player, Magic Johnson. So you can definitely spend a fun day.

If you are planning a trip to New York, you should definitely consider Harlem as a home base. It's just a short subway ride away from midtown and downtown Manhattan and furnished apartment rentals are generally less expensive in Harlem than other areas of Manhattan. Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Harlem Meer is a place many New Yorkers have never even seen. It's located in the far northern end of Central Park. Most visitors confine their walking or biking to the area below the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Those are great places to visit, to be sure, but Harlem Meer was a present surprise I found one morning while exploring the walking trails north of the Reservoir.
I did a little research and learned Central Park designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux named this man-made water body "the Meer," which is Dutch for "lake." It was in commemoration of the 17th Century European settlers who first settled and inhabited Harlem.
Today, families are drawn to the Meer for catch-and-release fishing, skating and swimming at Lasker Rink and Pool, and two nearby playgrounds.
The Meer is also a wildlife habitat fish, turtles, and waterfowl live.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center sits at the North end. It's a visitor center run by the Central Park Conservancy. According to the Meer's official website,
"The Center hosts free community programs, seasonal exhibits, and holiday celebrations. There's also live music on the plaza in the summer."

Harlem is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan, which since the 1920s has been a major African-American residential, cultural and business center. Originally a Dutch village, formally organized in 1658, it is named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. Harlem was annexed to New York City in 1873.
Harlem has been defined by a series of boom-and-bust cycles, with significant ethnic shifts accompanying each cycle. Black residents began to arrive en masse in 1904, with numbers fed by the Great Migration. In the 1920s and 1930s, the neighborhood was the focus of the "Harlem Renaissance", an outpouring of artistic and professional works without precedent in the American black community. New York's revival in the late 20th century has led to renewal in Harlem as well. By 1995, Harlem was experiencing social and economic gentrification. Though the percentage of residents who are black peaked in 1950, the area remains predominantly black.

It stretches from the East River west to the Hudson River between 155th Street to the north and 110th Street to the south, which is the northern boundary of Central Park. Harlem is so large, in fact, that it would be impossible to cover in just one video. So instead, our first stop in our Harlem series will be Central Harlem & West Harlem! Harlem History: Harlem was originally a Dutch village founded around 1658. It was named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. In the early 20th century many African Americans moved to this area and in the 1920s and 30s many famous artists, musicians and businessmen became well known in Harlem and took Black culture to a higher level, in a movement known as the Harlem Renaissance. The Studio Museum of Harlem -- 124 West 125th Street At The Studio Museum of Harlem, there is more about black history including guided tours, readings and exhibitions of African American art and culture. There is a suggested donation for entry. The Apollo Theater - 253 West 125th Street The Apollo Theater is one of the most famous and historic music hall in the U.S. This famous club is almost exclusively associated with African American music and performance. During the Harlem Renaissance and specifically in 1934, the Apollo Theater introduced its regular Amateur Night shows, during which many new stars were born and legends were made. In fact the Apollo launched the careers of famous artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey...just to name a few. During amateur night, the audience would clap to approve the performers they liked and "boo" the performers they weren't too excited about. At that point an "executioner", a man with a broom, would sweep the bad performers off the stage. Even today, every Wednesday is Amateur Night at the Apollo. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town. You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Click on http://amzn.to/1OpOjvO. Harlem Meer is a place many New Yorkers have never even seen. It's located in the far northern end of Central Park. Most visitors confine their walking or biking to the area below the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Those are great places to visit, to be sure, but Harlem Meer was a present surprise I found one morning while exploring the walking trails north of the Reservoir. I did a little research and learned Central Park designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux named this man-made water body "the Meer," which is Dutch for "lake." It was in commemoration of the 17th Century European settlers who first settled and inhabited Harlem. Today, families are drawn to the Meer for catch-and-release fishing, skating and swimming at Lasker Rink and Pool, and two nearby playgrounds. The Meer is also a wildlife habitat fish, turtles, and waterfowl live. The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center sits at the North end. It's a visitor center run by the Central Park Conservancy. According to the Meer's official website, "The Center hosts free community programs, seasonal exhibits, and holiday celebrations. There's also live music on the plaza in the summer." -

Click on http://amzn.to/1OpOjvO. This is just a short video I put together of East River Plaza shopping mall in Harlem, New York City, to help anyone who's going there for the first time. East River Plaza is located at 116th St. next to the FDR Expressway which sits along the East River on the East Side of Manhattan. So it's easily accessible (depending on traffic volume) from just about anywhere in New York City's boroughs. There's plenty of parking and there's also an inexpensive car service you can hire if you don't have your own vehicle. The First Avenue and Second Avenue bus lines are just a few blocks away, and it's not hard to get a taxi. If you come in your own car, be aware that you have to pay at any one of a number of bright yellow kiosks set up outside and inside the parking lot. Make sure you take advantage of one of these, and also make sure you get a ticket when you pay - not just a receipt. The ticket works in the automatic gate at the exit. The receipt does not. You'' wind up paying the full day rate if you don't have a ticket - AND you'll hold up traffic behind you while you're figuring out what's wrong. You'll find that the New Yorkers in the cars behind you will not be happy, and will say so. The area is very safe. Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. Harlem is a large, historical area in northern Manhattan. It's a major residential, cultural and business center. It stretches from the East River west to the Hudson River between 155th Street to the north and 110th Street to the south, which is the northern boundary of Central Park.
Harlem is so large, in fact, that it would be impossible to cover in just one video. So instead, our first stop in our Harlem series will be Central Harlem & West Harlem!
Harlem History:
Harlem was originally a Dutch village founded around 1658. It was named after the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands. In the early 20th century many African Americans moved to this area and in the 1920s and 30s many famous artists, musicians and businessmen became well known in Harlem and took Black culture to a higher level, in a movement known as the Harlem Renaissance.
The Studio Museum of Harlem -- 124 West 125th Street
At The Studio Museum of Harlem, there is more about black history including guided tours, readings and exhibitions of African American art and culture. There is a suggested donation for entry.
The Apollo Theater - 253 West 125th Street
The Apollo Theater is one of the most famous and historic music hall in the U.S. This famous club is almost exclusively associated with African American music and performance. During the Harlem Renaissance and specifically in 1934, the Apollo Theater introduced its regular Amateur Night shows, during which many new stars were born and legends were made. In fact the Apollo launched the careers of famous artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey...just to name a few. During amateur night, the audience would clap to approve the performers they liked and "boo" the performers they weren't too excited about. At that point an "executioner", a man with a broom, would sweep the bad performers off the stage. Even today, every Wednesday is Amateur Night at the Apollo.

It's just a short subway ride away from midtown and downtown Manhattan and furnished apartment rentals are generally less expensive in Harlem than other areas of Manhattan. Don't forget that we have apartments not only in Harlem but also in many other neighborhoods of New York City.

Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Harlem Meer is a place many New Yorkers have never even seen. It's located in the far northern end of Central Park. Most visitors confine their walking or biking to the area below the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. Those are great places to visit, to be sure, but Harlem Meer was a present surprise I found one morning while exploring the walking trails north of the Reservoir.
I did a little research and learned Central Park designers Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux named this man-made water body "the Meer," which is Dutch for "lake." It was in commemoration of the 17th Century European settlers who first settled and inhabited Harlem.
Today, families are drawn to the Meer for catch-and-release fishing, skating and swimming at Lasker Rink and Pool, and two nearby playgrounds.
The Meer is also a wildlife habitat fish, turtles, and waterfowl live.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center sits at the North end. It's a visitor center run by the Central Park Conservancy. According to the Meer's official website,
"The Center hosts free community programs, seasonal exhibits, and holiday celebrations. There's also live music on the plaza in the summer."

This is just a short video I put together of East River Plaza shopping mall in Harlem, New York City, to help anyone who's going there for the first time.
East River Plaza is located at 116th St. next to the FDR Expressway which sits along the East River on the East Side of Manhattan. So it's easily accessible (depending on traffic volume) from just about anywhere in New York City's boroughs.
There's plenty of parking and there's also an inexpensive car service you can hire if you don't have your own vehicle. The First Avenue and Second Avenue bus lines are just a few blocks away, and it's not hard to get a taxi.
If you come in your own car, be aware that you have to pay at any one of a number of bright yellow kiosks set up outside and inside the parking lot. Make sure you take advantage of one of these, and also make sure you get a ticket when you pay - not just a receipt. The ticket works in the automatic gate at the exit. The receipt does not. You'' wind up paying the full day rate if you don't have a ticket - AND you'll hold up traffic behind you while you're figuring out what's wrong. You'll find that the New Yorkers in the cars behind you will not be happy, and will say so.
The area is very safe.
