Richmond vigil held in soldiarity with troops and military families resisting war and other vigils across Virginia
At noon on Friday, August 26, 2005, about 40 people attended an anti-war vigil on the steps of the federal courthouse at 10th street and Main street in downtown Richmond. This vigil was organized by the Virginia Anti-War Network (VAWN) as a statewide action, with vigils also taking place in Augusta County and Blacksburg. As protesters stood with signs that called on motorists to "Honk for Peace", Virginia's capital city seemed more like San Francisco. Speaking in reference to the number of honks received, Christie Burwell explained that "you can really see the change in perceptions; people are reacting more positively than a year ago."

"Fan Residents Backing Cindy" stand vigil on the Boulevard

Cindy, whose son was killed while serving in the Iraq war, has attracted growing attention for her bold anti-war protest. Nearly two weeks into her public vigil, she urged supporters around the country to hold anti-war vigils in their home towns. The call was passed around by Moveon.org.

Postcards From Crawford
Notes from first telephone contact with Iraq Veteran against the War, Charlie Anderson, from Virginia Beach - who is on site at Camp Casey for Operation Noble Cause:
"Last evening the cemetery at Camp Casey in Crawford was vandalized as a man in a pick up truck drove through the makeshift memorial. Most residents of the camp were attending a prayer service and no one was injured.... The group on the ground are working to replace the nearly 500 crosses destroyed by the vandalism. The crosses (patterned after Arlington West) have served as a unifying focus at Camp Casey, where both counter demonstrators and supporters have given used them to memorialize the US soldiers killed in Iraq...."

"I think the president ought to meet with this mother," said Sen. George Allen, a Virginia Republican."
The Crawford Peace House, Code Pink, Military Families Speak Out (MFSO), Vietnam Vets Against War (VVAW), VFP and a host of other organizations are working together to support Cindy...Many thanks to Cindy and the Volunteers.

California Minutemen pack up; Xenophobes' plans ruined by popular resistance
A report from Jen Lawhorne, RVA IMCista, and Onto, San Diego IMCista:
The Minutemen leave California left California as a failure, drawing few people to their project while encountering strong resistance from a broad coalition of opposition.
Down and out, unsuccessful and ultimately ineffective, the California Minutemen packed up on Friday from their base camp, leaving two days earlier than planned, rudely missing the “Good Riddance Going Away Party? that the Gente Unida coalition planned for Saturday.
