Anne Bonny (8 March 1702 – 22 April 1782) was an Irish woman who became a famous female pirate, operating in the Caribbean. What little is known of her life comes largely from A General History of the Pyrates.
Little is known of Bonny's life, particularly prior to her arrival in the Bahamas, although it is estimated that she was born on March 8, 1702. Official records and contemporary letters dealing with her life are scarce and most modern knowledge stems from Charles Johnson's A General History of the Pyrates (a contemporary collection of pirate biographies, thought to be well embellished).
At first, Anne's family had a rough start in their new home. Her mother died shortly after they arrived in North America. Her father attempted to become an attorney there, but did not do well. Eventually, Anne's father joined the more profitable merchant business and accumulated for the two of them a substantial fortune.
When Bonny was 13, she supposedly stabbed a servant girl in the stomach with a table knife. Bonny was a red-haired beauty and considered a good catch. She married a poor sailor and small-time pirate named James Bonny. James Bonny hoped to win possession of his father-in-law's estate, but Anne was disowned by her father.

Plot: Piracy has been a part of North and South Carolina's history for many centuries. Their adventures have been well documented through pirate trial documents and in numerous volumes written of their bloody exploits on the high seas. South Carolina ETV examines the lives of these pirates and follows their adventures during the period known as "The Golden Age of Piracy". "This period - roughly between 1690 and 1725, was an important time in Carolina's early history," affirms Producer Bruce Mayer. "This was the era that saw pirates the likes of Stede Bonnet, Calico Jack, Edward Low, Charles Vane, Anne Bonny & Mary Read - and the notorious Blackbeard, rise to prominence. This certainly must have been an extremely lively time as thousands of pirates infested the inlets and towns along the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts!" Trans-Atlantic trade was disrupted by pirates seeking their plunder - and merchant ships from ports around the globe attempted to tip-toe around these swifter pirate vessels to deliver their cargoes. Remarkably - for decades piracy was tolerated by local officials in coastal towns like Charleston South Carolina but especially around Bath North Carolina. The reasons it was discovered - was that many of these town officials were engaged in trading their protection to pirates - from the hangman's noose, for a share of the illegal plunder looted from merchant ships! Commentators on "Pirates of the Carolinas" include: Mike Brown, writer and pirate historian from Charleston, SC - Nancy Roberts, writer of over two dozen books on pirates and Carolina ghosts from Charlotte NC - John Walker, Blackbeard historian from Bardonia, New York - and David Moore, Curator of Nautical Archaeology, North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort NC. Actress and voice over artist Julie Berry of London, England narrates "Pirates of the Carolinas."

It was you who lied, it was me who paid

My castle of dreams plunged to the ground
How can you face me after what you've done?
You've shattered my dreams one by one

Don't old memories make you long for daylight?
You'll pay the price after having your fun
You'll regret each mistake one by one

For worldly goods, you left me cold
You're happy now but the time will come
