Deputies seize drugs, guns in Tyler County h
TYLER COUNTY- by Haley BullTyler
County deputies are investigating what's behind a rash of burglaries in the county's north end and an influx in methamphetamine. Investigators said evidence left at one of the burglary scenes led them to a drug bust. Now, they're working to determine whether what they found is tied to the other crimes.
Tuesday afternoon, deputies said they conducted a search warrant at a house off
C.R. 3000. Investigators said inside and outside the home they seized about 30 grams of methamphetamine, pills, marijuana, packaging, more than $2,
000 in cash, two vehicles and 20 guns."We recovered them from under the beds, in the attic, under insulation, so they were obviously trying to conceal those,"
Tyler County Deputy Jeremy Byrum said Wednesday as he showed the items."Some of these guns, like I said, we know are gonna be stolen, we're just trying to tie it all in and this investigation that you see here is far from over," Tyler County
Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said.Deputies said they arrested
Brandy Cottle, 34, at the house and
Pete Hudson, 40, when he drove up to the home during the raid. Investigators said both are charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance."The amount of methamphetamines we're talking about and the packaging and you know the paraphernalia involved, there's no doubt in our mind that he was a distributor in our county," Weatherford said.Investigators said
Hudson already had a warrant for theft
and was arrested last month in
Jasper County for possession of a controlled substance."We've noticed there's been an influx of burglaries and we're linking that all back to the methamphetamine use it seems like," Weatherford said. While investigators work to determine if there's a link between the couple and rash of burglaries, there's no question the guns and drugs are a growing problem, one that's prompting the sheriff to send a message.
"If you're in the narcotics business, if you're a user, if you're breaking into homes, I mean we're gonna be there and we're gonna be after you," Weatherford said. The
ATF is assisting in the investigation. Investigators said they are looking into the possibility of federal charges and charges of endangering a child. Deputies said two children were inside the home during the raid, and the guns and drugs were easily in reach of the kids.
