(1979) Just because you're nobody It doesn't mean that you're no good Just because there's a reason It doesn't mean it's understood It doesn't make it alright It doesn't make it alright It's the worst excuse in the world And it, it doesn't make it alright Some people think they're really clever To smash your head against the wall Then they say "you got it my way" They really think they know it all It doesn't make it alright It doesn't make it alright It's the worst excuse in the world And it, it doesn't make it alright Just because you're a black boy Just because you're a white It doesn't mean you've got to hate him It doesn't mean you've got to fight It doesn't make it alright It doesn't make it alright It's the worst excuse in the world And it, it doesn't make it alright Just because you're nobody (D Goldberg / Jerry Dammers)
(1980) Each Day I walk along this lonely street Trying to find, find a future New pair of shoes are on my feet Cos' fashion is my only culture Nothing ever change, oh no Nothing ever change People say to me just be yourself It makes no sense to follow fashion How could I be anybody else I don't try, I've got no reason Nothing ever change, oh no Nothing ever change I'm just living in a life without meaning I walk and walk, do nothing I'm just living in a life without feeling I talk and talk, say nothing Nothing ever change, oh no Nothing ever change I walk along this same old lonely street Still trying to find, find a reason Policeman comes and smacks me in the teeth I don't complain, it's not my function Nothing ever change, oh no Nothing ever change They're just living in a life without meaning I walk and walk, do nothing They're just playing in a life without thinking They talk and talk, say nothing I'm just living in a life without feeling I walk and walk, I'm dreaming I'm just living in a life without feeling I talk and talk, say nothing I'm just living in a life without meaning I walk and walk, do nothing (Lynval Golding)

On December 17th, 1977 gave a legendary performance on Saturday Night Live and was subsequently banned from the show for twelve years. On December 17, 1977, when he appeared on Saturday Night Live, Elvis Costello was 23 years old. His debut album, My Aim Is True, had just come out in America a month earlier. When the Sex Pistols were unable to appear on the show as planned, Costello and his recently formed band, the Attractions, got their big break. They were supposed to play his single “Less Than Zero' but only a few bars into the song, Costello put a stop to it. “I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen,” he said, “but there’s no reason to do this song here.” At that point he and the band launched into “Radio Radio,” a song that takes a jab at corporate-controlled broadcasting. Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels was furious. According to some reports, he raised his middle finger at Costello and kept it up until the unapproved song was over. Costello was banned from the show for nearly 12 years. Elvis admits that he was copying Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix had done the same thing on the Lulu Show, when he went into an unscheduled rendition of the Cream song 'Sunshine Of Your Love'. Most of the stills here are from that Saturday Night Show along with other pics from the period.

The Specials, also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry.[1] Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude", and had a "more focused and informed political and social stance" than other ska groups. The band wore mod-style "1960s period rude boy outfits (pork pie hats, tonic and mohair suits, and loafers)."[2] In 1980, the song "Too Much Too Young", the lead track on their The Special AKA Live! EP, reached number one in the UK.[3] In 1981, the unemployment-themed single "Ghost Town" also hit number one in the UK Singles Chart.[1] 01.Gangsters 02.A Message To You Rudy 03.Nite Klub 04.Concrete Jungle 05.Too Much Too Young 06.Blank Expression 07.Doesn't Make It Alright 08.Rude Buoys Outa Jail 09.Rat Race 10.Man At C&A; 11.Do Nothing 12.Stereotypes 13.International Jet Set 14.Friday Night, Saturday Morning 15.Why? 16.Ghost Town 17.What I Like Most About You Is Your Girlfriend 18.Racist Friend 19.War Crimes 20.Nelson Mandela

IMDb 2015-03-31Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla]; born 18 July 1918) is a South African politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, the first ever to be elected in a fully representative democratic election. Before being elected President, Mandela was a militant anti-apartheid activist, and the leader and co-founder of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). In 1962 he was arrested and convicted of sabotage and other charges, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Mandela went on to serve 27 years in prison, spending many of these years on Robben Island. Following his release from prison on 11 February 1990, Mandela led his party in the negotiations that led to the establishment of democracy in 1994. As President, he frequently gave priority to reconciliation, while introducing policies aimed at combating poverty and inequality in South Africa.
In South Africa, Mandela is often known as Madiba, his Xhosa clan name; or as tata (Xhosa: father). Mandela has received more than 250 awards over four decades.
Elvis Costello (born Declan Patrick MacManus, 25 August 1954) is an English singer-songwriter. He came to prominence as an early participant in London's pub rock scene in the mid-1970s and later became associated with the punk/New Wave genre. Steeped in word play, the vocabulary of Costello's lyrics is broader than that of most popular songs. His music has drawn on many diverse genres; one critic described him as a "pop encyclopaedia", able to "reinvent the past in his own image".
Costello has won multiple awards in his career, including a Grammy Award, and has twice been nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. In 2003, Elvis Costello & the Attractions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Costello number 80 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Costello was born Declan Patrick MacManus in St Mary's Hospital, London, the son of Lilian Alda (née Ablett, b. 1927, Liverpool) and Ross MacManus (1927–2011), a musician and bandleader. He is of Irish heritage. Costello lived in Twickenham, attending Hounslow Secondary Modern School, which is now St Mark's Catholic Secondary School, in neighbouring Hounslow. With a musically inclined father (who was a jazz trumpeter and sang with The Joe Loss Orchestra), Costello's first broadcast recording was alongside his dad in a television commercial for R. White's Lemonade (I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker). His father wrote and sang the song; Costello provided backing vocals. The advertisement won a silver award at the 1974 International Advertising Festival.

Before The Fame
Evacuation Of The West (a.k.a. No More Kings In Texas)
It was on the day the cowboys were abandoned from the ranch
Middle touch world as a master
They rode their ponies down in the cities of gold
To leave them for ever after
Now the sun was swollen red and old
The earth it was windy, dark and cold
Were the highway ends the desert takes its toll
Sodusty, red and angry
It was a time when men died out on the praire
From not having a decent friend
At nights the ghosts to the more of riders
Was a howl in the candid winds
You can here them crying
Good god, i think they're dying
When them rangers down in dallas
Had all, but given it up and left
And those that hang on hoping
Was trying their best to, to forget
The way those outlaws and desperadoes
Right from the cheapest to the best
Rode in on ponies made of skin and bones
Keep up their rusty guns and went back home
And the governor was sent down from population control
And marshall all was past
Riverboat gamblers put their money on faith
For the time for hope they passed
In the cold blue light of the desert night
There was a thousand starry ships
And men came down from still i don't now where
With death on their fingertips
Now there's no more kings in texas
I swear they rounded up each and everyone
And old atlanta canastoga
Reached from the rocky mountains into the old dead sun
Now anna maria walks the blames alone
The last of a struggling people
She thinks of all those outlaws who wanted to reach for the skies
And got stuck up on a steamboat
Oh, you can hear them crying
Good god, i think they're dying
Free me from this prison, just for a while
Let me out if only for one night on the tiles
From up on the roof I can see the girls so far away
I'm going over the wall, I need a holiday
This is a life sentence, what did you expect?
What you want is not always quite, what you're gonna get
You say you'll never love me
So you can't lock me away
I promise I'll come back
Let me go for just one day
Free me from this prison, just for a while
Let me out if only for one night on the tiles
You hold the key
Please don't throw it away
I promise to come back
Let me out for just one day
This is a life sentence, what do you expect?
What you want is not always quite, what you're gonna get
This is a life sentence, what do you expect?
An icy wind blows through the door
You feel like you've been here before
You tremble and you start to sweat
The symptoms of withdrawal
Alcohol
Why do you do it?
Why do you keep beating me?
You give some people a real good time
But you cause some untold misery
Heroin
Why do you do it?
I don't like what i've seen
You promise someone a real good time
And then you take them from their family
And when your flesh begins to crawl
You'd rather not be here at all
Alcohol
How do you do it?
Please don't do it to me
You give some people a real good time
But you cause some untold misery
Alcohol
Why do you do it?
You ain't gonna do it to me
You give some people a real good time
I like things that go fast
Because I know that good things don't ever last
I like believein', in what I want to
Don't like no one to tell me what to do
And I like the times that we've had
But I cound'nt tell you, what's good or bad
I'm only hopin', that you understand
This feelin' that I'm feelin', when I'm holdin' your hand
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like)
I know what I like to do
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like to do)
I like the sound of breakin' glass
And if you don't believe me, why do you ask?
I like leavin' town, and comin' back home
I'm goin' to show you, when we're all alone
And I like stayin' up all night
Watchin' old movies, 'til the mornin' light
I don't pretend to know, what is right or wrong
But I won't like leavin', if I stay here too long
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like)
I know what I like to do
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like to do)
Well what about you?
And I like, things that don't change
'Cause the more somethin' changes, the more it stays the same
I might be simple, take it easy sometimes
But I can be stubborn, when I've made up my mind
I know what I like
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like)
I know what I like to do
(I know what I like)
I know what I like
(I know what I like to do)
I know what I like to do
(I know what I like)
I know
(I know what I like)
(I know what I like)
(I know what I like to do)
(I know what I like)
(I know what I like)
Looking at the world, through lace curtains
Would they like you out there? You're not certain
Scared of walking down the street
You never know who you might meet
Or who you might bump into
They're out there waiting for you
Housebound
You daren't go out
Because you're housebound
you don't want to go out
Because you're housebound
there's no way out
Because you're housebound
You daren't go out!
Rearrange the ornaments when you're feeling down
Push the hoover round and round what a lovely sound!
Housebound
you're all left out
Because you're housebound
You don't want to go out
Because you're housebound
You scream and shout
Because you're housebound
You daren't go out!
The moths inside the wardrobe
The mirror on the door
Love your latest outfit
That's what friends are for!
Housebound!
you daren't go out
Because you're housebound
you don't want to go out
Because you're housebound
you scream and shout
Because you're housebound
you don't go out!
housebound
You're living in doubt
Because you're housebound
You don't want to go out
Because you're housebound
There's no way out
Because you're housebound
You don't go out!
people calling just distract you from the endless talk
Of changing channel, brightness, volume, colour and contrast
There's a curfew on you, you're losing all contact
You just don't know what to do, You're caught in a housetrap!
Housebound
You're all left out
Because you're housebound
You don't want to go out
Because you're housebound
You scream and shout
Because you're housebound
Why must you record my phone calls?
Are you planning a bootleg LP?
Said you've been threatened by gangsters
Now it's you, that's threatening me
Can't fight corruption with con tricks
They use the law to commit crime
And I dread, dread to think what the future will bring
When we're living in gangster time
Don't call me scar face
Can't interrupt while I'm talking
Or they'll confiscate all your guitars
and catch 22 says if I sing the truth
they won't make me an overnight star
Don't offer us legal protection
They use the law to commit crime
I dread to think what the future will bring
When we're living in gangster time
Yo, a lot of people be steppin' to us like
Y'all from San Francisco right?
Nah 'G' we show a lot of love
But in the state of California
From Humboldt to Oceanside ya dig?
But L.A. is where it all happens for the Dub and Thes One
All you MC's say L.A. when you on stage
And when you do spit that hot verse
We gonna make it happen, man
Who wanna test?
We lickin' off shots in the West
We make believers out the best
Lay the weak to rest
In Southern California ain't no place like this
Have to stuff y'all too and we created this shit
So don't be saggin' young buck in the presence of this
Don't even come from the city and you're runnin' your lips
I'm 'bout to make a call, get the news van out
Explain to Trisha on how your crew ran out
We comin' live from the Trey
Two three, area code, mad clouds of smoke
And ain't no room for snow
Sucka niggaz with sucka beats
Stay in the back seat
And buckle up for the ride
I'm chillin' with bad guys
And got time on my side
'Cause this is my city this is where I live
And if ya bring bad vibes I got something to give
Hangin' out under the sun is an everyday thang
And gettin' crazy in the labs the only way I bang
Don't step to me with that mean face
Buddy, I'm all smiles and I'm countin' the miles
Down Crescent Heights boulevard
Home of the stars
Get ya pulled out ya car for frontin' too hard
Just listen, you ain't down with the streets my brotha?
I can foresee in your future there's some runnin' for cover
A lot of y'all talk a good game, but ain't playin'
I learned about the hood and now feel that's where you're stayin'
Fools be givin' you the mad dog after the show
'Cause we ain't feelin' them flows or your designer clothes
It's phony people in L.A. I counted it's a lot
And if the hanus catch your a bully there claimin' your block
Just get it right its Crescent Heights all day, all night
The community where I was raised, livin' my days
Wishin' I could be the mayor, I'd deport you fools
And send you back to square land 'cause over here we brew
Authentic people in the town
Throw up your dub take a drag
It's Double K, signin' off
From the home of the body bags
Yo, about five years after they kill
Creep up the hype
Wrestle E, movers, the sleepers
Drug dealers, rock beepers
T-tops, Jerry curls, jelly flip-flops for girls
C.B.'s on the strip and a commercial for world
All wheels I whistle to my crew up on the block
The color soundtrack rock the fat burger do box
My L.A, U.S.C, memories are every sticks
Who filed down clowns claimin' the same tricks
On this turf, my roots go deep like Turbo Nerf
And the cops still sweat us, I roll on all blocks
Like I'm sellin' paletas, and rock the bells
Home of the drive-by where they pop the shells
I eat at Chuttles-en-la-baka not Taco Bell
And if your not from the city, then you should probably bail
'Cause a lot of cats are implants
Claimin' our labels something to say
And something to prove and
At the shows with the flows and
They think the crowds groovin'
It's like the four-o-five at five thirty
Nobody's movin'
I'm tired of non-recognition, losin' the mission
To proven to cats that
My soundtracks and L.A. hat
When new jacks strap, New York rap on the block
With a palm tree, it makes me sick
All you underground producers get off Premier's dick
And just chill, I'm headed back to Pe-dro to sit up on the hill
Next to the Korean bell eatin' bizzy bee
Watchin' waves swell high visibility Catalina and sail boats
Hollywood hip hop soaps and sit-com dreams
I make morphine for beat fiends
Support L.A. teens stay trippin' with Cal Green
O.G. Jerry Duffey when I'm on your screen
I'm friends with neighborhood crack heads
And I know Ben
L.A. is the place where I solve my problems
In it I'll never fear, I'll always stay here
If you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to
Be it your sister
Be it your brother
Be it your cousin or your, uncle or your lover
If you have a racist friend
now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to
Be it your best friend
Or any other
Is it your husband or your father or your mother?
Tell them to change their views
Or change their friends
Now is the time, now is the time, for your friendship
to end
So if you know a racist who thinks he is your friend
Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to
Call yourself my friend?
Now is the time to make up your mind, don't try to
pretend
Be it your sister
Be it your brother
Be it your cousin or your uncle or your lover
So if you are a racist
Our friendship has got to end
And if your friends are racists don't pretend to be my
friend
So if you have a racist friend
Now is the time, now is the time for our friendship to
For too long, i have lived in a trap built of lies
But one day i'm gonna breakout because at last i've
realised
Breakdown the door of the trap that you're in
You've got to breakout before the four walls have
closed in
Breakdown the door
Do it you've gotta
You've gotta do what?
You've gotta do what you wanna
You've gotta get out
But you can't because you're up to your neck
And there's no turning back so you try to forget
The cracks have started to appear
You want to get away
Before the fun turns into tears
You wish that you could
Breakdown the door
You've got to breakdown
Before you breakdown
You've got to breakdown, breakdown the door
Go, where?, wherever you want
You'd better go if your gonna
Do what you want
But you can't because you're up to your neck
And there's no turning back so you try to forget
Before the cracks start to appear you want to get away
Before the days turn into the years you wish that you
could
Breakdown the door
Everybody wants to breakdown the door Of the trap that
they're in
Breakout before the four walls have closed in
Breakdown the door
She's a devil in disguise
You can see it in her eyes
She's telling dirty lies
She's a devil in disguise, in disguise
Now a woman like that all she does is hate you
She doesn't know what makes a man a man
She'll talk about the time that she's been with you
She'll speak your name to everyone she can
She's a devil in disguise
You can see it in her eyes
She's telling dirty lies
She's a devil in disguise, in disguise
Unhappiness has been her close companion
Her world is full of jealousy and doubt
It gets her off to see a person crying
She's just the kind that you can't do without
She's a devil in disguise
You can see it in her eyes
She's telling dirty lies
She's a devil in disguise, in disguise
Her number always turns up in your pocket
Whenever you are looking for a dime
It's all right to call her but I'll bet you
The moon is full and you're just wasting time
She's a devil in disguise
You can see it in her eyes
She's telling dirty lies
She's a devil in disguise, in disguise
In disguise, in disguise
In disguise, in disguise
