Jalousie window

A jalousie window US /ˈdʒæləsiː/ or louvre window (Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, United Kingdom) is a window composed of parallel glass, acrylic, or wooden louvers set in a frame. The louvers are joined onto a track so that they may be tilted open and shut in unison to control airflow, usually by turning a crank.

Design

A patent for a basic louvered window was applied for in the US by a Joseph W. Walker, of Malden, Massachusetts, in 1900 and issued November 26, 1901, as patent no. 687705. A popular hand-cranked glass, aluminum, and screen window combination was designed by American engineer Van Ellis Huff and found widespread use in temperate climates before the advent of air-conditioning.

Use

Jalousie windows maximise natural ventilation by allowing airflow through the entire window area. Historically made only of wooden slats or glass panes, they are well suited to mild-winter climates. With mass production they became very common throughout homes in mid-20th-century Florida, Hawaii, southern California, the deep South, and Latin America. In cooler regions they were rapidly adopted to porches and sunrooms. They were also widely used in mobile homes during the 1950s and 1960s before most manufacturers began switching to sliding and sash windows in subsequent decades.

Jacob Gade

Jacob Thune Hansen Gade (Vejle, Denmark, November 29, 1879 – February 20, 1963, Assens) was a Danish violinist and composer, mostly of orchestral popular music. He is remembered today for a single tune, the familiar Jalousie, also known as Jalousie 'Tango Tzigane' and Tango Jalousie.

Jacob Thune Hansen Gade was born in Vlejel, Denmark on November 29, 1879 and died on February 20, 1963. He belonged to a family of musicians. His grandfather and his father used to go around the nearby villages to play at all kinds of parties. And it was natural that, since early age, he as well began to play and was another member of the musical group.

He was 9 when he made his debut as trumpeter. He might have been an attraction because only a year later he was invited to Copenhagen to become a soloist in the orchestra of the Tivoli Garden, a famous amusement park. It was only at age 12 when he began to study violin, firstly with his father and later with teachers of greater knowledge. Soon he evidenced his ambition, he wanted to be recognized and for that he decided to move to the capital.

Jalousie 'Tango Tzigane'

Jalousie, is a tango written by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925. Its full title is Jalousie 'Tango Tzigane' (Jealousy 'Gypsy Tango' ) and it soon became popular around the world and is today a classic in the modern songbook.

Music

The work consists of two themes – the first “a temperamental theme in D minor”, followed by a “lyrical section in D major”, both with a typical tango rhythm. Although it became Gade’s most popular and successful work, he wrote successor tangos, such as the 'Romanesca, Tango' in 1933.

Composition

The composer claimed that the mood of the piece had been inspired by his reading a sensational news report of a crime of passion, and 'jealousy' became fixed in his mind.

Gade was principal conductor of the 24-piece orchestra of the important Palads Cinema in Copenhagen at the time he composed the piece. He wrote it at Tibirke Mølle, north Zealand, where he had a holiday home, as part of the musical accompaniment for the Danish premiere of the silent film Don Q, Son of Zorro. It was performed under Gade's baton on the opening night, 14 September 1925.

Un gars, une fille

Un gars, une fille (French pronunciation: ​[œ̃ ɡɑ yn fij], A Guy, A Girl) is the title of a Quebec comedy television series created by Guy A. Lepage and broadcast on Radio-Canada, as well as the title of its French adaptation on France 2. It is one of the most successful Quebec television shows, with a concept exported to more than thirty markets around the world. It is the first Québécois television program to be adapted in the United States (see below).

Overview

A typical episode features several vignettes of the daily everyday life of a couple with the camera mostly centered upon them, often cropping out other characters, giving it its unique visual style. The duo receive friends for supper, go to the convenience store or leave on a trip and sometimes get on each other's nerves. Their quirks and loving bickering provide therefore much of the humor of the program. The graphic design style associated to the original Un gars, une fille, which consists of a palette of pastel blue and pink and rough lines and scribblings (seen in the transition graphics, see Original section), as well as a logo with simulated printing mistakes and smears, have been imitated for much of the other versions, with the notable exception of the American version. The character names are often those of the actors, as in the first version.

La Fouine

Laouni Mouhid (born December 25, 1981 in Trappes, Yvelines), commonly known by his stage name La Fouine (French pronunciation: ​[laˈfwin]; English: The Weasel) or Fouiny Baby, is a French rapper, singer, songwriter and actor of Moroccan origin. He owns his own record label, Banlieue Sale Music, and his own clothing line called "Street Swagg". He is an established figure in French rap.

Biography

Born in Trappes in a family of seven children to a Moroccan father and mother from Casablanca, Laouni grew outside Paris in the Yvelines. He stopped his studies at the age of fifteen to devote himself to rap and took his first music lessons. La Fouine, who was called "Forcené" was an active member of the collective "GSP". It was part of the short-lived group "FORS" with DJ RV (Hervé), Le Griffon (Tarek Medimegh) And LaylaD (Layla Melloni Forcé), created mainly to participate at 2 R puissance ART in La Verrière, where he won the second prize.

Since then, Laouni married, then divorced after becoming the father of a little girl, born in 2002, named Fatima, named after La Fouine's mother . The death of his mother in 2005 inspired his song "Je regarde là-haut" He also experienced dark periods in foster homes and prisons. "I was only fifteen when I was expelled from school and placed in foster homes. I became an insomniac for most of the time. But it did not take me to sleep with me, if the cops were looking for me directly. I slept with people in cars, premises, etc.. It was misery", he said to the magazine Planète Rap.
