The University of Georgia welcomes over 35,000 students to campus this week, from seniors arriving back in Athens for the last time, to more than 5,000 freshmen heading to their first day of college life. Days before the end of the school year, a car crash killed four college students and seriously injured another outside of Athens, Georgia.
The Georgia State Patrol says the five young women — all students at the University of Georgia — were traveling northbound Wednesday night when their Toyota Camry crossed into the southbound lanes and hit another car.
The driver of that car suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the Camry sustained serious injuries, and the four passengers in her car were all killed.
"The loss of any student is very difficult. A tragedy of this magnitude is truly devastating," UGA president Jere W. Morehead said.
According to WAGA, investigators don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Students on UGA's campus said they were reminded how quickly things can change.
"Everyone's echoing, 'Hey everybody start driving more safely, be very careful,’ because it only takes the blink of an eye to have everything that you worked for and everything that your family ... everything just taken away," a student said.
The state’s governor ordered flags flown at half-staff in honor of the students who died. He tweeted, "Today, we are all Bulldogs.”

The University of Georgia, founded in 1785, and commonly referred to as UGA or simply Georgia, is the oldest and largest of Georgia's institutions of higher learning and along with the College of William and Mary and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill claims the title of the oldest public university in the United States.
The University of Georgia offers over 140 degree programs in a wide array of disciplines. Consisting of thirteen libraries spread across multiple campuses, UGA Libraries contains over a total of 4.7 million volumes and one of nation’s largest map collections. The University of Georgia is one of 126 member institutions that comprise the Association of Research Libraries.
UGA has three main campuses; the largest one is the main campus in Athens, Georgia and the two others are located in Tifton, Georgia and Griffin, Georgia. Days before the end of the school year, a car crash killed four college students and seriously injured another outside of Athens, Georgia.
The Georgia State Patrol says the five young women — all students at the University of Georgia — were traveling northbound Wednesday night when their Toyota Camry crossed into the southbound lanes and hit another car.
The driver of that car suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the Camry sustained serious injuries, and the four passengers in her car were all killed.
"The loss of any student is very difficult. A tragedy of this magnitude is truly devastating," UGA president Jere W. Morehead said.
According to WAGA, investigators don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Students on UGA's campus said they were reminded how quickly things can change.
"Everyone's echoing, 'Hey everybody start driving more safely, be very careful,’ because it only takes the blink of an eye to have everything that you worked for and everything that your family ... everything just taken away," a student said.
The state’s governor ordered flags flown at half-staff in honor of the students who died. He tweeted, "Today, we are all Bulldogs.”

This is a one minute walk-through of my design proposal for my Studio IV course at the University of Georgia CIDA-accredited Interior Design program. This was a three-person group project, but I completed all the modeling, rendering, and animation for this video.
GOAL: The design will connect the local community, on and off The University of Georgia campus, to each other and to the environment. In order to do so, the facility will be designed for visitors to learn about local sustainability practices, o spread awareness of current global environmental issues, and to establish a sustainable culture within the town of Athens, GA.
CONCEPT: We were inspired by the history of this building as a cotton mill from the mid-19th century. The city of Athens has strong ties to its past in the cotton and textile industry. The Oconee River has been an essential life source for the community of Athens, and the native work "Oconee" means "river." The building is set partially on top of the river, and harnessed energy from it to power the original cotton machinery. The juxtaposition of organic and industrial forms drives our concept for this design. The natural flow and shape of the river works with the industrial and mechanized structure of the mill building to produce a product. This symbolic relationship echoes throughout our space.
