I made this trip in early October, 2016. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

- Railfanning in Heavy Snow (Post "Nemo" Blizzard) in Brunswick Maine - Featuring Maine Eastern and Amtrak -
This was an exciting day for me as it is the first time I have seen a plow train in person. Maine Eastern M420 #3573 brought their plow down from Rockland, and is seen arriving in Brunswick from Spring Street. As they are clearing the controlled siding between Church Road and Stanwood Street, they meet Amtrak Downeaster Train 681, with Amtrak 157 leading and Cabbage 90214 trailing.
Then, the plow extra is seen departing Brunswick, passing Maine Eastern station and pausing briefly at the signals at CPL 17.
Lastly, Amtrak 685 is seen arriving in Brunswick with Amtrak 137 leading. Amtrak 39 then leads the way out of town, across Union Street as it heads with an empty train back to Portland. Pan Am had run a snowplow train to clear the mainline all the way past Rock Junction the day before this was filmed, as my friend dcarpine28 got great shots of!

Maine (
i/ˈmeɪn/; French: État du Maine) is a state in New England, in the United States. Maine is the 39th most extensive and the 42nd most populous of the 50 U.S. states. It is bordered by New Hampshire to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec to the east and north, respectively. Maine is the northernmost state in the contiguous United States east of the Great Lakes. It is known for its jagged, rocky coastline; low, rolling mountains; heavily forested interior, and picturesque waterways; and also its seafood cuisine, especially lobster and clams. In spite of its maritime position, it has a continental climate even in coastal areas such as its largest city, Portland. The state capital is Augusta with a population of 19,136 (2010), making it the third least-populous state capital (after Montpelier, Vermont and Pierre, South Dakota) in the nation.
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years.

Brunswick, Maine
Brunswick is a town in Cumberland County in southeastern Maine, United States. The population was 20,278 at the 2010 census. Part of the Portland-South Portland-Biddeford metropolitan area, Brunswick is home to Bowdoin College, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, The Theater Project, and the Maine State Music Theatre. It is also home to Mid Coast Hospital, one of Maine's newest full-service hospitals; and Parkview Adventist Medical Center. It was home to Naval Air Station Brunswick which was permanently closed on May 31, 2011.
History
Settled in 1628 by Thomas Purchase and other fishermen, the area was called by its Indian name, Pejepscot, meaning "the long, rocky rapids part [of the river]". In 1639, Purchase placed his settlement under protection of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. During King Philip's War in 1676, Pejepscot was burned and abandoned, although a garrison called Fort Andros was built on the ruins during King William's War. During the war, in Major Benjamin Church's second expedition a year later, he arrived on 11 September 1690 with 300 men at Casco Bay. He went up the Androscoggin River to the English Fort Pejepscot (present day Brunswick, Maine). From there he went 40 miles up-river and attacked a native village. Three or four native men were shot in retreat; when Church discovered 5 English captives in the wigwams, six or seven prisoners were butchered as an example; and nine prisoners were taken. A few days later, in retaliation, the natives attacked Church at Cape Elizabeth on Purpooduc Point, killing 7 of his men and wounding 24 others. On September 26, Church returned to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

This was an exciting day for me as it is the first time I have seen a plow train in person. Maine Eastern M420 #3573 brought their plow down from Rockland, and is seen arriving in Brunswick from Spring Street. As they are clearing the controlled siding between Church Road and Stanwood Street, they meet Amtrak Downeaster Train 681, with Amtrak 157 leading and Cabbage 90214 trailing.
Then, the plow extra is seen departing Brunswick, passing Maine Eastern station and pausing briefly at the signals at CPL 17.
Lastly, Amtrak 685 is seen arriving in Brunswick with Amtrak 137 leading. Amtrak 39 then leads the way out of town, across Union Street as it heads with an empty train back to Portland. Pan Am had run a snowplow train to clear the mainline all the way past Rock Junction the day before this was filmed, as my friend dcarpine28 got great shots of!

My tour originally had been scheduled to go through the south into Arkansas, but in Ohio, Chris invited me to travel with him to the East Coast where he and Rob Reid were planning on doing about a week of shows together. Pat is a RN with 37 years of experience and decided to try travel nursing later in life after her children grew up and left her home. Pat applied for a travel nurse job with American Traveler and loved the entire experience, plus she took her husband along. Chelsey is a young RN from Georgia; she met several new friends while travel nursing and even tried sushi for the first time! She said "we don’t have sushi in Georgia!"

Chelsey, RN, American Traveler: When I first decided to be a travel nurse, so I just started surfing the web, filled out the application online and a consultant contacted me within a day and we took it from there and it was love at first site with American Traveler.
Kelly, Recruiter: I have a lot of travel nurses that are currently working for me all throughout the United States. I have a lot in Arizona, California, Wisconsin. I have one going to Maine, a lot in Florida. We do become very, very close to them. You almost become an extension of their family.
Chelsey, RN, Travel Nurse: My recruiter has been great. I can call her at any time and she's there for me to answer my question, to calm me down if I'm nervous about a new job. It's been excellent.
Kelly, Recruiter: You know, one of the best benefits of travel nursing is being able to have that kind of profession that we can travel the country and see it and experience new places, new people, new hospitals.
Chelsey, RN, American Traveler: I met a lot of my new friends just from day one orientation with the hospital. They have become my tour guides so they take me out on, you know, a little exploratory places. I had sushi for the first time. We don't have sushi in Georgia.
Pat, RN, Travel Nurse: I am a registered nurse and I have been one for 37 years. As a mother of six children, they all just thought, you know, the Baby Boomer hippie had to come out of you, so I'm ready proud of you that you decided to do this and go see parts of the country.
Brandy, Recruiter: We provide the traveler with a fully furnished, private one bedroom, one bath apartment.
Michelle, Housing Coordinator: And these complexes have um, luxury pools with Jacuzzi, 24-hour fitness centers, 24-hour business centers.
Pat, RN American Traveler: I would highly recommend American Traveler to anyone who is even thinking of becoming a travel nurse. They'll, they'll work with you. Try to place you where you want to be and it's a wonderful way to use your profession and get to see other parts of the country.
Chelsey, RN, Travel Nurse: The advice I would give a new traveler is just to take it for all it's worth, grasp it for everything you can while you have the experience. It’s a great time to get out and spread your wings a little bit. Explore, explore, explore. Meet new people. Let them be your tour guide and, and have fun with it.

As a photojournalist I had a leg up on the visuals but the sound and editing processes were foreign - and often overwhelming - to me. Thanks, Bob, for your optimism and patience.
I had two goals in Maine: 1) To learn what goes into making a video. And 2) go fishing. Thanks to my subject, fishing guide, Don Kleiner, I was able to do both He was often saying, " Put down the camera, this is a great spot". He had a wonderful attitude.
Things technical: I used 4 cameras for this. A Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder for the bulk of the shoot, Nikon p7100 and 5100 for a couple of shots (to see how new digital cameras are handling video) and a Nikon AW100 for underwater and extreme low angles.

Vice is an international magazine focused on arts, culture, and news topics. Founded in 1994 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in later years the company expanded into Vice Media, with divisions including the magazine, a website, a film production company, a record label, and a publishing imprint. As of March 2013, the magazine's editor-in-chief is Rocco Castoro[2] and its global editor is documentary filmmaker Andy Capper.[3]
The magazine's editors have championed the "Immersionist" school of journalism, regarded as a DIY antithesis to the methods practiced by mainstream news outlets, and the monthly publication is frequently focused on a single theme.
Established by Suroosh Alvi, Shane Smith, and Gavin McInnes, the magazine was launched in 1994 as the Voice of Montreal with government funding, and the intention of the founders was to provide work and a community service.[4]
When the editors later sought to dissolve their commitments with the original publisher Alix Laurent, they bought him out and changed the name to Vice in 1996. In search of more streetwear advertising income, the magazine's personnel relocated to New York City in 1999.[5] Andy Capper co-founded the UK division of Vice with Andrew Creighton.
Numerous media sources reported in mid-August 2013 that Rupert Murdoch's corporation 21st Century Fox had invested US$70 million in Vice Media, resulting in a 5 percent stake. Founder Smith has stated: "I grew up being a socialist and I have problems with it because I grew up in Canada [and] I've spent a lot of time in Scandinavia, where I believe countries legislate out creativity. They cut off the tall trees. Everyone's a C-minus. I came to America from Canada because Canada is stultifyingly boring and incredibly hypocritical. Thanks, Canada."[5]

This video is a bit different than the rest.
My tour originally had been scheduled to go through the south into Arkansas, but in Ohio, Chris invited me to travel with him to the East Coast where he and Rob Reid were planning on doing about a week of shows together.
So we drove.
A non-stop 24 hour drive (literally) from Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Boston.
After the incredibly long drive, Chris and I crashed with Rob at his sisters' place in Jamaica Plain. After a solid night of sleep and some food (thanks for the pancakes Martin!), we moved on to Brunswick, Maine and camped out near Monmouth.
One night we stopped at an awesome bar in Hallowell called, The Liberal Cup, where I had THE BEST oatmeal stout I've ever tasted. When we left the bar, we discovered a bookstore totally unlocked next door (at 12:30am) and went in... you can see Rob's thought process about the idea of the bookstore in the video. I encouraged him to use several expletives to describe just how crazy it was.
The following day we wrapped up our camp and headed for the White Mountains in New Hampshire to do some trail hiking up to Mt. Chocorua.
The mountains were incredible and the hike, though difficult at times, was definitely worth the effort.
That night we crashed with some of Chris' friends that he had met on the Appalachian trail when he hiked it from Georgia to Maine a few years ago. They were incredibly hospitable and we were thankful to have a nice warm and dry place to sleep after our long hike.
We then headed back to Boston for one night before moving on to Middleboro. Chris and I discovered just how difficult it was to navigate through Boston's confusing streets, but we made it out and performed again with Rob at The Flat Iron Cafe.
Rob's family came out to the Middleboro show and we were put up by his mother and father for a couple of days. They live on the coast of Buzzards Bay, so we had a chance to do some boating too.
Overall, the past twelve days have been a whirlwind journey around New England with Rob as our tour guide. I've never been to this part of the country before and I'm trying to enjoy the experience of being here versus filming a ton of it...

Maine Eastern M420 #3573 brought their plow down from Rockland, and is seen arriving in Brunswick from Spring Street. As they are clearing the controlled siding between Church Road and Stanwood Street, they meet Amtrak Downeaster Train 681, with Amtrak 157 leading and Cabbage 90214 trailing.
