After putting together a complete list, it turned out to be 23, and I hope this list of attractions will help and inspire you to visit Vietnam’s largest and most exciting city. 1. Binh Tay Market - Binh Tay Market is one of the largest wholesale distribution markets, and a perfect place to go if you’re looking to go shopping in Ho Chi Minh City. 2. Thien Hau Temple (Pagoda) - Located in Chinatown, in District 5, the temple is dedicated to Thien Hau and I really loved the sculptures and the elaborate design of the temple. 3. Museum of Ho Chi Minh City - This museum offers a glimpse into the history and development of the city and Vietnam. 4. Bitexco Financial Tower - This is the tallest building in Saigon, and you can either go to the Skydeck or a cafe at the top for a view of the city. 5. Independence Palace (Reunification Palace) - Probably one of the most well known tourism things to do in Saigon is to visit the Independence Palace, the the former home of the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. 6. Saigon Cathedral of Notre Dame - With the French influence in Vietnam, the Notre Dame cathedral is a beautiful Catholic church. Attend a service or just visit. 7. Central Post Office - Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City is an attraction mainly for its design and architecture. It’s a beautiful building. 8. War Remnants Museum - Although this is not one of the happiest attractions in Saigon, it’s a place to remember and honor the horrible events that are a result of a war. 9. Opera House - Right in Dong Khoi area, and there are still opera shows available. 10. Dong Khoi Street - This is the height of high end shopping in Saigon. 11. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens - The zoo itself is not too great, but the beauty of the Saigon zoo is the botanical gardens, and the lush gardens, and taking a break from the city. 12. FITO Museum (Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine) - I was quite impressed by the Vietnamese medicine private museum - very interactive and educational. 13. San Art Laboratory – If you love modern art, the San Art Laboratory is a great place to see and visit in Saigon. 14. Turtle Lake at Night - If you’re looking for some things to do at night in Saigon, head to Turtle Lake to chill out, relax, hang out with friends, and eat snacks. 15. Ben Thanh Market - One of the most famous things to do in Saigon District 1 is visit the Ben Thanh Market, one of the major central landmarks of the city. 16. Phu My Hung and Starlight Bridge - Located outside of central Ho Chi Minh City, Phu My Hung is a modern development, and a great place to walk around. 17. Water Puppet Show - Though originally from the north of Vietnam, water puppet shows are popular also in Saigon. I went to the Golden Dragon Water Puppet theater. 18. Museum of Vietnamese History - Probably one of the most extensive and important museum showing the history of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. 19. Rooftop Bar - Seeing Saigon from above offers a great perspective. 20. Fine Arts Museum - This was my favorite of all the museums in Saigon. The museum is housed in a well preserved building, and the art is amazing - located right in District 1 across the roundabout from Ben Thanh Market. 21. Jade Emperor Pagoda - Dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the pagoda has a real ancient feel to it, and it’s worth seeing when you visit. 22. Local Wet Market - One of my favorite things to do is visit a local fresh wet market, which you’ll find all over the city. The ingredients, food, and culture, all stand out at fresh markets. 23. Vietnamese Street Food - By my ultimate favorite activity in Saigon is eating street food, and there are an abundance of delicious Vietnamese street foods to sample. Get my food and travel updates: http://migrationology.com/food-news When I was in Saigon, one day I met up with Kyle LeDotNet (http://youtube.com/kyleledotnet), a local vlogger and blogger, for a day of cruising around and eating. We started at one of the most famous restaurants in the city, Bánh Xèo 46A to eat the Vietnamese crepe known as banh xeo. The southern Vietnamese version, as I’m told, is large than other versions around the country, and we ordered their specialities - a huge savory crepe, packed full of pork belly and shrimp and bean sprouts, then folded over and served with a pile of fresh leafy vegetables and Vietnamese sweet fish sauce to dip. It was my first tiem to eat Vietnamese banh xeo, and it was pretty tasty. After the banh xeo, continuing on our Saigon food tour adventures, we then caught a taxi to Bánh Cuốn Hải Nam, a restaurant in the city known for serving Vietnamese banh cuon - like thin rice pancakes filled with a savory filling and rolled, and again, served with the signature sweet Vietnamese fish sauce. I’m a huge lover of banh cuon, and I loved them even before going to Saigon this trip, so I really enjoyed these. The outer wrapping was soft and silly, and the filling was meaty and salty, and you can’t forget about that sweet salty fish sauce, to which I added some chili as well - it was delicious. After two quick meals we headed to a Saigon restaurant called Bình Xuyên 2, sort of an entretainment restaurant in the city - like a full amusement restaurant. People come to this type of restaurant to relax, to spend time with the family, and to feast, and that was the reason we came. The first dish we ordered was a deep fried giant gourami fish (cá tai tượng chiên xù), covered in its own scales and topped with peanuts and shallots. The fish was served along with Vietnamese rice paper, rice vermicelli noodles, and lots of herbs and fresh vegetables, and finally a fermented fish dipping sauce. The combination was incredibly good - it was easily my favorite dish of this Saigon food tour. Next we also ordered a flaming hot pan of pig intestines (dồi trường), seasoned with lime juice and tossed with herbs and vegetables. Again it was delicious and served on a huge flaming hot platter. Our final dish of the meal at Bình Xuyên 2 restaurant was cơm cháy, kind of a burnt rice. It was good and smokey and crispy all at the same time. After our delicious early dinner, we continued on to walk around an area of Saigon known as Phu My Hung, and then proceeded on to Notre Dame cathedral in the heart of the city to experience the snacking culture around there. I had eaten it already a couple of times, but while at Notre Dame, I had a snack called banh trang trung, a piece of Vietnamese rice paper, topped with meat and a quail egg, then roasted over fire. Our final stop was at Kem Nhãn Chú Tám, a legendary Saigon ice cream street where the two shops, right next to each other, fight for business - it was an intense and quite an enjoyable ice cream food adventures. When I walked into VivoCity on opening day I was amazed to see just how many people there were. Saigon's shoppig experience just got even better for residents of Saigon South. Thousands packed this new mall located in District 7's Phu My Hung on Nguyen Van Linh Road. The outside is rather impressive with its lights and inside the mall packs a frigid cold AC worth visiting just for that alone. The mall lacks a designated food court area like other malls in the area including The Crescent Mall and The Parkson Paragon, but it has major restaurants spread throughout its five floors, including my favorites, McDonalds and Kichi Kichi. On the first day most restaurants were packed, so I came back a few days later to experience some delicious food at Sumo BBQ Buffet restaurant, where for aroun 18 dollars you can eat some really high quality proteins from beef to fish. This was a superb meal to say the least. I recommend checking out VivoCity, it easily compares to any mall in Bangkok and is much better than most malls I've been to abroad- including America. 0:00 Street food is readily available here in Saigon, Vietnam, especially inthe later evening hours when people are heading home from work. By random chance while walking along Dinh Tien Hoang St in District 1, with the intention of finding a waffle shop, I spotted this beef platter makeshift restaurant on the sidewalk.at 18 Dinh Tien Hoang. This is Vietnam's famous bo bit tet aka bo ne dish, consisting of beef cooked in oil, three kinds of sausage, some probable ham, two eggs, pate, Laughing Cow cheese, and a sardine You also get a small salad, some bread and a light soft drink for just 45,000 Vietnam Dong!! That's like 2 US dollars! Wow! This place is only open in the late afternoon early evening hours so come later. 7:45 Afterwards, I walked down the street a few steps and spotted a beef jerky papaya salad not too far from the beef steak place. This cart services a few tables in between an alley. The owner was friendly and the salad was a bit spicy for me. This was less than a dollar. Totally worth it on a hot day to just munch on cool green papaya. 11:42 Then we met a really friendly man selling cigarettes. 14:27 We finally made it to the Waffle Place at 120F Dinh Tien Hoang St, but it had copyrighted music playing in the background, so I wasn't able to explain it much. Nevertheless, this is the best place in the entire city to try some waffles. No doubt.
