The New Pollutants Metropolis Rescore is a new soundtrack to the 2010 Restoration Version of Fritz Lang's classic sci-fi epic Metropolis
The New Pollutants https://facebook.com/thenewpollutants are the musical duo of Mister Benjamin Speed http://benjaminspeed.com and DJ TR!P http://facebook.com/finddjtrip. They are thrilled to present their newly composed score to Fritz Lang's classic silent film Metropolis. They perform the score live, accompanied by vocalist Astrid Pill & cellist Zoe Barry.
The original score was conceived, composed & recorded over a 12-month period & had its world premiere at the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival. The Metropolis Re-Score ran a successful season as part Next Wave Festival at ACMI in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games & was performed at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival in 2006. They played it at the Sydney Opera House in 2010 & in Hobart for Mona Foma 2011, which is curated by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes.
In 2011, The New Pollutants have updated & extended their score to coincide with the newly released 2010 restoration, which includes 30 minutes of newly found footage. This will once again premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2011. After the film premiere in 1927, Metropolis has been seen only in shortened or truncated versions, now it can be appreciated in its full glory, with a brand new score by The New Pollutants.

The idea behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.
Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion.
How does it work?
Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.
I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely.
I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.
When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for YouTube. :)

Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction film directed by Fritz Lang. The film was written by Lang and his wife Thea Von Harbou, and starred Brigitte Helm, Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. A silent film, it was produced in the Babelsberg Studios by UFA.
Made in Germany during the Weimar Period, Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia, and follows the attempts of Freder, the son of a wealthy intellectual, and Maria, whose background is not fully explained in the film, to overcome the vast gulf separating the classist nature of their city. Metropolis was filmed in 1925, at a cost of approximately four million ℛℳ. The film was met with a mixed response upon its initial release, with many critics praising its technical achievements while deriding its simplistic and naïve storyline. Due both to its long running-time and footage censors found questionable, Metropolis was cut substantially after its German premiere; large portions of the film were lost over the subsequent decades.

Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion. How does it work? Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me. I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely. I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there. When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. As with last year's project, Metropolis Mayhem was created for the "Summer of Sonic" Convention in 2013. Download the song: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/546951 Recorderdude wrote the lyrics and directed the majority of the scenes, while animation was handled by 792Ashman (Team Sonic), Whitesonic (Team Dark), RGX (Team Rose), TheWax (Team Chaotix) and KaDoYuu (Credits Sequence). We had over 12 different voice actors this time around, as well as background artists, musical composers and audio mixers (Special thanks to Dr. Mack Foxx for compiling all of the scenes - it wasn't easy!) They are thrilled to present their newly composed score to Fritz Lang's classic silent film Metropolis. They perform the score live, accompanied by vocalist Astrid Pill & cellist Zoe Barry.
The original score was conceived, composed & recorded over a 12-month period & had its world premiere at the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival. The Metropolis Re-Score ran a successful season as part Next Wave Festival at ACMI in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games & was performed at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival in 2006. They played it at the Sydney Opera House in 2010 & in Hobart for Mona Foma 2011, which is curated by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes.
In 2011, The New Pollutants have updated & extended their score to coincide with the newly released 2010 restoration, which includes 30 minutes of newly found footage. This will once again premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2011. After the film premiere in 1927, Metropolis has been seen only in shortened or truncated versions, now it can be appreciated in its full glory, with a brand new score by The New Pollutants.

The New Pollutants Metropolis Rescore is a new soundtrack to the 2010 Restoration Version of Fritz Lang's classic sci-fi epic Metropolis
The New Pollutants https://facebook.com/thenewpollutants are the musical duo of Mister Benjamin Speed http://benjaminspeed.com and DJ TR!P http://facebook.com/finddjtrip. They are thrilled to present their newly composed score to Fritz Lang's classic silent film Metropolis. They perform the score live, accompanied by vocalist Astrid Pill & cellist Zoe Barry.
The original score was conceived, composed & recorded over a 12-month period & had its world premiere at the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival. The Metropolis Re-Score ran a successful season as part Next Wave Festival at ACMI in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games & was performed at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival in 2006. They played it at the Sydney Opera House in 2010 & in Hobart for Mona Foma 2011, which is curated by Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes.
In 2011, The New Pollutants have updated & extended their score to coincide with the newly released 2010 restoration, which includes 30 minutes of newly found footage. This will once again premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2011. After the film premiere in 1927, Metropolis has been seen only in shortened or truncated versions, now it can be appreciated in its full glory, with a brand new score by The New Pollutants.

The idea behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.
Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion.
How does it work?
Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.
I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely.
I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.
When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for YouTube. :)

I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.
When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for YouTube. :)

Recorderdude wrote the lyrics and directed the majority of the scenes, while animation was handled by 792Ashman (Team Sonic), Whitesonic (Team Dark), RGX (Team Rose), TheWax (Team Chaotix) and KaDoYuu (Credits Sequence). We had over 12 different voice actors this time around, as well as background artists, musical composers and audio mixers (Special thanks to Dr. Mack Foxx for compiling all of the scenes - it wasn't easy!) The project in total took six months to complete. We all hope that you enjoy this presentation, and remember, you've got to flip the turtles.

The inspiration to do this mix got pretty much initiated when I was thinking about the progress over the technological revolution what humanity has witnessed over the last few millenia. The outstanding effort to evolve as species through knowledge is what gives a promising framework of potentiality for mankinds future.
But not without setbacks and heavy burdens when it comes to these dramatic changes in the climate that we've boosted and set in motion, and thus becoming the biggest challenge we must overcome. It's a long, bumpy road, We must take to succeed!
This mix was also very much build and motivated with the visionary images from the futuristic skyscraper city landscapes and then continued even further to the space exploration and thus the overall idea of humanity's potential trough science and technology as - a new hope to thrive!
Starting from a bit melancholic atmosphere in a rainy midnight neon city lights and building it to a new dawn filled with uplifting excitement and emerging new hope with awareness that not even the sky's the limit for human race.

Metropolis is ruled by the powerful industrialist Joh Fredersen. He looks out from his office in the Tower of Babel at a modern, highly technicized world. Together with the children of the workers, a young woman named Maria reaches the Eternal Gardens where the sons of the city's elite amuse themselves and where she meets Freder, Joh Fredersen's son. When the young man later goes on a search for the girl, he witnesses an explosion in a machine hall, where numerous workers lose their lives. He then realizes that the luxury of the upper class is based on the exploitation of the proletariat. In the Catacombs under the Workers' City Freder finally finds Maria, who gives the workers hope with her prophecies for a better future. His father also knows about Maria's influence on the proletariat and fears for his power. In the house of the inventor Rotwang, Joh Fredersen learns about his experiments to create a cyborg based on the likeness of Hel, their mutual love and Freder's mother. Fredersen orders Rotwang to give Maria's face to the robot in order to send it to the underground city to deceive and stir up its inhabitants.
After the robot Maria has succeeded, a catastrophe ensues. The riotous workers destroy the Heart Machine and as a result the Workers' City, where only the children have remained, is tremendously flooded. The real Maria brings the children to safety along with Freder. When they learn about the disaster, the rebelling masses stop. Their rage is now aimed at the robot Maria, who is captured and burned at the stake. At the same time Rotwang, driven by madness, pursues the genuine Maria across the Cathedral's rooftop, where he ultimately falls to his death. Freder and Maria find each other again. The son devotes himself to his father, mediating between him and the workers. As a consequence, Maria's prophecy of reconciliation between the ruler and those who are mastered (head and hands) triumphs -- through the help of the mediating heart.

La versión inicial de Metrópolis sufrió numerosos cortes y modificaciones en su montaje, especialmente para su estreno en Estados Unidos, que desvirtuaron en buena medida el guion elaborado por Harbou y realizado por Lang. El metraje descartado fue dado por perdido, por lo que la versión conocida durante la mayor parte del siglo XX no era completa; aun así, en 2001 la película fue objeto de una profunda restauración en la que participaron numerosas filmotecas a nivel mundial, hecho que condujo a su designación como Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Sin embargo, en 2008 fue localizada una copia en Buenos Aires (Argentina), en formato de 16 mm, que si bien no presentaba el metraje completo sí incluía la mayor parte de él, lo que supuso la incorporación a la película de un total de 26 minutos prácticamente inéditos desde su estreno inicial. Lamentablemente, el estado de la copia era de mala calidad, pero permitió hacer un nuevo montaje bastante cercano al original, que fue comercializado en 2010

Metropolis was filmed in 1925, at a cost of approximately five million Reichsmarks.[2] The film was met with a mixed response upon its initial release, with many critics praising its technical achievements while deriding its simplistic and naïve storyline.
