Piracy Funds Terrorism

Piracy Funds Terrorism Volume 1, usually referred to simply as Piracy Funds Terrorism, is a mixtape produced by British recording artist M.I.A. and American DJ Diplo featuring vocal tracks intended for M.I.A.'s debut album Arular mashed up with samples of other recordings. The mixtape was produced by the two artists at Diplo's home studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was not officially released, but was distributed at M.I.A.'s live shows and via the internet to promote the release of her much-delayed debut album. Despite its unofficial status, several music publications included it in their listings of the best albums of 2004.

Recording

Recording sessions for Arular, the debut album by M.I.A., took place during 2003 and 2004, and the album was originally scheduled to be released in September 2004. Legal issues relating to the use of samples delayed this release, however, first to December and then into 2005. During the recording process, M.I.A. met DJ Diplo, and expressed an interest in working with him on a track for the album. Although their initial recording sessions together proved fruitless, Diplo conceived the idea of using the existing vocal tracks recorded for the album to produce a mixtape which could be used to promote the delayed full-length album. M.I.A. extended her stay in the United States and the two artists produced the mixtape at his home studio.

Volume 1 (CKY album)

Volume 1 is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band CKY. Recorded at The Ground Hog Studios in Holland, Pennsylvania, it was produced by guitarist Chad I Ginsburg and released on February 27, 1999 by Distant Recordings and Teil Martin International. Since its initial release as Camp Kill Yourself, the album has been reissued by various record labels with different titles and artwork.

Most of the material for Volume 1 was written by vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller before the addition of Ginsburg completed the band's lineup, during which time he and drummer Jess Margera were performing under the name Oil with live bassist Ryan Bruni. Miller plays bass on the album, although Bruni does feature on "The Human Drive in Hi-Fi" and "Lost in a Contraption".

Despite its lack of chart success, Volume 1 features a number of the band's signature songs, including arguably their best-known track, "96 Quite Bitter Beings". Many of the songs were originally featured on skateboarding and stunt videos produced by Margera's brother Bam, including the CKY video series with which the band shares its name. "96 Quite Bitter Beings" was released as a single in 1999.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh! (遊☆戯☆王, Yū-Gi-Ō!, lit. "Game King") is a Japanese manga series about gaming written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine between September 30, 1996 and March 8, 2004. The plot follows the story of a boy named Yugi Mutou, who solves the ancient Millennium Puzzle, and awakens a gambling alter-ego within his body that solves his conflicts using various games.

Two anime adaptations were produced; one by Toei Animation, which aired from April 4, 1998 to October 10, 1998, and another produced by NAS and animated by Studio Gallop titled Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, which aired between April 2000 and September 2004. The manga series has spawned a franchise that includes multiple spinoff manga and anime series, a trading card game, and numerous video games. Most of the incarnations of the franchise involve the fictional trading card game known as Duel Monsters, where each player uses cards to "duel" each other in a mock battle of fantasy "monsters", which forms the basis for the real life Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.

M.I.A. (band)

M.I.A. was a 1980s punk rock band from Orange County, California. The band's sound was generally hardcore and thrasher, though they produced more melodic and progressive sounds in their later albums. Allmusic called the band "one of the 50 best So-Cal punk bands of the great early-'80s second wave explosion."

History

The band had its origins in Las Vegas, Nevada, where in 1980 singer Todd Sampson, bassist Mike Conley, and drummer Chris Moon were in a band called The Swell. Guitarist Nick Adams joined and the band changed their name to M.I.A. and played one show on December 31, 1980, New Year's Eve. Adams left the band two weeks later and moved to San Diego, Calif.; later that spring Moon and Conley moved to Orange County. In June 1981 Adams moved to Orange County and the three decided to re-form the band with Conley moving to vocals and bringing in another Las Vegas friend, Paul Schwartz, to play bass.

Gargoyles is an American animated television series that aired from October 24, 1994, to February 15, 1997. A total of 78 half-hour episodes of Gargoyles were produced. The first two seasons aired in The Disney Afternoon programming block, the third and final season aired in Disney's One Saturday Morning format on ABC as Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles.

Although the first two seasons were considered successful, Gargoyles did not live up to Disney's expectations as a commercial rival to Batman: The Animated Series. This result, combined with poor ratings for the third season, led Disney to cancel the series.The Goliath Chronicles aired its final episode on February 15, 1997.

The survivors of a clan of 10th-century Scottish gargoyles are brought back to life in modern-day New York City, having been frozen in stone sleep for a thousand years. With the help of police detective Elisa Maza they keep their existence a secret, while learning about the changes that have taken place in the world—and begin to figure out where they belong in it.
