The first (and only until 2012's Elementary) American television series of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes adventures aired in syndication in the fall of 1954. The 39 half-hour mostly original stories were produced by Sheldon Reynolds[1] and filmed in France by Guild Films, starring Ronald Howard (son of Leslie Howard) as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson. Archie Duncan appeared in many episodes as Inspector Lestrade (and in a few as other characters). Richard Larke, billed as Kenneth Richards, played Sgt. Wilkins in about fifteen episodes. The series' associate producer, Nicole Milinaire, was one of the first women to attain a senior production role in a television series. Sheldon Reynolds had been successful with his 1951 European-made series Foreign Intrigue[1] (in 1956 he directed a movie with the same title starring Robert Mitchum) and decided a Sherlock Holmes series made in France for the American syndication market might also be successful. Reynolds contacted the Doyle family and began his research into producing a Holmesian television series.

In the past years we have seen a number of initiatives to bring JavaScript to Internet of Things devices. The idea seems great: one language for both device, server and the web application. But IoT devices are a different beast... They have to run for years on a battery, have rock-solid security and networking stacks built in, and there needs to be a story to go from development board to production. We have seen various approaches: from running node.js on an embedded Linux box, to cross-compiling JavaScript to Lua to machine code, to ripping out motherboards out of phones. None of them with much success.
If we want JavaScript on IoT devices we need to start thinking small. IoT devices generally run on microcontrollers. Tiny computers, with processing power measured in MHz and RAM measured in kilobytes. What they lack in processing power, they make up in power consumption - they can easily run for years on a coin cell - and in peripherals, some chips have over a hundred Input/Output ports to connect sensors, actuators and radios. And from there, we need to look at a library ecosystem that is already proven on microcontrollers... Well-tested middleware, that has both security and battery consumption as top priorities.
In this presentation I‘ll talk about microcontrollers, JavaScript, and tiny beacons; and will probably play with lasers through JavaScript.

He loves doing unexpected stuff with sensors, flying drones from the browser, and breaking phones.

De bewoners in Oosterwold hebben vrijdagmiddag 10.000 bomen en planten gekregen voor de groenvoorziening in het gebied. Het groen is door de bewoners zelf besteld en wordt ook door hen geplant.
"Het zijn er een heleboel. We zijn daarom ook heel blij dat veel bewoners vandaag meehelpen met sorteren", vertelt Marie-José Deckers van Stichting Parijdijsvogelbosje Oosterwold. Het is in de Almeerse buurt de bedoeling dat de bewoners zelf zorgen voor deze faciliteiten, zonder inmenging van de gemeente.
Er komt nog veel meer groen
In totaal hebben de bewoners 29.000 bomen en planten besteld om de buurt aan te kleden, zegt Deckers. "Zwarte bessen, vlieren, noem het maar op. Ze moeten zorgen voor een mooi stuk natuur waarin ook vogels of bijen een fijne plek vinden."
Het was hard werken voor de bewoners, maar ook een goede aangelegenheid om de balans op te maken over de vorderingen van Oosterwold. "Je ziet dat veel bewoners vandaag bezig zijn om informatie uit te wisselen", vertelt Deckers. "Bijvoorbeeld waar ze wonen, hoe de bouw verloopt en tegen welke problemen ze aanlopen. Op deze manier leren we elkaar ook een stuk beter kennen".
Op dit moment zijn de bomen nog erg klein. Volgens Deckers heeft het groen wat tijd nodig. "Over twee jaar ziet het er hier heel anders uit."

Eugene Deckers
Eugene Deckers (1917–1977) was a Belgian stage actor establishing himself on the British stage, Deckers made his first English language film appearance in 1946. Formerly a romantic lead, he specialized in "continental" character roles, playing many an obsequious concierge and imperious diplomat. As he grew older, Eugene Deckers expanded his characterization range to include Germans and Italians as well as Frenchmen. Deckers appeared in Sheldon Reynolds television series Foreign Intrigue in the early-1950s. In 1954–55, Deckers played at least seven different characters in the French-filmed Sheldon Reynolds television series Sherlock Holmes. After appearing in over fifty film and television roles, Deckers made his final screen appearance in the 1969 film The Assassination Bureau.

Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes (/ˈʃɜːrlɒk ˈhoʊmz/) is a fictional character created by British author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A London-based "consulting detective" whose abilities border on the fantastic, Holmes is known for his astute logical reasoning, his ability to adopt almost any disguise, and his use of forensic science to solve difficult cases. The character first appeared in print in 1887, and was featured in four novels and 56 short stories by Conan Doyle, as well as later works by other authors. The first novel, A Study in Scarlet, appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887 and the second, The Sign of the Four, in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890. The character's popularity grew with the first series of short stories in The Strand Magazine, beginning with "A Scandal in Bohemia" in 1891; additional short-story series and two novels (published in serial form) appeared from then to 1927. The events in the stories take place from about 1880 to 1914.
All but four stories are narrated by Holmes's friend and biographer, Dr. John H. Watson. Two are narrated by Holmes himself ("The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier" and "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane"), and two others are written in the third person ("The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" and "His Last Bow"). In two stories ("The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual" and "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott"), Holmes tells Watson the story from memory, with Watson narrating the frame story. The first and fourth novels, A Study in Scarlet and The Valley of Fear, include long passages of omniscient narrative of events unknown to either Holmes or Watson.

The Case
The Case is a 2007 Chinese film directed by the female first-time director, Wang Fen. It is the first film of the Yunnan New Film Project, a planned anthology of ten films directed by female Chinese directors, all taking place in the southern province of Yunnan. It was followed by The Park, also in 2007. The film was produced by Filmblog Media with the support of the Yunnan provincial government.
The Case follows an innkeeper, played by Wu Gang, who one day comes across a black suitcase floating in the river, only to discover that it contains the body, finely dismembered and frozen.
Plot
He Dashang (Wu Gang) is a middle-aged childless innkeeper trapped in an unhappy marriage in a sleepy city in Yunnan, China. Sleepwalking through his days, everything changes when he spies a black suitcase floating down the river. Retrieving it, Dashang hopes to find his fortune in the mysterious case, only to discover its contents are dismembered human body parts. Thrown into panic, he attempts to hide the contents. Things become even more complicated when a young couple, the sultry Lily (Wang Sifei), and her mousy husband (Wang Hongwei) arrive at the inn.

Programma: Nieuws Verslaggever: Wim van Amerongen Locatie: Almere De bewoners in Oosterwold hebben vrijdagmiddag 10.000 bomen en planten gekregen voor de groenvoorziening in het gebied. Het groen is door de bewoners zelf besteld en wordt ook door hen geplant. "Het zijn er een heleboel. We zijn daarom ook heel blij dat veel bewoners vandaag meehelpen met sorteren", vertelt Marie-José Deckers van Stichting Parijdijsvogelbosje Oosterwold. Het is in de Almeerse buurt de bedoeling dat de bewoners zelf zorgen voor deze faciliteiten, zonder inmenging van de gemeente. Er komt nog veel meer groen In totaal hebben de bewoners 29.000 bomen en planten besteld om de buurt aan te kleden, zegt Deckers. "Zwarte bessen, vlieren, noem het maar op. Ze moeten zorgen voor een mooi stuk natuur waarin ook vogels of bijen een fijne plek vinden." Het was hard werken voor de bewoners, maar ook een goede aangelegenheid om de balans op te maken over de vorderingen van Oosterwold. "Je ziet dat veel bewoners vandaag bezig zijn om informatie uit te wisselen", vertelt Deckers. "Bijvoorbeeld waar ze wonen, hoe de bouw verloopt en tegen welke problemen ze aanlopen. Op deze manier leren we elkaar ook een stuk beter kennen". Op dit moment zijn de bomen nog erg klein. Volgens Deckers heeft het groen wat tijd nodig. "Over twee jaar ziet het er hier heel anders uit." -

In the past years we have seen a number of initiatives to bring JavaScript to Internet of Things devices. The idea seems great: one language for both device, server and the web application. But IoT devices are a different beast... They have to run for years on a battery, have rock-solid security and networking stacks built in, and there needs to be a story to go from development board to production. We have seen various approaches: from running node.js on an embedded Linux box, to cross-compiling JavaScript to Lua to machine code, to ripping out motherboards out of phones. None of them with much success.
If we want JavaScript on IoT devices we need to start thinking small. IoT devices generally run on microcontrollers. Tiny computers, with processing power measured in MHz and RAM measured in kilobytes. What they lack in processing power, they make up in power consumption - they can easily run for years on a coin cell - and in peripherals, some chips have over a hundred Input/Output ports to connect sensors, actuators and radios. And from there, we need to look at a library ecosystem that is already proven on microcontrollers... Well-tested middleware, that has both security and battery consumption as top priorities.
In this presentation I‘ll talk about microcontrollers, JavaScript, and tiny beacons; and will probably play with lasers through JavaScript.
Jan keeps following JSConf.Asia around. And we're glad he does! He is now working as Developer Evangelist IoT for ARM, and is always on the lookout on how to connect the web with the real world.
He loves doing unexpected stuff with sensors, flying drones from the browser, and breaking phones.
Before ARM he was a core contributor to Firefox OS, and he wrote hundreds of patches to various open source projects.
He's also a Google Developer Expert for Web technologies.

De bewoners in Oosterwold hebben vrijdagmiddag 10.000 bomen en planten gekregen voor de groenvoorziening in het gebied. Het groen is door de bewoners zelf besteld en wordt ook door hen geplant.
"Het zijn er een heleboel. We zijn daarom ook heel blij dat veel bewoners vandaag meehelpen met sorteren", vertelt Marie-José Deckers van Stichting Parijdijsvogelbosje Oosterwold. Het is in de Almeerse buurt de bedoeling dat de bewoners zelf zorgen voor deze faciliteiten, zonder inmenging van de gemeente.
Er komt nog veel meer groen
In totaal hebben de bewoners 29.000 bomen en planten besteld om de buurt aan te kleden, zegt Deckers. "Zwarte bessen, vlieren, noem het maar op. Ze moeten zorgen voor een mooi stuk natuur waarin ook vogels of bijen een fijne plek vinden."
Het was hard werken voor de bewoners, maar ook een goede aangelegenheid om de balans op te maken over de vorderingen van Oosterwold. "Je ziet dat veel bewoners vandaag bezig zijn om informatie uit te wisselen", vertelt Deckers. "Bijvoorbeeld waar ze wonen, hoe de bouw verloopt en tegen welke problemen ze aanlopen. Op deze manier leren we elkaar ook een stuk beter kennen".
Op dit moment zijn de bomen nog erg klein. Volgens Deckers heeft het groen wat tijd nodig. "Over twee jaar ziet het er hier heel anders uit."
