Steinau, Lower Saxony
Steinau in the Land of Hadeln is a municipality in the district of Cuxhaven, in Lower Saxony, Germany.
History
Steinau belongs to the Land of Hadeln, first an exclave of the younger Duchy of Saxony and after its de facto dynastic partition in 1296 of the Duchy of Saxe-Lauenburg, established de jure in 1260. In 1728 Emperor Charles VI enfeoffed the George II Augustus and his House of Hanover in personal union with the reverted fief of Saxe-Lauenburg. By a redeployment of Hanoverian territories in 1731 the Hanoverian Duchies of Bremen and Verden were conveyed the administration of the neighboured Land of Hadeln. The Kingdom of Hanover incorporated the Land of Hadeln in a real union and its territory, including Steinau, became part of the new Stade Region, established in 1823.

She married Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine in 1862, and had seven children with him: Victoria Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford-Haven, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia (1864-1918), Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine (1866-1953), Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine (1868-1937), Prince Friedrich of Hesse and by Rhine (1870-1873), Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarina of Russia (1872-1918), & Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (1874-1878). The most high profile execution saw the Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra and the Russian royal family being slaughtered in Yekaterinburg. However there were many more members of the ruling family who were executed upon the orders of Vladimir Lenin. One of those who suffered greatly was the harmless and peaceful Princess Elisabeth Of Hesse and By Rhine, who was at the time of her execution a nun who had turned her back on the royal court.
Her husband had been brutally killed by revolutionaries and Elisabeth tried her best to help the poor and needy in Moscow, but Lenin believed she was a symbol of the royalty, and he ordered her arrest. But Elisabeth was executed in brutal fashion, as she was taken to a mine shaft and was thrown down along with a number of former princes and other members of the royal family. Tragedy would never be far behind for the siblings, however, and Elizabeth and Alix/Alexandra both lost their lives in the Russian Revolution.

Inside of Russia during the Civil War and the Revolution, there were a number of horrific executions which were carried out. The most high profile execution saw the Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra and the Russian royal family being slaughtered in Yekaterinburg. However there were many more members of the ruling family who were executed upon the orders of Vladimir Lenin. One of those who suffered greatly was the harmless and peaceful Princess Elisabeth Of Hesse and By Rhine, who was at the time of her execution a nun who had turned her back on the royal court.
Her husband had been brutally killed by revolutionaries and Elisabeth tried her best to help the poor and needy in Moscow, but Lenin believed she was a symbol of the royalty, and he ordered her arrest. But Elisabeth was executed in brutal fashion, as she was taken to a mine shaft and was thrown down along with a number of former princes and other members of the royal family. Her execution was one which was needless and un-necessary, and one which was incredibly shocking.

Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine was the third child and second daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. She married Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine in 1862, and had seven children with him: Victoria Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford-Haven, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia (1864-1918), Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine (1866-1953), Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine (1868-1937), Prince Friedrich of Hesse and by Rhine (1870-1873), Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarina of Russia (1872-1918), & Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (1874-1878). Tragedy would strike the family in later 1878, when most of the family fell ill with diphtheria. Alice nursed her sick husband and children, but fell ill with the disease as well. Alice's youngest daughter died of the disease in November 1878, and Alice died of the disease less than a month later.
The death of their youngest sibling and mother had a profound effect on the surviving children. The siblings depended on each other, and were quite close. However, their various marriages separated the siblings: Victoria moved to England, Elizabeth and Alix/Alexandra moved to Russia, Irene moved to Prussia, and Ernest Louis remained in Hesse. Tragedy would never be far behind for the siblings, however, and Elizabeth and Alix/Alexandra both lost their lives in the Russian Revolution.

Die hessische SPD-Spitzenkandidatin Nancy Faeser hat nach dem Löschen eines Wahlkampfvideos ihrer Landespartei den CDU-Kontrahenten Boris Rhein aufgefordert, dennoch zum Thema AfD Stellung zu beziehen. Das Video hatte eine Zusammenarbeit von CDU und AfD als möglich dargestellt und empörte Reaktionen hervorgerufen. «Das ist nicht mein Stil. Es ist runtergenommen worden», sagte die Bundesinnenministerin am Samstag am Rande einer Wahlkampfveranstaltung in Frankfurt am Main zu dem Video. «In der Sache müssen wir allerdings darüber reden. Und es wäre schön, wenn Herr Rhein sich dazu äußert, dass führende CDU-Leute in Wetzlar sich mit der AfD getroffen haben vor Kurzem. Insofern wäre es schön, wenn er dazu etwas sagt.»
In dem knapp 90-sekündigen Video wird auf eine gemeinsame Abstimmung der CDU und AfD in Thüringen verwiesen und gefragt: «Droht eine solche Kooperation bald auch in Hessen? Wird sich Boris Rhein von Rechtsextremen Stimmen besorgen?» Eingeblendet wird auch ein Bild des umstrittenen Wetzlarer CDU-Politikers Hans-Jürgen Irmer, der als Rechtsaußen in seiner Partei gilt. Er hatte jüngst seine verbliebenen Parteiämter vorzeitig abgegeben - den Vorsitz des CDU-Kreisverbands Lahn-Dill und den Vorsitz der CDU-Kreistagsfraktion.
Der Wahlkampf-Spot kursierte am Samstag auf X, ehemals Twitter, und sorgte dort für Kritik. Auf den Seiten der SPD war er nicht mehr zu sehen. Der Generalsekretär habe das Video vom Kanal heruntergenommen, sagte Faeser am Samstag. Auf Nachfrage ergänzte sie: «Ich habe das heute entschieden.» In Hessen ist am 8. Oktober Landtagswahl.

Prince Philip lived a life of almost 100 years. He is most famously known for being the husband to the late Queen of the United Kingdom: Elizabeth II. But unlike many of the consorts we know today, Philip was a Prince in his own rights and you can find royal ancestors throughout his whole family tree. Not only is he a descendant of British Kings and Queens, he was also closely related to the Russian Tsars. In an earlier video I already covered his immediate family, meaning his parents and four sisters. So in today's video I will focus more on his grandparents and great grandparents as we explore their lives and accomplishments.
