Michael Galasso
Michael John Galasso (1949, Hammond, Louisiana - September 9, 2009, Paris) was an American composer, violinist, and music director.
Film Scores
Galasso wrote music for films, including Wong Kar-wai's "In the Mood for Love", Babak Payami's "Secret Ballot" and Turkish directors Yeşim Ustaoğlu's "Waiting for the Clouds" and Derviş Zaim's "Mud".
He won the César Award for Best Music Written for a Film in 2009 for the film Séraphine, directed by Martin Provost.
Three of his songs, "Scene I", "Scene VI", "Scene VII", appeared in the 1986 romantic comedy "My Chauffeur", starring Deborah Foreman and Sam J. Jones.
Sound Installations
Galasso made numerous sound installations, including the Giorgio Armani Retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2000 (the first sound installation in the New York Guggenheim's history) and the Guggenheim Bilbao in 2001.

Michael Galasso is an American composer and violinist based in Paris, France. A musician of classical formation, this violin virtuoso has been experimenting for 30 years with a melodic and rhythmic synthesis in which his affinities with Baroque music are entwined with his American heritage as well as with Iranian and central Asia traditions. His film scores include "In The Mood For Love," "Tango Rashevski," and "Seraphine" for which he was awarded a French Cesar for Best Original Music. He has been a collaborator of theater director Robert Wilson for more than 30 years, writing music for "A Letter For Queen Victoria" (1974), "Les Fables de La Fontaine (2004), and more recently "Quartett" starring Isabelle Huppert. Part of a concert in memory of composer Alan Lloyd (1943-1986). Michael Galasso (1949-2009) was a violinist and composer primarily of music for theatre. Much of his music is influenced by the minimalist aesthetic. Like Lloyd, he was an early collaborator of director Robert Wilson, creating music for his pieces The Life and Times of Joseph Stalin (1973), A Letter for Queen Victoria (1974), The $ Value of Man (1975) and many other productions. Several of the pieces in this live recording were released in arrangement for violin and tape on the 1983 album 'Scenes' released on ECM Records. Recorded live for France Musique in Sainte-Maxime, France on July 4th 1988. Two of the performers are Michael Galasso himself and violinist Alexander Balanescu.
